They're being officially announced now, but they of course were leaked hours ago. I won't post the matchups in case anyone doesn't want it spoiled.
now they're being announced, so I'll post them. Rose Bowl: Oregon-Ohio State Fiesta Bowl: TCU-Boise State (I hate that they're making the non-majors play each other) Orange Bowl: Iowa vs. Georgia Tech Sugar Bowl: Florida vs. Cincinnati BCS Championship: Alabama-Texas
Boise vs TCU in Fiesta Bowl dissapointed its not against a non auto bid vs an auto bid, but still I think this will be a great game
Now the non-majors can't make a "statement", which is what the BCS wanted to avoid. TCU could beat any of the BCS teams, IMO. Not that they would, but they're certainly capable. Even given that they were screwed out of a chance at the title, at least give them a shot at Florida or Iowa or Cincinnati.
agreed, this was BCS collusion to put the 2 BCS busters together so they wouldn't have a chance to shit on the big boys... I'll be honest, I wanted Iowa so cause I didn't want to face TCU... Nice that we'll see two games of undefeated teams, but would have been better to see them play the big boys
This is exactly what the BCS wanted. This is complete bullshit. Everyone in the country that knows college football wanted to see non-AQ teams like Boise and TCU take down national powerhouses. Fuck the BCS.
So if the title game is a 6-3 snoozer in favor of Texas (due to crap play by both teams, not awesome defenses) and TCU blows out Boise, you think the AP would go rouge and crown TCU?
This destroys whatever credibility the BCS had left. How dare they fuck these kids at Boise State over?
I hate that they're using the excuse of wanting a matchup of unbeatens. If that's the case, why not at least take Cincinnati?
I like the matchups, but to be fair maybe have TCU or Boise St. go against Florida and the other unbeaten play Cincy? Probably fairer. However, both are good games. EDIT: What Jam said.
That fiesta bowl is BS. I still consider Cincy a non BCS team even though they pay in the Weak Big East.
Am I the only one that's not pissed about the way the BCS shook out? Look, I understand the gripes that Boise and TCU would have not getting their chance to take out a major conference team, but at the same time you have to think about the positives these matchups have. First, I think that of the three undefeateds, the team MOST deserving of a shot at taking out Florida is Cincinnati. They've played the best collection of teams, won a conference that doesn't allow for very many weeks off, and possess a compelling story. Do I think TCU or Boise could beat Florida? Sure. But I think what Cincinnati could prove beating the Gators may be even more important, because rather than legitimizing a school, they can do it for an entire conference. Maybe I'm just being a selfish Big East fan, but I'm kind of sick of the Big Least label, especially when I believe that Cinci is better than any team that the Pac Ten, ACC, Big 10, or maybe even Big 12 had to offer this year. Secondly, as a fan I'm excited for the sheer amount of intrigue in these games. Bama-UT has it's obvious draw, but I'm honestly even more excited for Cinci-UF, and even MORE excited for what should be a barnburner in TCU-Boise. I think that once the initial level of pissed-offedness clears, people will realize there's some darn good football on the way.
Yes, I agree that there is real draw for the games that are scheduled for pure interest in good college football. However, the way the current system is, more and more people are simply hoping for matchups that may eventually lead to the implementation of a playoff system. If TCU or Boise beat Florida, it would make an unignorable case for a college playoff system, and that is what people are angry about. It's obvious the BCS didn't want that to happen. However, you are correct. There is some damn good football coming up
There has been countless "unignorable cases" for creating a playoff system. The people in charge could really care less to be totally honest with you. Last year, Utah over Bama, in '06 Boise over OU, in '04 Utah over Pitt, we've seen it enough. Why not use this year to give the fans something different? Plus, I'm tired of hearing the same complaining about getting a playoff system on ESPN, and using these teams as shining examples of how unfair everything is. To be honest, I hope that the big conference schools keep avoiding them, because that just means more undefeated seasons, and more big time BCS money going to these schools. The top conferences start losing enough money and they'll start changing their minds.
