"The NFL is toying with the idea of expanding its schedule from 16 games to 18 games ? which could mean some huge changes for TV.

Among the changes under discussion are playing games on Thursdays and Saturdays for the entire season ? not just at the end of the season, and playing at least eight games a year outside the US.

Cramming 32 more games a year into TV schedules will be a challenge ? as will deciding whether to cut the pre-game schedule by two or expand the season by two weeks."

Talk about bitch slapping the NCAA right in their face. Scheduling is perfect the way it is as a 16 game schedule why screw it up by adding to more conference games.

Haha...toying with the idea for the last 10 years. Of course it will change from the 16 games they play now. The owners want it, the players want it. It's just a matter of time.

The owners want it but the players don't. It's a follish, greedy idea that will shorten the careers of players.

Agreed. we are already seeing the effects of the long season. The NFL is missing top end players all over the place this year. Bgi ben is out, so is Kurt Warner. Many top end lesser known players are gone for the season. Two more games befor the playoffs will only make this worse from year to year. 16 may be pushing it as is.

I totally agree with 18 as long as they take 2 preseason games out.

Then they should expand the roster from 53 to AT LEAST 55.

Also, to convince the players, they should up the cap a bit (after all teams make more money with the 2 extra reg season games).

I don't agree with more overseas games (and I AM overseas)... games in front of the home crowd have a reason... playing on a neutral field is just an excuse to make money and it isn't sport anymore.

I think they should keep it the way it is. Knock off one or two preseason games though.

As a season ticket holder who is forced to buy meaningless pre-season games, I would love this.

Plus it's more REAL football to watch, why wouldn't you want it? I may be biased as the NFL and more specifically is the only team I'm a die-hard maniac fan.

Baseball is boring as hell, and College football is eh.

It would be good for a fan but in the long run it could hurt us, players careers are already short enough for most people, it'll take 2 years off of everyone's career just to make the NFL more money. It only takes 16 games to determine who is playoff worthy anyway.

Im on the fence about the idea only because, it adds more injuries to the game.. plus will they expand the roster maximum because you know all those players arent going to last the entire season. I know there banged up after a regular season of 16 games now add 2 more and for you to win coming out of the wild card spot you would have to play 22 games to win the superbowl. Thats alot!!! I mean I love football and I would watch either way.

Also you need 4 preseason games to first get your starters reps and also you need those last 2 to pick and decide on players you want to add to your team. 2 games wont cut it...

    What about extending the playoffs?

I'm not sure how it would work, logistically, but one more playoff game would be a good reason to field a competitive team: one more game equals one more paycheck for owners.

And at the same time, the league has all of a sudden gotten serious about cognitive brain injuries? Yahhhh right.

Season is already way too long as it is. You're going to be watching cripples playing in the Super Bowl after a few seasons of this.

I think the whole point is you don't need them. The last pre-seaon game is a joke anymore, and they charge full price for it--in our case for parking, too. The fans shouldn't be out all that money so coaches can decide which guys will be running down the field on kickoffs, they have all summer for that. In this economy they're trying to figure out why games and tickets don't sell, it's time to get away from that scam. Or call it what it is and stop charging money for it.

Why not just knock off 2 preseason games for 2 regular season games? However, doing this would make it much easier for players to break records and shorten their careers, so I can see why they don't want to do it.

The only way to extend the playoffs is this:

Eliminate 1st round bye and expand to 8 teams.

I wouldn't like that, it would be like the NBA, it should be harder to make the playoffs then going 8-8.
