Good. So let's all start confessing that we lost games we shouldn't have and start praying for 3 more wins.

And to think that in the eyes of the believers we live our lives for nothing but sin and pleasure. I commend you and not even knowing you, I am proud of you. Good stuff.

Okay, then, it looks like I'm in.

Now that I don't have to sweat it anymore, can we start praying for 3 more victories?

I've been praying, if we do win it'll prove, God is a Jet fan.

It's good to know God is on our side. I've always liked Bob Dylan's version of that:

    With God On Our Side

Oh my name it is nothin'
    My age it means less
    The country I come from
    Is called the Midwest
I's taught and brought up there
    The laws to abide
And that land that I live in
    Has God on its side.

Oh the history books tell it
    They tell it so well
    The cavalries charged
    The Indians fell
    The cavalries charged
    The Indians died
    Oh the country was young
    With God on its side.

    Oh the Spanish-American
    War had its day
    And the Civil War too
    Was soon laid away
And the names of the heroes
    I's made to memorize
    With guns in their hands
    And God on their side.

Oh the First World War, boys
    It closed out its fate
    The reason for fighting
    I never got straight
But I learned to accept it
    Accept it with pride
For you don't count the dead
    When God's on your side.

    When the Second World War
    Came to an end
    We forgave the Germans
    And we were friends
    Though they murdered six million
    In the ovens they fried
    The Germans now too
    Have God on their side.

    I've learned to hate Russians
    All through my whole life
    If another war starts
    It's them we must fight
To hate them and fear them
    To run and to hide
    And accept it all bravely
    With God on my side.

    But now we got weapons
    Of the chemical dust
If fire them we're forced to
    Then fire them we must
    One push of the button
And a shot the world wide
    And you never ask questions
    When God's on your side.

    In a many dark hour
    I've been thinkin' about this
    That Jesus Christ
    Was betrayed by a kiss
But I can't think for you
    You'll have to decide
    Whether Judas Iscariot
    Had God on his side.

    So now as I'm leavin'
    I'm weary as Hell
    The confusion I'm feelin'
    Ain't no tongue can tell
    The words fill my head
    And fall to the floor
    If God's on our side
    He'll stop the next war.

I would tend to disagree on this point. I have yet to visit a church that advocated the literal word of the bible. It's always been taken as allegory where this fits, and literally where it fits. And I've heard both types of sermons as well, very dry/boring interpretations, and priests that do indeed attempt to bridge the gap into the modern world and discuss scripture and its relevance and meaning in todays society.

My guess is that it depends on the average age of the congregation. The most progressive Catholic churches I attended where while I was in college. The churches where it was predominately retirees tended to be more like you described.

This is a legitimate contention, and one I will admit I struggle with all the time. Again I would have to say that it's more of a indication of the times. I've talked through these issues with some priests before, and indeed many of them agree with the contention that reconciliation should be seen as a private matter between yourself and God, and they told me that in todays age I should look at confession in a Catholic sense as more of an opportunity to receive advice and counseling than absolution. Meaning the act of confessing to a priest should no longer be seen as the single method of redemption, but instead as the opportunity to openly discuss issues and problems in your life and have someone there to help you out without fear of being looked down upon or judged. But privately expressing remorse through personal prayer and truly believing it is indeed a legitimate path for absolution.

Then again, other priests do not agree with this method of thinking, which shows that even within the power structure of the Church things aren't as rigid as others would assume.

I'm done discussing this topic, it's getting close to dangerous territory now.

Especially since it's still in the Jets forum.

Say 10 intercepted Hail Marys, and praise be to Revis.

haha, I actually find praying for football victories hollow and dumb. I just can't see God really caring one way or the other, especially when you know there are equal amount of people praying the other way. I usually just pray that no one gets hurt, and even that doesn't seem to work, haha.

I just fall back on the tried and true "wishing" and "hoping", and of course, drinking and yelling  :)

agreed, this should have been moved a long time ago. And its gone well past the original point of the thread anyway.

And for the record, I love the "Revis Christ" name, always have, always will

I am a Christian as well, and don't really like the comparison. I'm just thrilled Revis is a Jet.

Meh... lazy posters... people go to the trouble of creating 15 pages of crap, the least you can do is get your hands dirty and read some of it. :)

Right, because clearly everyone who believes in God feels you can't live a good life without knowing Him. It's all just sin and pleasure for the rest of the world! At least now we know you did your theological studies at Hamburger U. What a moron.

Yeah, I'm done too. The idiocy of a couple of posters in here is getting to me. Come to think of it, that makes it just like every other thread in the Jets forum lately. Thanks to talismand and Sec 227 for being able to discuss it frankly and honestly with a bit of humor mixed in.
