Well, I'll give you one. You made me do a little math and I hate doing math...but anyways: Through his first 5 starts, Mark Sanchez had a QB rating of 76.26. Through his first 5 starts, Josh Freeman has a QB rating of 70.02.
WSW thanks for posting those numbers. Cool way to look at things. I think its funny to see the reaction to merely posting a statistical fact. I think Sanchez is going to be great if he keeps on working hard. I disagree with your statement that most of the time he has played well. He has been okay most of the time. I might agree with it if you added that most of the time he has played well for a rookie QB. An 86 QB rating is mediocre. Not good.
Sanchez won rookie of the week for the first 3 weeks of the season. Since then he hasn't won it. If he were to return from injury next week and close out the season with a few strong performances I think he might be able to elevate his QB rating as well as take rookie of the year.
an 86 rating is fine for a rookie QB in good games. If Eli Manning were the Jets QB in his rookie season, you'd ask for his head. He stayed in the 60's consistently
Dude, Sanchez has consistently been in the 60's. Its to be expected. Are you high? I haven't criticized Sanchez at all. He is a rookie. His QB rating is 63.7. he has 17 Ints and 11 Tds. I want him to keep playing. I think he is improving and I think he could win the ROY if he can come back from injury and play well. The fact is that in terms of QB ratings Freeman has a better rating than Sanchez right now. Hopefully the Jets Pick Freeman 5 times on Sunday.
im not knocking sanchez here, hes a rookie and all, but people are acting like we are fucked with out sanchez. Sanchez has not played very good this year, and clemens isnt THAT bad, in fact I still feel like Ive never seen clemens. If you think clemens is going to lose us the game that is ridiculous. Sanchez has looked like shit himself, to me we either win this game or we dont, regardless of the qb.
They better run the football 40 times. TB has a shitty run D, our run O is obviously good, Clemens must literally 'manage' this game. Good defense and ball control offense, like it has all season, can win us the game.
I'm Surprised at the reactions of some of you posters about Clemens starting. Is it just blind love for Sanchez or do people really think Clemens is THAT bad? I don't like Clemens very much myself, I'm a supporter of Sanchez and think he's going to have a pretty decent career here, but with him being a rookie and Clemens in his fourth year under Schotty's system I see them as essentially a wash. I think that if Ryan had named Clemens the starter from day 1 of the season until now our record and everything would be about the same. That is why I think he named Sanchez the starter, if they are about similar right now why not let the rookie play and gain experience? As for sunday I think it has potential for a bad scenerio to unfold. Tampa's pass Defense is very very bad. How bad? Trent Edwards torched them earlier this year, for example. I think Clemens is going to have a great game sunday, but I also feel that Sanchez would have a great game if he were to play. It has the potential to be very bad with Sanchez sitting unwillingly while Clemens finishes the game with something like 17-25 275yards and 2 TDs.. or even better and then people start calling for him ruining the rookie's psyche, even though he probably would have finished with something similar. I just hope Rex sees this and doesn't finish out the year with Clemens because of the good game he's going to have sunday.
Um, no. I am not only looking at QB ratings. We were discussing QB ratings and its perfectly normal to talk about QB ratings. Its a pretty good statistical measure of a QB. Its not perfect, but the best QBs tend to have the best QB ratings.
It means that they are both rookies and both have low QB ratings which is what you would expect them to have. I'm not clinging to them. My point was that if you are going to act like Josh Freeman is total garbage then its at least worthwhile to note that Freeman has a better QB rating then Mark Sanchez right now. I wouldn't think either of them are locks for the HOF at this point in their careers.
No, no it's not. It is especially misleading if you look at it in a vacuum, which you seem to be doing.
Kind of a bizarre take on things. You seem to think that if Clemens plays well and the Jets roll up the Bucs thats a bad thing. The idea is to win the game not placate Sanchez's psyche. The Jets need to win the game. Ryan's job is to prepare the team to win the game. Sanchez is not cleared medically to play. Hence Clemens is the man this week. The issue with Sanchez is his knee not his psyche. He gets injured seriously against TB and that is bad news. Potentially bad news for his career and for the Jets long term plans. If that pisses Sanchez off - GOOD. I want Sanchez to be pissed off about missing the start. Its a damned good sign. However this organization also has a history of hiding injuries - so who really knows what is going on with Sanchez's knee other than he can't practice, hence he can't play. Under such circumstances its ridiculous to start hyperventilating worrying about Sanchez's psyche. Sanchez has a 5 yr deal worth 60 MILLION and 28 MILLION guaranteed. If he needs further ego stroking I am sure that he can afford it. If Clemens goes out and plays like Joe Montana - Good for Clemens and Good for the Jets. As for what happens after that, and Sanchez's allegedly fragile psyche - its not a primary concern this week. This week the concern is beating the Tampa bay Buccaneers.
Baloney its misleading. Its pretty damned accurate. Not perfect. But pretty darn close. The best QBs in the NFL tend to have the best QB ratings. The top 10 QBs are: Brees 111.3 Farvre 108.5 Rivers 104.9 Rodgers 103.3 P.Manning 101.9 Rothlisberger 100.2 Schaub 97.2 Warner 97 Brady 96.9 Romo 96.3 You could argue that Eli or Donovan may be as good as or better than Romo. But its not misleading since Eli & Donovan are right behind Romo in QBR.
Holy shit are we really 3.5 point underdogs? Really? We still have an awesome running game. Jesus I mean if I lose it's what I get for putting my money on Kellen fucking Clemens but I might just take the points.
Every QB and analyst will tell you that these numbers mean very little on their own. Michaels and Collinsworth said as much on Sunday, Aikman has made it a point to say this every time it's brought up, and Gruden from time to time shoots it down as a statistic. You cannot look solely at the QB rating to determine how well a player is doing, just like you cannot look at any other single statistic and make a determination. Looking at QB ratings in a vacuum is highly inaccurate. Case in point:
