SEATTLE -- Washington coach Steve Sarkisian says he's "very optimistic" that star quarterback Jake Locker will return to the Huskies for his senior season rather than enter the NFL draft.

Sarkisian made the remark Tuesday, one day after he met with Locker to discuss his draft prospects. Asked why he was optimistic, Sarkisian said only, "That's just the way I am."

The coach says Locker submitted a request to the NFL for evaluation of his draft status, but such a move is customary.

The deadline for players to enter the draft is Jan. 15.

----- Doubt this kid will stay after what happened to Bradford this year.

He would be crazy to stay!!!

I love Sarkisian, but he's talking out of his ass.

    Probably a top ten pick.

Never believe what a College Head Football coach says....especially about players staying and a new Head Coaching position..i.e. Brian "the lying" Kelly.

Hopefully he gets a call from Bradford telling him what's up.

You were apparently wrong on Sarkasian talking out of his ass. But when it comes to Locker being crazy, nah you're pretty spot on.

I really love Sarkisian, great offensive mind. I think he will do well in Washington. It's a tough place to recruit, hard to get California kids to go up North. It will help Washington's program with Locker staying, can't say it's going to help Jake.

Horrible football decision but you cant be mad at a guy trying to continue his education. He'll probably learn the hard way, because he was most likely going to be the #1 overall pick, atleast the first qb chosen

    That's Jimmy Clausen's spot.

I think Todd McShay had Locker as his #1 pick.....I hate McShay more than Kiper.

Jimmy C is the #1 QB prospect earmarked to the Rams.

IMO, Locker could have been a top 10 pick....maybe Washington,Buffalo or even Cleveland.

Personally i liked Locker over Clausen it had nothing to do with McShay. Locker to me is just a rare player whos ablity to run and throw effectively , will seperate him form the rest of the Qbs in the NFL but maybe he needs another year under his belt.
But i do remember seeing a McShay vs. Kiper bit on sportscenter and he was ripping into Clausen saying he was a horrible teamate and that some people at Notre Dame where happy to see him gone. That was kinda interesting if anything.

Locker seems to be the real deal.

You could argue that he is getting better mentoring to be an NFL ready QB from Sariskisan then he could by going to the NFL this year and learning on the job.

God Point. Problem is Locker is going to lose alot of money staying.

We weren't gonna draft a QB in the first round anyway. No biggie.

Well, with Jake Locker IN the draft, it would give the Jets a shot a player sliding to them in the first.
