i think this is a statement game for clemens. if sucks against this tampa defense he should just be cut and ainge should be our backup.
Thank you, I also have been a fan for 40 yrs and I will never trash anybody on the roster. Also I was at the Baltimore game in person and I thought his playing was just fine. Hold up on all the hate on this guy. We will be just fine. Allentown Ernie.
Again, good post. KC just doesn't know whats happening in the pocket. He holds on to the ball way too long and that results in sacks and of course, the tripping over a 'cordless' phone(WTF???). He's a great guy. I hope he can play like that too and light up fire in NY. I just don't see it happening.
Here's what the Star-Ledger is reporting as of 2:20PM today: http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/12/kellen_clemens_will_replace_ma.html Breaking News, Must-See Sports Stories ? Kellen Clemens will replace Mark Sanchez this week as NY Jets quarterback By Dave Hutchinson/The Star Ledger December 09, 2009, 2:21PM Kellen Clemens will be the NY Jets' starting quarterback Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kellen Clemens will start at quarterback for the playoff-hopeful New York Jets, coach Rex Ryan announced Wednesday. Rookie Mark Sanchez, who has started the first 12 games for the Jets this season, suffered a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during last Thursday's victory in Toronto against the Buffalo Bills. Ryan had been encouraged by Sanchez's progress earlier this week, but the Jets' first-round draft pick (No. 5 overall) was held out of practice Monday and Wednesday. He said Sanchez wasn't scheduled to practice today anyway because his brace won't arrive until tomorrow. "(Sanchez) is a little upset, but I think it's in the best interest of him and our football team that we make this decision and do it now,'' said Ryan. ``I don't think the time is right for him to play this week. The more information I got from our doctors this morning, I just think we'd be taking an unnecessary risk. If it was up to Mark, he would play, without question. "Could (Sanchez) get through the game, it's a bunch of what ifs. ... He's mad as a hornet at me. But again, that's good. I was mad at him (for sliding). He's mad at me. So we're even.'' Ryan, who could also be using the opportunity to teach Sanchez a lesson about not sliding because he figures the Jets could beat the Bucs without him, insists the injury isn't more than a sprained PCL. Even so, he sounded as though Sanchez would be at risk if he played. Also, Ryan swears that the fact the Jets are playing the lowly Bucs (1-11) had nothing to do with the decision. "Our opponent had absolutely nothing to do with the decision,'' said Ryan. In fact, this football team is playing a lot better than their record. They put up 500 yards (total offense) almost last week (vs. the Panthers). I watched them against Atlanta, they had six sacks and 10 tackles for losses.'' Nonetheless, if the Jets can't beat the Bucs with Clemens, they don't deserve to go to the playoffs. Ryan said he wanted to make the decision now so Clemens could work with the first-team all week. "I have a lot of confidence in Kellen Clemens and I think that instead of delaying this decision, I'm just going to make it now,'' said Ryan, adding that the offense won't change much. ``(Clemens) has got a great grasp of the system. The fact he'll have all week preparing I think is going to be a big help. The temp was outstanding today. We actually never threw an incompletion today in our team period. It was pretty impressive.'' Clemens, a fourth-year pro, is 3-5 as a starter. He hasn't started since the final game of the 2007 season, a 13-10 victory over the Chiefs.
I really wouldn't call this a "statement game" for Clemens....because the Bucs are horrible. It's really no better than Brady Quinn lighting up the Lions a few weeks ago. If Clemens went out, played well and managed the game...culminating in a win......against a team like the Vikes, Pats, Colts or Chargers....then I would say he'd be making a "statement".
Same here. Thats why I used pure stats. He played well in two games and terrible in two games (very similar to Sanchez and Stafford). Jets D will eat him up without a doubt - Best passing D in the NFL.
i dont wanna hear it, I have to watch him live. after all the shit talking ive taken for being a jets fan down here, I'm actually worried about this game now lol. our defense better play lights out. then again they do have the 31st rushing defense. GROUND AND POUND! LOL!
i think he is too, but at the same time hes shown no progression I was on the Clemens bandwaggon until we drafted Sanchez. It's just when he drops back he looks lost or like hes afraid to take chances. then he ends up scrambling for 0 yds or throwing it away.
That's good news. It's good that Rex has the stones to make the decision early and make sure the right QB is prepared. TB might be awful, but they have a formidable pass defense.
hahaha....i'm sure our Defense and run game will hold their own....giving us a chance to win. But I don't trust Clemens to not screw it up.....
We were gonna run on them anyways, regardless of Macho Man. Lets just hope KC doesn't fuck up snaps, thats all he'd be asked to do. Maybe we can have Weatherford do KCs job? Atleast Weatherford won't be tripping over himself.
