Did you re-read this to see how utterly ridiculous it is? I'll agree with you on the tackling, but everything else is just...well, I don't have an inoffensive term for it...
What's so ridicolous about it (apart from the "everybody tackle Rhodes" which was a joke)? 1) I said he has potential 2) I said he doesn't have the right mentality 3) I pointed out the 2 INTs were against the most intercepted QB in the league 4) I underlined the fact he can't tackle for shit. 5) I said he isn't producing enough for the money he is/will be making and that MAYBE he doesn't fit Rex's D (more the mentality than the schemes) that well. 6) I said I would be OK with trading him for a fair value In hwat way is this ridiculous?
Honestly, I thought the tackling thing was serious, so it soured the rest of your post to me. Beyond that though, you said he has a lot of potential but will never be great. He was pretty damned good in the past. He's gotten lazy and ridden past success lately, but that doesn't mean he's unable to be great. Also, this trade talk is ridiculous. A second and a sixth? Teams would jump on that trade. I think everyone needs to take a step back and see what he does the rest of the season. He claims he learned his lesson. At least give him the opportunity to show whether he actually did or not. ------------------- As for his antics, the guy was happy. He showed he can still play. He was punished like a child then responded big. I wouldn't have just thrown the ball into the stands, I'd have done a Lambeau Leap and drank a beer with the fans in his position.
You must admit it would be a fun thing to see though... I mean, after Jenkins tackles Rhodes his modeling career is over ! Not unable, it's just it pisses me off so much when guys with that much potential lay back and start thinking about their lives after football at 27. In professional sports you can have all the physical tools yo want but without the proper mindset you will only get that good. To be dominant you need to develop a certain type of mentality that Rhodes doesn't have right now. Is there a possibilty he develops it? Sure, and I'm here rooting for him to do that. But if I had to put money on it right now I wouldn't (and I'm looking at last year + this year). I don't care about the antics... I'm a big Ocho Cinco fan so that tells you how much I enjoy a proper celebration . But every time I hear him talk or every time I see him make a tackle I just don't see the fire in his eyes that I see in guys like Revis, Leonhard and even Smith (which I don't think is as good as Rhodes just to be clear). Having said that I think if any coach can help him become a dominant S that's Rex Ryan so let's see how he does from here 'till the ned of the season. If he gets back to 2007 form I'll be truly happy for him and for the Jets. PS As far as trade value goes I think everyone on TGG has a different opinion... many fans before yesterdays game were willing to part ways with him for a 3rd rounder . I think a 2 + a low round (5,6 or 7) would be fair for his contract numbers (BIG) and for what he has shown overall (not just flashes of talent) in his career. But then again I'm no GM so it's just an opinion...
lol the guy who said have everyone tackle him including lineman at full speed then goes on to talk about trade potential. Makes sense to physically harm him to keep that trade potential up.
OMG do you guys know the term "sarcasm" around here meeeh I don't know... Sure, we know how good he can be but we also now how bad he can be when he looses focus. Again, I'm not saying we HAVE to trade him... but let's at least evaluate what other teams have to offer for him.
We are not going to get a 2nd round pick for Kerry Rhodes. We would be lucky to get a 3rd and even that sounds unlikely. It has been a long time since this guy was good and now he has an attitude problem and isn't exactly focused on football. Teams don't beat down the door for that type of player.
I read a report that Edwards told Mangini to his face "you don't know what you are doing." I think that prompted Mangini to make some calls to people asking them to get this cancer off his team. The Jets understood this guy can help Sanchez and the running game, which he has, and made the trade. I could go into how since Edwards got here Sanchez hasn't been playing like he was in september because Schotty started calling games like he had Dan Fouts behind center and it took away from his progress, but that's a whole new thread with a lot of disagreements.
Bottom line is keep eric smith starting because kerry rhodes cannot tackle those two ints were bush league and a blind guy with no hands could of got those.
Rhodes is all but gone...interesting stuff today from Cimini Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2009/12/hitting-the-rhodes.html#ixzz0YdCSpfN0
haha...very true. I say we trade this turd to Oakland....Al Davis would probably give us a first and second rounder.
I agree and think that would be the case. If he hits all the requirements which he probably would trying to impress his new coach. At this point I'd take that in a minute, with this draft class being so deep.
Oh man, I'm not looking forward to when Rhodes gets traded and gets his revenge game against us. He'll be prancing around all week in practice just so he can be in top prancing form on Sunday. That's going to be a real prance-fest. We just need to stay focused and hope to prance step for step with him.
Hopefully Rhodes gets it together and plays like we know he can. What's the sense in trading him for a draft pick? What are the chances the pick turns out to be a player as good as Rhodes? We already know we have a good player, it's the coaches' job to get the most out of him, that's what they're trying to do. So far so good.
this draft is really deep at safety and the 3-4 front 7 positions. He was a 4th round pick, so who's to say there isn't another pretty boy in the 4th waiting for us to select him?
