Shhh, don't tell people Rhodes played well or that Rex was impressed. That could screw up all the trade scenarios. Then again, Rex was probably just trying to boost Rhodes' trade value. Or maybe "any" safety could have a game like that against the Bucs. I'm sure there's a perfectly logical excuse that can explain away any perceived success Rhodes has.
It's one game and it's taken him until week 14 to produce it. Everyone knows what he's capable of, we saw it in his first 2 years. That's why people are unhappy with the lack of production since he signed his big contract.
Oh come on man... we get it, you are in love with KR but at least be objective! His best game came against arguably the worst team in the NFL with a rookie 21 year old QB whose main problem coming out of college was accuracy. He had 1 tackle and one assisted tackle... wow... He didn't look to me any more dominating then he has (not) been all season. He had an INT and I'm very happy... but although he mad a nice athletic catch don't tell me that was a difficult INT to make. Right now he's doing his due diligence but we aren't paying him 6 mill a season to do due diligence. that's the problem with him... he isn't bad but he isn't that good either... there are so many FS that do what he does and get paid 50% or less.
I love it. There's always a way to invalidate it. And no mentions of the fact that his tweets have told a completely different story than what the media is portraying either, huh? Yes, it is late in the year for him to be finally "getting it" and I've expressed frustration with some of his performances. However, he's doing it now. It doesn't matter who it's against. Would it be better if he hadn't had a good game against the Bucs? This is why God hates Jets fans.
I bet if O.J. Simpson had Twitter he'd be crying as to who killed his wife -.-' Come on man, in what twit did he validate himself as a model professional exactly? I've seen no clue of him saying he needs to shut up and work instead of thinking he is the best. He organized a charity event and Rex participated... what so earth shaking about that!?!? If he says he wants to leave NY is -1000 points organizing a charity event that Rex attends is +5 and I think Rex is actually the one who should be getting the credits for attending. YOU on the other hand are saying he is earning his 6 mill a season because of good games against Jake "interception" Delhomme (with a broken finger as it turns out) and Freeman. Don't you think it'd be wise to wait before crowning him? He did also get paved by Lynch if you didn't notice... My god, if he intercepts future HOF Redman this week you'll spend all your time in the internet voting for him in the ProBowl I will change my mind about Rhodes the moment he learns how to fucking tackle. not tackle... fucking tackle. That will show me he finally wants to play ball.
Agents should not let their players tweet. From what I have seen so far, every tweet takes dollars off the next contract regardless of what sport the player plays.
Uh, excuse me? That straw man burns quite easily. Where did I ever say he's earned his pay for the year? My entire point was that he's starting to appear like he "gets it" and that maybe this whole situation has a second side to the story that no one who hates him wants to acknowledge. But if you want to douche out, feel free. It doesn't make you look smart though. Not at all.
its really tough to change an opinion back after two games where he's had turnovers, because all that sticks in my head is that bullshit pussy shoulder thing he did against the Bills. He has a lot of making up to do before I defend him again. If he is consistent with making plays, and I don't even need him to be a hard hitter, but I do need him to be a solid tackler... also, he has to stop acting like he's Ed Reed and play as half as good as him. there is only one Ed Reed, but I'll take the old kerry rhodes back.
Ok let me explain myself better. No one... NO ONE is saying KR sucks. The main argument has always been he isn't worth the money invested in him (read: he isn't playing up to his percieved talent). Is that because of the physical talent level? NO, It's because of his mentality in being a football player. Problem 1: (HE GETS IT vs HE DOESN'T GET IT) You are saying he is starting to get "it" because after a mediocre season he's had: an overall so-so game with 2 INTs against Delhomme (second one was a fair catch, not an INT). An under-par game vs the Bills (against Fitzpatrick, come on man!) in which he got paved by Lynch for a TD. An ok game vs the Bucs with an athletic INT (which didn't require that much play-reading ability, Freeman basically threw it long on a double coverage and KR was covering the top of the route). Aside from that he wasn't asked to do anything... During this events he reportedly: Said he didn't give a fuck wether he was going to remain a Jet or not. Said his relationship with Rex was so-so because he got benched. Had a verbal fight with DB coach Thurman because he had to share reps in training with Smith. Remembered all Jet fans that he had achieved quite some things in this league. Now let's see what arguments you, Alio, bring in to defend him: He said he didn't have a verbal fight with Thurman, it was just a heated exchange... Come on man, that's like your girlfriend saying to you she didn't cheat on you, she inadvertedly sat on a guy who happened to have his dick out of his pants. He held a charity event and Rex attended... OMG the world stopped turning around!!! There is one thing I'm willing to concede to you... It's been a while since he last bitched about the 3 Saftey rotation. I'm also conceding another thing... it's my HYPOTHESIS that Rex is saying some nice things about him to keep him motivated and that KR is only training 10% and not 100% better than he was before. Is that enough to saying he's turning it around? In my book NO! It's like saying Mike Tyson is turning it around because he didn't get arrested in the last year... maybe it's just because he didn't have the chance. My belief is that KR is still making the mistake of thinking he is a superstar and he still hasn't showed anywhere (bring evidence if I'm wrong please) ANY SIGN OF HUMILITY AND WILLINGNESS TO GET BACK TO WORK TO BECOME A BETTER FOOTBALL PALYER. No twit, no interview, no game... nothing. As long as he doesn't do that I'm not changing my mind on him.
