Yes, you're right. Unfortunately the way the system is, fans of football start hoping for matchups favorable for making a case for a playoff system rather than matchups that are entertaining.

Guys...we all know that the New Mexico Bowl is the best bowl this season.

    Fresno State vs. Wyoming.

I'm so fucking pumped for this...(not really)

I bet the top 5 in the Big east would take the top 5 in the ACC.

Miami, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina

Cincinnati, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, and UCONN.

    I'd take the ACC.

Yeah, I might be a little ACC biased, but c'mon. I'll take the ACC any day in those matchups.

I don't know. Cinci would blast Miami, or any other ACC team. WVU and Clemson are about even, though the Mountaineers are less apt to completely brain-shit like Clemson does. Pitt would beat GT because their defense isn't stupid, and Tech's rush D (hello Dion Lewis) isn't nearly as good as their rush O. Rutgers would get beat up, but UConn should have beaten UNC the first time around this year.

I wouldn't say Cinci would blast Miami, as Miami can score (it would be a barn-burner, no defensive showcase here) but I think that Cincy on their best day would probably beat any ACC team.

As for Pitt's defense, I've got 45 points from Cincy that says Pitt's defense is as apt to choke as GTs. I'll surrender that over the course of the season, GT's defense has been more suspect, but if Pitt can lose to NC State, and give up 38 in the process, I have no doubt that GT could put a dent on the scoreboard. Then by order of association, if you say Clemson is about even with W. VA, and GT beat Clemson twice this year, and W. Va beat Pitt, well, that's as close as we can come to how these two would match up. Note, I'm not swearing that GT would win, but it's not the sure win for Pitt that you make it sound like. I lean GT in this case, but I'll leave it at a toss up.

You say UConn should have beat UNC, I say that UNC was playing like garbage at the beginning of the year. Uconn has definitely improved over the course of the season, but so has UNC , beating Virginia Tech _at_ Virginia Tech, then beating Miami at home before laying a 4th quarter egg to NC State (who beat Pitt, as I stated before).

So Lets try out some scenarios:

    I think Cincy beats anyone
I think W. VA beats UNC, Loses to GT/MIA/VT, ?? Clem
I think Rutgers loses to all 5
I think Uconn loses to all 5
I think Pitt beats UNC, then ??? verse GT/MIA/VT/Clem

So I see 7 for sure Big East wins, 13 for sure ACC wins, then 5 tossups. Overall thats a win for the ACC top 5 over Big East top 5 this year. Even if I tossed Pitt over Clem in there, its still overwhelmingly ACC. What say you?

I think it's because you're an RU and Big East fan. I believe TCU is more deserving of a shot, not that playing Florida is a big deal at this point.

The non-major conferences had their opportunity taken away. Now, it doesn't really matter what happens in TCU-Boise State, as far as the big picture goes.

It also sucks out a lot of the intrigue. I would be very interested in watching to see if TCU or Boise could knock off a power. Watching them play each other? Not so much.

I say that seems overly complicated.

But about Pittsburgh-GT, the first thing I have to say is doing anything by association is flat out malarkey. I get what the thinking is, but CFB is more about matchups and motivation on certain days than anything. Second, Pitt gave up 45 to Cinci, but how much of that was Tony Pike and Mardy Gilyard? Even the NCSU game was Russell Wilson heavy. GT's rushing attack won't have it quite so easy against WanStache's defense.

well, if we're being fair, talking "pretend matchups" is pretty much malarkey as well, and you're right, its all motivation and execution.

All I'll say is there's been plenty of tough defenses the last two years that have crumbled under Johnson's special brand of triple option.

Really, only LSU really held them down in last year's chick-fil-a bowl, and I think that was more about zero motivation from GT after finishing their "superbowl" last year, beating Georgia finally after a 7 year drought.

I'd be more worried about your offense scoring on us than us getting points on the board ("I" being me, not me speaking for you).
