Win out, let the rest of the shit work itself out.

That's pretty much it. I know there's been a lot of threads about what we "need" to happen; lots of crazy wildcard scenarios. With 9-7 possibly being viable record for wildcard spots, the Jets need to focus on themselves one game at a time. With a top three defense, and a decent running game, we're in a much better position than other teams who are in the wildcard race. Sure, our schedule is tougher, but nothing worth having is easy. For the record, I'd like to play both Cincy, and Indy with their starters. If we can't beat them, there's no way we're taking either of those teams down in the playoffs.

December is a time when the contenders seperate themselves from the pretenders.

I understand what you're saying about Indy and Cincy, but I'd rather play them without their starters. Maybe someone else can take them out in the playoffs...and a win is better than a loss regardless.

Thanks, I thought so too. Just trying to bring some level-headedness to the panic threads being created around here.

I think we're gonna' have another 2002 situation on our hands. Remember the game winning FG in the Miami game that created pandemonium in the Meadowlands, when the Jets just found out they were playing for the playoffs. That was great!

so everyone on this site is just going to stop talking about how to make the playoffs? isnt that sort of the point of being a fan and posting on these boards?

To start off let me state that I am one of the people who loves following and rooting against the other wildcard/division contenders.

I find it really interesting to be able to root for/against a number of different teams on Sundays. Of course, I am always going to root for the Jets to win first because if we don't it really kills my interests in the other games. However, why not root for Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Jaxonville, Denver, and others to lose so we have a better chance at a playoff spot. I take my fandom as serious as anyone but there are people on here who put up this facade that it is "wrong" to ever root for any team other than the Jets. I believe that these people think that they are bigger fans because they will never root for any other team no matter the circumstances. However, it doesn't.

The main goal of the season is to win the Super Bowl and I think everyone on here would agree with that. (Although I wouldn't be surprised if some people tried to think up an argument to disagree) In order to win the Super Bowl you have to first make the playoffs. This year, making the playoffs is going to require teams ahead of us/tied with us losing as well as two good teams at the end of the season resting starters.

That brings me to the argument people make about wanting to beat the best teams while they are playing the best players. I don't quite understand this either. In order to make the playoffs we will realistically have to beat both the the Colts and the Bengals. These are two teams, especially the Colts, who have proven that they are better than us this year. The chances of us beating both, (again especially the Colts on the road) while they are playing their starters is small. This brings me back to our main goal, winning the Super Bowl. When the playoffs start anything can happen. Look at what the Cardinals did last year in the playoffs after we put up 56 (or so?) up on them in the middle of the season. Once the playoffs start anything can happen and this has been proven countless times. However, first we have to make the playoffs and we should be hoping we can do this any way possible whether that be backing in with a 9-7 record or winning out and playing teams without their starters.

I can't recall any team in recent history that limped into the playoffs and won it all. This league is all about getting hot in late December. All about it.

BTW, we can beat the Colts with their starters in.

I never said we couldn't beat the Colts without their starters in. However, wouldn't you rather play against Jim Sorgi than Peyton Manning? We could play the best game of our season against a Peyton Manning led Colts team and still lose but that probably wouldn't happen with Jim Sorgi.

Also, I understand you want to enter the playoffs playing well. However, if we manage to win 6 in a row (including the last 2) against any competition we will be hot. Why not make that competition easier?

    1. You aren't "more" of a Jets fan if you only root for the Jets, no matter the circumstance. Rex Ryan and some of the Jets players admitted to rooting for other teams this past weekend, including Oakland.

    2. People need to stop getting pissed off when fans discuss playoff scenarios. It is what makes them fans, and this is a message board for fans to act like fans with other fans. We're all on the same team.

    3. I honestly believe we can win against the colts and bengals with their starters in, as neither team blows out teams, and they have to face our #1 pass defense....good luck. Anyways, you take every advantage you can get, and that includes if teams want to sit their starters. "Limping in"?.....no, a 6 game win streak against professional teams whether starters or second/third string, should not be regarded as limping in. Finally, if we do beat the Colts and Bengals with their starters....it usually makes it tougher to beat them again in the playoffs. Just my two cents.

Win em all and let the nfl sort em out! I am stoked about the last four games. Hope the Jets can play well during that time. You are right to be the best you have to beat the best. If the our beloved Jets cannot beat teams like indy and cinnci at full strength then they have no business being a playoff team. GO! JETS!

That Jaguars loss looms so damn large. Worst loss of the season, even worse than Buffalo and the Miami special teams debacle.

But is it possible to get hot in late December and still limp into the playoffs?

If we get Leon on there we would definitely be limping into the playoffs.

just for the record I could care less if they have starters in or not---a win is a win no matter who they have on the field-------if we actually do make the playoffs we can play whoever we face and I am sure ALL THE STARTERS WILL BE IN THE LINEUP FOR THAT

Simple logic, if you want to win the Super Bowl, you need to make the playoffs. Whether we play other team's starters or the Colts hold a promotional contest and the winning fan gets to play left tackle, it doesn't matter. As a Jets fan you can get picky with your wins and I'll take 'em any way I can get 'em.
