It would be between Williams and Norwood for me. While I think OLB is our biggest need I would lean towards Williams with this pick because a) I just think he is the better player b) I think we still can get a quality OLB prospect in the 2nd and beyond, can't really say the same about NT. Also think Williams can play DE for now and be pretty good at that position so he essentially fills two needs. One thing for sure is I wouldn't touch Dunlap. I had my fill with highly talented players that have no heart, we certainly don't need another.
Uh... I almost forgot... I know I'm going to get bashed for this... but I haven't been a Jets fan long enough to suffer through all the bad TEs we took sooo... at 18 I wouldn't mind getting Gresham. Good blocker, good red zone reciever... having him could give us flexibilty on O. We could run many double TE sets with two do-it-all TEs.. how smash mouth is that? If they stack the box we have a fast TE (Keller is very effective as a slot too) and a strong TE to exploit them... if they don't we can run straight through them with those two blocking and Edwards killing guys downfield (the kid is a good blocker). As an extra smash mouth you can take out Cotch and put T-Rich in. When we spread the offense we can put in Clowney as the really fast guy and move Keller back as the only TE. When we REALLY sell out on the pass plug in Woodhead at RB. this would also allow us to not play the FB on every snap and allow T-Rich to play one more year effectively (guy is almost 40). "He's such a main target, presence on the field and quality player that it changes," Stoops said. "It changes everything, your run-blocking along with your protection, along with him out in routes and, in particular, red zone stuff. You just have to work through it." Oh yeah, after Williams Gresham is my fav 1st rd pick. Isn't it funy how we all want D guys and we already have the #1 D in the league ?
I'm not going to bash you.....but if the Jets picked a TE in the first round.......I'd light Tanny's front lawn on fire.
At this point, I would probably take Dan Williams over anyone else. You have to take the future at NT when you get the chance and in this scenario, Williams is the best NT prospect available. Jenkins has had injury problems the past two seasons, Pouha might have been an old rookie but he is still 31 years old and is not the future of the defense. I like him as a rotational guy but this season is the only situation where I would want to see Pouha start. Plus, thanks to his DUI arrest, Dunlap might be available for day/round 2.
I'm going with Norwood. I've been following this guy all year. Posses all you want in an OLB in a 3-4 scheme. Excellent speed off the line of scrimmage - possibly the fastest first step off the ball I've seen - is more than capable in pass coverage, with fantastic lateral speed.
I would choose Dunlap i dont love hiim as a prospect but the upside is there. Mike Iupati is the best prospect available but picking a guard when we already have 2 capable ones would be a tough pill to swallow, when we have so many other needs. Sione Pouha has been playing well so idk about Dan Williams, he is intriguing though but Dunlap overall is too talented.
Our defense is good.....but it won't last long with the age of our D-Line. D-Line (DE & NT) are musts. Would be nice....CB, S and another OLB. Revis, Harris, Scott, Leonard, an old Ellis & maybe Lowery are the only true locks starting on defense in 2010. Eric Smith has impressed lately...concerns on his pass coverage still abound.
Dunlap, though I'm not as high on him as most people. Sure, he's a physical freak, but he hasn't produced at Florida, and I'd rather take my chances with a Wootton or an Odrick or Mike Neal in the 2nd.
these kind of posts, even though they are fun, are pointless. by the time the draft rolls around these players stock will either go up or go down. and there will be other players in the mix as well....
Don't you think most of us understand your point? There is a reason we have about 15 regulars on this draftboard.....we love this stuff. A few of us try to keep this board active, it's difficult in the middle of Dec. I truly believe anyone that studies the NFL draft/College players has a leg up on the average NFL fan and understands football quite well.
Wow, thank you so for your brilliant insight. You do realize that 90% of the threads in here and the Jets forum are either hypothetical questions or speculation, right? That is the reason why TGG exists in the first place, because people like talking about this stuff.
We are to a pibnt where the draft is not jsut about fixing issues with our current, but fixing issues before they become a gaping hole in our roster. The D-line is ok ATM but has serious issues due to age. Its the best way to go this draft, O-line being a close second.
Wow! I can't believe you don't think Norwood is a first rd talent?? If Norwood is available in mid/late 2nd rd it would be a shocker, unless he gets arrested or does something stupid. If Norwood was on Bama or Florida he would be right up there with McClain or Spikes.
My choice came down to Earl Thomas and Eric Norwood; I chose Thomas. We really need a Safety if Tanny moved Rhodes and Thomas is a major playmaker. He has had a really good year and I think he'll be a very good NFL Safety. Then I'd go Mike Johnson in the 2nd and BPA DE in the 3rd, hopefully one of Ogho/Wootton/Jones falls.
Whoa, whoa, whoa...I'm not going to quote any post, because there are far too many and it would take too damn long. I've actually decided to make a thread about Carlos Dunlap's fall from grace.
I'm a huge Eric Norwood supporter. Norwood was the leader of a SEC defense that gets a lot of respect...just like Spikes and McClain. I can honestly say, he's not on the same level with either of the two. His height makes him less of a prospect. There's no doubt in my mind that he'll be a successful NFL player though. Eric's motor is why he's so damn good. I'd say he's a late first, early second round guy...even after the combine.
