Not even close. Go look at their stats. As long as you don't let Sanchez start chucking the ball all over the field he's the better player.
When you guys say that Sanchez has much more potential than Henne, could you go into some more detail of why you feel that way? What about Sanchez gives him a higher ceiling?
As of right now, here is my take on the 2, and which is better at different QB traits as of today... Arm Strength - Henne Decision Making - Henne Accuracy - Draw Going through the progressions - Henne Footwork in the pocket - Sanchez Looking off the safety - Henne Ability to thread it into small windows - Henne Pump fake - Sanchez Resiliency after a mistake - Henne Coolness under pressure - Henne As of right now today, I think Henne is the better QB. He is playing with one of, if not THE worst WR corps in the league. I mean, his leading WRs are a sophomore UDFA and a rookie 4th rounder. Doesnt have a guy like Braylon, or a guy like Cotchery. Both have good OL's and running games though. Now, none of us can predict the future, so we have no clue how these kids are going to pan out. However, while Henne currently has the edge IMO in a lot of the categories... I think we both have a young talent at QB. Obviously, both will get better an improve. Who turns out to be the best down the line? Really a tough call. IMO, its going to come down to what each is surrounded with. So, lets hear your break downs. Lets get some more indepth conversation than "Henne will be better" or "Sanchez will be better". Break them down...
Sanchez started the season being 16 starts removed from starting in High School. Henne has a couple years in the system, plus a smart QB mentoring him (penny), plus scads more college exp/ Dan Henning > Schottinthefoot. Yet, while Henne has completed a higher percentage (not a lot..but higher) Sanchez has more big plays, and has competed, as a rookie on a comparable level to Henne. I would suggest that the sum total of Henne's exp. is equal to two extra years at this level for Sanchez. Given that he's the rookie and a VERY green rookie....I would say his upside is better. I will allow that the WR corps on the two teams tilts toward Sanchez...
Isnt that a big allowance though? Especially when talking about stats and how Sanchez has more big plays? What WR is supposed to make big plays down the field on our roster? The only one who has the ability to stretch the field is Ted Ginn... and he cant catch a damn ball to save his life... lol Again though, you say Sanchez's upside is better... but what do you think he will be able to do better than Henne after he gets more experience? Specifically, what will he be better at in your opinion? Also, I think you are overrating Henne's experience level somewhat. There is no doubt that Henne is a more experienced QB. I wont argue on that. But experience playing in the high school and college level is only worth so much. Playing against professional players is a whole new kind of experience. NFL starting experience is worth so much more than some starts in college against Stanford. And in that respect, they are equal. In fact, Henne has a tad less... The extra experience helps Henne, no doubt. But they are both still first year QBs. And I'd argue that your far superior WR corps is a greater advantage than Henne's extra starts in college. Our WRs dont get near as much separation and as open as yours. Our windows are smaller... and more progressions have to be made on average per play b/c his WRs struggle to get open. And if they actually do get open... hes had multiple drops by all the WRs. For a stretch, we were averaging 4-5 drops a game...
One thing I have really liked about watching Henne's development is that hes seemed to improve each an every game. Taking less sacks, putting touch on the ball, getting through his progressions, etc... getting better and better every week...
I think both have shown more than enough that they will be good QBs in this league, henne has the big edge being in year 2 vs. danchez starting day 1. I was never high on henne but I must admit he has really impressed me this year. I think the Jets and Dolphins will be battling for div titles and playoff spots for a while and those 2 will be the central figures.
Thats what I'm excited about!!! I hate you guys (no offense :wink. I fucking hate the Jets with everything in my body. I could care less about the Pats, when comparing them to you. By far, our biggest rival IMO. But our rivalry has lacked that for as long as I've been a real diehard fan (2002 when I really started following football like a maniac). The thought that we both could have franchise QBs battling it out for years to come has me really excited. So far... Henne - 2 Sanchez - 0
What do you think of the Henne-Ken O'Brien comparison? Every time I see him that's who he reminds me of.
I hadn't thought about it but I do see some similarities, both have good arms but stone feet. Hopefully they face each other 20 more times and sanchez can pull ahead.
If Henne had receivers the calibre of Edwards and Crotchery, I think he'd be infront by a decent margin....
Henne as a rookie: 2008 3 0 7 12 58.3 67 5.6 0 0 0 0 74.0 -- -- -- -- -- -- Yeah super star written all over him. Lets compare next year. Comparing a rookie QB to anyone is borderline ridiculous.
you want Schotty? You don't know how good you have it. The Fins players on offense are young and growing minus the two RBs. You can't expect your offense to carry your team. However, the Jets have tons of fucking talent on offense but our douche coordinator has no clue how to utilize it and keep drives going. He needs to be cute and disrupt rhythm and fuck everything up at least 3 times a game. He also loves to waste timeouts when 95% of the coordinators out there know what they are doing. You are spoiled.
This is pretty much Henne's rookie year? Are you really going to compare Henne's stats from last year? When he didnt play? lol We are comparing 2 first year QBs. Nothing ridiculous about it...
I hear you guys rip Schotty, but I'm telling you... Hennings a moron. His infatuation with the trick play is really disturbing. Dude out-thinks himself all the time. End arounds and Pat White plays at TERRIBLE times. 1st and goal and we are gashing the Bills on the ground... lets have Ricky throw it!!!
your offense has to be gimmicky because the youth on the team doesn't allow the Fins offense to overpower other teams. If Dan had Edwards, Cotch, the running game, and Keller, he'd do a lot of damage. Schotty doesn't know how to do damage with that. He has to rely on Cutesy playcalling because he gets off on it.
