Watching NFL Countdown this morning....apparently the honeymoon is over in New England between Belichump and Adalius Thomas. The thought from Schefter and Mort is that Thomas will not be back with the Patriots next season....Thomas publicly denounced Belichick for sending the players home from practice earlier in the week...for being late.

Anyway....this is where I'm going with this.

-Rex and Adalius have made beautiful music together when they were in Baltimore.
-I can see Adalius wanting to stick it to Belichick twice a year.
-We can keep the status quo of Thomas's in the LB corps...even if we get rid of Cactus.
-Rex will still want to bring "his guys" to this team going in to year 2 of his tenure....

In conclusion....I think Adalius would be an excellent fit for the Jets. If anybody knows how to get the best of this guy, it's Rex....Adalius was a MONSTER playmaker in Baltimore....and his transition to the Jets' defensive scheme would be seamless.

    thoughts?

Its possible, but I would not break the bank for him. Thomas will be 33 before the start of next season and appaears to be a player on the decline of late. He would be a nice short term addition but we have other areas that need more attention than linebacker.

I was just discussing his age with Jam. over AIM. That would certainly be one of the "cons" in the "pros n' cons" list.

I think if we get him on the cheap (highly unlikely...but you never know)....it would be a nice pickup. I mean...he knows how to tackle...so he's already better than Gholston.

I would hate to see him stand in the way of my man Gholston's development. He's gonna destroy people next year!

(um, before you attack, that was a joke).

This is definitley a possibility. I remember after the 2006 season everybody here including myself wanted Adalius Thomas. His numbers have not been great in New England but there not terrible either.

I think what we need on defesne is a big time pass rusher and I dont know if Thomas is that guy. But he wouldnt be a bad fallback option.

don't discount the influence Ray Lewis had on AD during his Baltimore years. He had a weekly show in the Baltimore/DC area and always mentioned that that whole LB core felt accountable to Ray, which is why they performed so well. I feel that this is paritally why he has underperformed his contract in NE. Its also partially why for all intents and purposes Bart has under-performed his contract for US (I'm not hating on BS, I wanted him too, but he just hasn't produced for the money we're paying him). Point is, I wouldn't mind AD on our team, and a dead groundhog would be an upgrade over Gholston, but only if we get him on the discount (good possibility depending on how much he respects RR and his desire to stick it to NE).

I would not hate the pick up at all. He has the tools to be a beats and has been one in the past. I belive he would become a monster in out front 7 angain for a year of two.

That said, I really want to get some yount involved in the defense as well. Teams like Pittsburgh are successful year after year because the guys they draft take time to learn the 3-4 behind solid vets before taking over. Timmons and Woodly are recent examples of this going over well for them.

We need to invest on some D-line through the draft. Picking up an aging vet like Thomas for the linbacking core makes sense in an uncapped year as long as the deal is 3 years or less.

Still he's taking time from Cactus thomas, who has been decent this year, or a young guy in the rotation. I guess one good case would be to Sign him, cut Cactus's big deal, and draft a young OLB replacement for the future.

What exactly did you expect from Bart Scott?

He is going to surpass his production of the last 2 years for the Ravens and come very near his carrer tackle total. He has helped the team transisiton to Rex's defense. He is a key cog in one of the top defenses in the NFL. He is second to Harris in tackles for us. Scott has been exactly we was expected comming in. I don't know why you think he's so vastly over paid.

I think we can get him on the cheap...nobody is going to offer a 33 year old LB who couldn't make it in NE with the chicken big bucks. Too many people think Chicken is a genious and if Thomas couldn't produce with him they'll think he's wortless.

STOP! Just stop, do we really have to make a thread about every single player that gets put on the block or gets put in the doghouse on another team? NO, NO, NO, NO!

Thomas has been HORRIBLE all season long. STOP AND NO!

People think he's not producing because he doesn't have a lot of sacks or picks but that's not his role in this defense. He does a lot of the dirty work, taking on blockers, covering backs out of the backfield, etc. More importantly, like you said he made the transition almost seamless for the players on this defense and he's a vocal leader. And it's looking like there's no cap in 2010 so who really gives a shit how much he's paid?

He fits Rex's scheme and has produced under Rex's coaching. Plus he'll have a chip on his shoulder.

    it makes sense.

it's not like we're trying trade Harris & 5 draft picks for Cutler in this thread.

i say you take a shot at adalius if hes available. rex will get the best out of him. plus anything to get the inside track on the pats is a good thing, and adalius would definitely have some valuable info on the pats for us.

If Douglas retires, I'd pick him up to play DE. I don't consider him an upgrade over Bryan Thomas.

Thomas is an OLB, and he'd be nice to have for depth
