The Jets traded the 37th overall pick (second rounder) to the Bears for the 63rd overall pick (second rounder) and Thomas Jones. Hell of a trade.
I'm 100% for trading Rhodes. That would be great value for him. Although I'd probably try to take Nate Allen with the later 2nd or 3rd. I just like him a lot more than Stuckey.
I would be very happy if this draft worked out the way it did, but that is mostly because half of your picks are taking players who will not be where you have slotted them. I love the Cameron Heyward pick, I think he is the best 3-4 DE prospect in this draft if he declares and he'd be a starter from Day 1. Hopefully no one will stereotype against OSU defenders and realize Vernon has been a failed experiment because of his inability to transition from a 4-3 DE to a 3-4 OLB and not because of his college pedigree. Iupati would make for a great addition to the offensive line, but I think OT is a more pressing need than OG at this point and there will be a good OT on the board, maybe Trent Williams (I expect him to fall and play RT in the NFL which is by far his best fit) or Jason Fox depending on how the draft falls. A good guard can be had later like Ole Miss' John Jerry, Arkansas' Mitch Petrus, or Illinois' Jon Asamoah. Boo Robinson is a fine NT prospect but he's much more of a space eater and much less of a play maker, which is also fine for a 3-4 NT. I like Phil Taylor more as a later round prospect for this very reason, but there is the possibility that he stays at Baylor for his senior year. Not a big Stuckey fan, but there will be a ton of good safeties in this range in the draft so this is a good thought. 4-6 is where I think it gets a little too good. I just don't see how Jordan Shipley will fall to the 4th round especially with the emergence of the importance of a slot WR in the NFL. The same applies for Jerome Murphy, he's rated as a 3rd round pick and if he runs in the 4.3s which is likely he will probably cement his stock there. And he's tall which is becoming evermore important at the CB position with big WR's becoming all the rage in the NFL. I also doubt Dexter Davis lasts until the end of the 5th round, scouts won't overlook his two double-digit sack seasons for his junior and sophomore seasons. Of these 3 he is the one who has the best chance of falling since he is a 'tweener DE/OLB at 6'2 and he doesn't have great speed. Drafting a top punter is certainly not a bad idea. I guess I'm a little bitter because I know if I proposed this exact mock the responses would be that the trades were unrealistic and stupid, but it just goes to show how people can totally alter their views because of prejudices. On the trades note, I don't think we can get a 3rd and a 4th for Kerry Rhodes. Will Witherspoon was traded for a 5th round pick and a scrub rookie WR (Brandon Gibson), and while Witherspoon is older he has been the more effective player on the field. Kris Jenkins was traded for a 3rd and 5th round pick. Kerry Rhodes for a 3rd and a 4th? Don't see it happening unless we lie to Al Davis and say Kerry Rhodes can now run a 4.12 40. Nice job overall.
1. Phil Taylor is your new Lee Robinson. Also, he's a space eater, but not a playmaker? What the hell are you talking about? Do you expect a nose tackle to get double digit sacks? 2. Why don't you like Darrell Stuckey? He's a heck of a safety. I agree that 2010's draft will be loaded at the position, but grabbing a versatile safety like Stuckey in the third round would be very good value. 3. Will Witherspoon is more effective than Kerry Rhodes? Really? Rhodes has sucked this season, but he was an All-Pro in 2006. Spoon is a good linebacker, especially his first couple seasons with the Rams. I think safeties have more value than linebackers in this league. I could see Rhodes being shipped out for a 3rd and a 5th or 6th. 4. You're bitter? Prejudices? Wow. No one on this board alters their view when you post...your posts just suck. Every one of your Madden mock off-seasons last year was completely unrealistic and over the top. Also, you are an Atlanta Falcons' fan, so everything you say about the Jets is completely useless. You can reply with your usual: "...you force feed" and "...you're immature" - the last time you did that, I shut you up...I'll be happy to do it again.
As Mr.E pointed out it was aswap of picks. It ammount to a third round value on the point chart to go from 37 to 63.
Oh come on now, you know you want to move down 7 spots in the first round for Ben Hearsock! Thats totally a fair trade for the Jets and the Falcons....
Ben Hartsock has such great value. I love all of his holding penalties. You know what I JUST realized and it makes perfect sense: The_GM was trying to rip off the Jets with that trade. He came to TGG and posed as a Jets' fan, but REALLY, he was just hoping Mike Tannenbaum reads the draft forum for ideas. Tanny would see his incredibly realistic mocks and pull the trigger. The_GM wanted us to trade for Ben Hartsock so the Falcons could get rid of his sorry ass. Back to real life... Benny Hartsock was cut by Atlanta, so he obviously had no value at all.
Oh my god do the Jets need Iupati to take over for Faneca. Please tell me he can pass block adequately.