Those are both inaccurate. He didn't get paved by Lynch, and Lynch didn't score a touchdown on the play in question. If Lynch ran him over, I wouldn't have an issue. The fact that he seemed to run away from Marshawn Lynch to avoid being paved... that's the problem. And then (and I don't think anyone has mentioned this) on the next play, Lynch's scoring play, Kerry rushes from the far side and pulls up immediately when he sees the play isn't going his way instead of pursuing the ball carrier. And he didn't have an OK game vs. the Bucs, he had a very good game. Credit where it's due.
Completely agree with you here. The difference between how I feel, and how people like Mambo want to paint me, is that I don't accept the poor play Rhodes has given us for quite some time now. However, when making arguments, it's often customary to use facts and actually know the story before you make an argument. As opposed to what someone like Mambo does, which is just spew the internet equivalent of diarrhea all over the keyboard. Rhodes has played far below his talent level. That cannot be denied, and never was by me. The arguments I've made are: 1) He's talented. Far more talented than the bullshit "4th or 5th rounder" some people would be willing to accept for him, regardless of any off-the-field garbage. 2) He's made mistakes and seems to be trying to improve himself after getting what he deserved when he was benched. 3) That just because someone like Cimini tells you he wants out of NY, or that he got into a fight with his coaches, doesn't necessarily make it true. Kerry Rhodes would need to play like Reed over the rest of the life of his current deal to make up for what he's done so far during it. Is that realistic? Of course not. Is it reasonable to expect him to play like the "real" Kerry Rhodes? Sure it is, and that should be enough for everyone. If he doesn't continue to play hard (note that I didn't say "well" because that's harder to do against the Colts or Bengals) then that's all people should ask of him, and give credit where due. You'll note though, that certain people are so dead-set on hating him that they'll even disparage his performance this week. That's what I'm arguing against.
1) He was actually a 4th rd pick ... I'm not saying I would accept a 4th for him but if they offer us a 2nd or a 3rd I would think about it deeply before saying no. The talent level at S is good in this draft and I like our 3 Safety system. Plus we'd get rid of an unjustified contract. 2) Why do you say he seems like he's understanding the mistakes he's made!?!?!? What gives you that impression!? The twit that started this thread was made December 11.. thats 5 DAYS AGO!!!! 1 Ok (or good depending on p.o.v.) game against a shitty team doesn't mean you changed your mindset!!! Look at Jamarcus Russell... he was finally having ok games at the end of last season... did his attitude get better? in 5 days things don't change 360? 3) HE HIMSELF SAID (tweeted) HE DIDN'T CARE ABOUT STAYING IN NY and HE HIMSELF ADMITTED HE HAD LOST TEMPER WITH THURMAN!!!! not CIMINI!!!! Look, I'd be really happy if Rhodes really is changing things in his football life because I'm a Jet fan and that is whats best for the team... but don't bring up conspiracy theories against him because that's just not the case!!! And before accusing someone of writing bullshit put on this site actual news in which Rhodes says he cares about the Jets, in which someone denies the fight with Thurman and in which he admits he has to work hard to reach superstar status and he hasn't already achieved it. Finally... I know he'll never be Ed Reed... what I want is that Kerry Rhodes plays up to at least 70% of his potential... and right now as of December 16 I just don't understand how you can be so sure he is going back to ding that. Please just please bring me some evidence because I want to be that optimistic too. PS And as for the game against the Bucs... Come on they didn't get a 1st down until the 3rd quarter and they were getting sooo much pressure from the DL and LB Freeman coulnd't throw anything... Rhodes didn't screw up anything I'll give you that.. but he was hardly put in a position to be decisive...
Besides the fact that you're completely wrong, I don't really have any other response for you. Now, you could go look some of this stuff up and show me the evidence that supports your arguments, but whatever, believe whatever you want.
...and from the Still Doesn't Get It Department: Not Rex Ryan, not team sources, but the douche himself...wtf?
Hopefully he keeps getting INT's now that he's back in the base package- 3 in 3 games is not bad at all-
