Kellen Clemens had one great start vs Miami 2 years ago...That game vs Baltimore wasn't horrible. However, I hope he has improved enough to make sure we're not facing a ton of 3rd and longs.

The Bucs are going to play this one hard. It's one of their only home games left, and Josh Freeman is still trying to prove he's ready.

I was talking about in practice. Haha. Just so we have a Plan B if Clemens starts to get struggle on Sunday.

I don't really trust that ranking. They are so bad at stopping the run that no one has to pass on them.

Here's Cimini's post on the topic. Didn't see it up yet - my apologies if it's a repost.

Rex: Sanchez not happy with decision ?

    By Rich Cimini

Injured QB Mark Sanchez wasn't a happy camper when informed he won't play Sunday at Tampa Bay, Rex Ryan said today.

"He's mad as a hornet at me," Ryan said. "But, again, that's good. I was mad at him, he's mad at me, so we're even."

That was a reference to Ryan's post-game ire, directed at Sanchez for diving head first instead of sliding last Thursday against the Bills. As a result, Sanchez suffered a slight tear in the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Explaining his decision, Ryan said he consulted with team doctors this morning and realized "the timetable might not be in Mark's best interest to play this Sunday."

Sanchez, who addresses the media at 4:30, won't even make the trip to Tampa. Kellen Clemens will make his first start since the final game of the 2007 seasons, and Erik Ainge will be the primary backup.

Ryan's decision came as a surprise because, on Monday, he said he was optimistic that Sanchez would be able to play in a protective brace. What happened between then and now?

"The more information I got from our doctors this morning, I just think that we'd be taking an unnecessary risk," Ryan said.

Ryan claimed the injury isn't worse than he announced last Friday. He said Sanchez is "progressing nicely" in his rehab, but Ryan didn't want to expose him.

Good call by the coach. As I wrote in today's Daily News, this had to be Ryan's call. It just didn't make sense to put their young franchise quarterback in harm's way. Orthopedists told me yesterday it was a "low-risk issue" to play Sanchez Sunday, but low risk is not no risk.

It became apparent late this morning at practice that Sanchez wouldn't play. He didn't practice at all, and Clemens took the first-team snaps.

    * * *

Ryan bristled when asked the daily Kerry Rhodes question. Although it appears that Rhodes has regained his starting job, Ryan refused to come out and say it.

"Go ahead and name him the starter, if you want. I don't care," Ryan said. "...We should be more concerned with the team than the individual. The guy who runs out there, he's starting. If Kerry feels better about him, I'll start him. If he'll feel better about it, go ahead, run out there, you're starting. Take Marques Douglas with you. I don't care. We're going to play. All our guys play, okay?"

Long snaps...But when someone is literally handing the ball in your hand, how can you eff it up being a QB? It reminded me of the 05 season when we started off with 7 or 8 fumbles in the season opener.

    Fuck, fuck, fuck!

First regular season Jets game I get to watch, and I have to watch this disaster of a QB. I hope Clemens proves me wrong, but that performance last week was most of the inept performances I've ever seen. I don't care if you're coming off the bench cold, a veteran shouldn't be THAT inept.

*sigh* I was looking forward to seeing Sanchez this week. I just hope to god not to see that 4th quarter offense from last week. Please, please, please...

and he won't be the reason the Jets win the game either. It'll be pick 6s and the running game.

But these fellators of backup QBs won't use facts, they'll just think because he called 'hike' he pulled a Manning and won the game.

Teams get an early jump on them and then they don't have to pass. They just pound their way to victory. Thats why the Rush D gets worse and worse by the minute.

We screwed up every pathetic rushing Ds this yr. Tampa will be added on the list just as A. Bryant will be added on Revis's victim list.

    Exactly.

Kellen Winslow scares me a little. Our linebackers have proven that they can't cover very well - Winslow could do some damage over the middle. However, if we pressure Freeman, he'll make a lot of mistakes.

I was always against Josh Freeman as a quarterback prospect. He's got a hell of an arm, but he's stupid with the football.

What about killing the plays when u clearly have extra two or three seconds to make a play? What about botched snaps?

Yeah I guess you're right. I just saw their ranking and that they had quite a few INTs. But them and Joakland are tied for the least passing attempts against.

Winslow is the ONLY viable option Freeman will have. I hope we use a lot of hybrid LB in Eric. He can cover better than our LBs. If winslow blocks, Eric should drop back and become and 3rd safety and completely shutting down the passing game.

Some things about that vid from 3 years ago:

    Fuck Justin McCareins.

It was a nice image seeing Vilma on the sidelines. I miss him.

Seeing McNair on the BAL sidelines seemed kinda surreal too. When we all watched that game, none of you would have thought that in 3 short years, he would be dead, and would die under the circumstances that it happened. Life is funny. RIP Air McNair.

And on Clemens, he was pretty much shit for the first 3 quarters. He looked VERY good on those last 2-3 drives, and I remember that he started playing really well in that game when we went all out straight no-huddle. Anyone think this has any significance?

Clemens has a great throwing motion and release point, and can scramble a bit, but last Thursday, his footwork looked gay as fuck. He's gotta iron those kinks out. I've always thought that Clemens has had some potential, and I want him to do good out there (Mark is our man, though). I hope Clemens plays well and we're able to get something for him.

If he plays well and gets genuine interest, we could let him walk as an RFA and get something in return, and we could also franchise and trade, a la the Pats with Cassell. It wasn't too long ago that Matt Schaub had a 298 yard, 3 TD performance for the Falcons against the Pats, subbing in for Mike Vick. The Falcons later traded Schaub that offseason to the Texans for 2 second round picks in addition to swapping 1st rounders.

I'm not saying getting this type of haul for Clemens is probable at all, but getting anything, at the least, would be good for us in this year's stacked draft.

lol ..you guys don't think Kellen will get beat out by two rookies in the same season? He's been in the league how long? If J. Freeman makes Kellen look like he's the rookie...

I know Willie....I said they occurred in less than 5 seconds...my point really was that the oline was moving backwards faster than a rubber band...it wasn't all on Clemens.

I hear ya on the clumsy thing.....I expect that was mostly nerves. I wouldn't expect to see that this week...but we'll see I guess.

I agree with all that Clemens scares me. Are we going to judge his ability to lead this team over a 1-10 team, based on 2 passed he made last week. One a throw away and the other too gain a valuable first down. The guy holds an important spot on our roster and I have to believe he can go out and get the job done.
Stop jumping off the bridge, the guy has been a round a bit and will be fine this weekend.