I really think Heyward is a strong possibility. There is a good chance we may draft Heyward in Mid Round 1 come April. Heyward is equally strong vs. Pass rush/Run. His late Father was a heck of a football player. I believe OT and G are both needed. Iupati would be a better value at the top of rd 2 than Trent Williams. Faneca's tread on his tires is running thin. Faneca is terrible in pass protection. Iupati would be a strenght of the O-Line and is a very good pulling guard. Boo is a much better prospect than Taylor. What is the reason you don't like Stuckey?? Stuckey has decent speed, good size and makes plays. Stuckey isn't afraid to make a big hit, unlike Rhodes. Stuckey is also a fine punt returner. GM....A little advice, if you don't want to listen..that's fine. I don't think people on this board are prejudice. I know you and MR E. have had a running feud, I've tried to stay out of it. Mr E. and I don't always agree on certain players and issues....but I'm certain we both respect each other's opinions. I totally respect E's opinions, he always backs his thoughts and ideas with credible facts. Respect has to be earned. I do agree with some of your POV's and you do have some good insights. I think the dual Falcons/Jets messageboard is a sore point and it puts you in a negative light. Sometimes...it's not what you say, it's how you say it. Don't try to come off as a know-it-all. I believe, I have as much knowledge of the draft as anyone on this site, I but don't try to act like a know-it-all. I appreciate your comments on my Mock!!
Yeah, Rhodes proved tonight that he's still a giant vag. Great mock, WW. If Cody's out of our reaches in the first, that top 3 would be excellent. Faneca had a pretty good night tonight but overall he's been pretty terrible this season; I feel like he has less tread left on the tires than Woody and Iupati provides great value in the top of the second. Heyward and Boo are our D-Line of the future and with Ellis, Douglas, and DeVito all having good years, we could have a pretty formidable rotation next year. I love the Stuckey pick, too. Hell, the only thing I can really criticize at this point is the realism of the mock. I'm not even going to touch on that though because this is of course just all in good fun.
At this point I would say it is a possibilty of course but not quite the slam dunk that everyone seems to think it is. I don't think DE is our biggest need right now either. I think it is far more important to get a guy that can rotate with Jenks and eventually take over. A pass rushing OLB(biggest need) and safety are bigger IMO as well. Great job as usual WW85! I don't think the Rhodes trade is very realistic right now and I would prefer to take a pass rushing OLB earlier but I can't complain if this is how the draft plays out. Would love to trade down to late first and pick up more picks. Heyward may be the best 3-4 end in the draft, Iupati is the best G in the draft and would love to get Shipley in the 4th(think he might go earlier though)
Thanks Moby!!! Stuckey isn't getting enough credit on this board. He is everything the Jets are looking for, in other words the opposite of Rhodes. Stuckey would pair well with Leonhard. Leonard while decent in coverage, is more of an in your face, crowd the line run support safety. Stuckey has shown to have very good coverage skills and lays the wood. The Eric Berry talk is pie in the sky. The Jets need to address the DL in RD 1.... Cody, Heyward or Dunlap (if he gets his act together & trade down). Joe Haden would be a nice choice, but if the Jets finish 8-8/9-7 there is no chance Haden will be available. I'd rather draft Iupati than a second tier OT. The first guard off the board usually falls in the area 2nd rate OT's get drafted. Shipley is about my 10th or 11th rated WR. IMO, best case scenario....mid Rd 3 to mid/late Rd 4. There are some question marks about Shipley.....needs to bulk up a little, average speed, and Texas' offense isn't a tyipcal NFL offense. Shipley will be a #3 WR in the NFL and you can't invest rd1/2 money in a #3. I expect Shipley to be good WR, don't expect him to be the next Wes Welker.
Its possible, but lets face it, Our D looks damn good right now with Pouha and DeVito getting tons of time. DE is on the radar, but so are a lot of other things. OG and OT because Woody and Faneca are not getting any younger. NT and DE due to Jenkins injury history and a lack of young DE talent/depth. CB and Safty Do we keep Shepard and/or Rhodes? So is WR, a big playmaker if we do not retain Edwards. We have several ways we could go and some interesting depth at the positions we need on the DL should be in the draft this year.
I don't know if you can call Jordan Shipley's speed average. Ship has some wheels...he's a heck of a return man and that could boost his stock a little too. I think speed is Shipley's best attribute. He's been clocked at 4.37, but I think he'll more than likely run in a the 4.4s or the 4.5s at the combine - Jordan Shipley has game speed though and that's more important to me than a 40 time. He's definitely has to get bigger and he's dealt with injuries - hamstring and ACL problems.
I've been on the fence for awhile and have always been in the camp that I'd rather get better quality players with few draft picks like the Jets have been doing rather than trading down for quantity. My defense has always been you can fill out depth with lesser known free agents and they'd be just as good as mid-late rounders. However, with the uncapped year looming and the general belief that many players now will be restricted free agents rather then unrestricted, I think accumulating as many picks as possible is the right move. If you can get an impact defensive lineman in the first round I'd be pissed if they traded down, however with the depth of this draft and the circumstances surrounding the league I think this is the way to go.
