Sanchez says tweaked knee is ready to go

    Posted: December 1st, 2009 | NFL.com Staff | Tags: Buffalo Bills, Mark

Sanchez, New York Jets, NFL Network Thursday Night Football, Rex Ryan

The Jets and Bills are facing a short week of practice this week as they prepare for Thursday night?s matchup ? on NFL Network ? in Toronto.

We know that rookie QB Mark Sanchez, despite what?s being described as a ?tweaked? knee, will start against the Bills. And after Tuesday, we know that Sanchez also knows the fine art of sliding. And, in all likelyhood, we should know that Sanchez is a different quarterback than the one who completed just 10 of 29 passes for 119 yards and five interceptions in the 16-13 loss to the Bills in Week 6.

?You can?t buy experience,? Jets coach Rex Ryan said about Sanchez. ?He went through that and I think he is a better quarterback now than he was then. You play this game long enough, bad things are going to happen to you, unfortunately.

?I think he?s growing in the fact that he understands what we want from him. Don?t force the issue. If it?s not there, then find something else to do with the football. Check it down. Throw the incompletion. Run with it. Take a sack. Anything is better than forcing the ball in particular times and I know he learned from that.?

The latest on Sanchez?s list of new experiences is playing on a short week against an opponent who has already seen him this season, an experience he describes as ?learning this whole thing on the fly.? We?ll see how that plays out.

We don?t know much about his knee injury, but he has been taking part in full practices, wearing a brace on the knee.

?I felt good at practice,? Sanchez said. ?Full participation. Took every rep, so I?ll be ready to play on Thursday.?

Sanchez will never lead Jets to SB!

The superbowl winning quarterbacks for the last decade have all been 6'5" or taller. Those championship QB's can actually SEE over the D-line. Sanchez at 'maybe' 6'2" has to throw over the D-line therefore his ball stays in the air longer. Not being able to see and not being able to throw on a straight or slightly downward line is a recipe for disaster.
There is a definate reason why Peyton at 6'6"(1 ring), Eli at 6'5"(1 ring),
Roethesberger at 6'6"(2 rings), Brady at 6'5"(3 rings), are the champions of the recent past and the future as far as we can see. Why? Because those named Championship QB's can "actually see" the entire football field, they have great arms, quick releases, move well within the pocket, and are as tall as any of the D-linemen or linebackers!
How many QB's under 6'5" have won a SB in the last 10 years...ZERO!!
Let's not build a team on an exception. All Jets fans have seen that 'at best' Sanchez may someday, maybe, become a good QB, but never a championship QB. What a waste of money for the highest paid Jet ever; unbelievable!

On the other hand we have a championship-caliber QB on the roster.
Erik Ainge was one of the QB's Parcells was talking about, when he said that
"he would always start a 4 year college starter at a big program, in a tough conference, anytime he had one." He knew those kids were tough winners!
Chad Henne was a 4 year starter at Michigan.
Erik Ainge was a 4 year starter at Tennessee. He also led the VOLS to two SEC-East titles. The same coach that taught Peyton and Eli how to Quarterback in college, David Cutcliff...also taught Erik Ainge how to quarterback...Maybe the most important thing Cut taught the three of them was how & why to get rid of the football and not take sacks. He also gave them passing offenses that led to high completion %. Ainge broke P. Manning's record with a 67% completion rate and broke his total number of completions in a season. All that and 'he only took 3 sacks' in 535 pass attempts. That's amazing, not his O-line or receivers, the fact that Ainge completed so many passes, led his team to their 2nd SEC-East title and threw so many TD's with so few sacks and picks.

It was in the SEC where E. Ainge , E. Manning and P. Manning all played and where the Jet's Ainge pulled these great seasons off. The Jet's have a 4 year SEC starter and a champion. They DO NOT have to play a 'one year wonder' at USC. God, look what happened to Tennessee when Ainge left. They have had two bad seasons in a row without him.
Do any of us wonder why the Champion Pete Carroll said "Sanchez was not ready for the NFL?" We now know what he knew, he's an emotional, high maintenence wreck. My goodness, the vets on the team must be so PO'd to watch this rookie QB just give THREE GAMES AWAY, ALL BY HIMSELF!
WITH AINGE STARTING ALL SEASON, the Jets would have made the playoffs this season for sure. Look at his Preseason stats and his comeback victories. 4 TD's, no picks, two comebacks wins and that's all the organization gave him...No wonder it's been 40 years plus since this team has won a superbowl...
    Un-flippin' believable!
    Anyway, Go Celtics...

The dwarf-like Drew Brees looked pretty good Monday nite.

But I do like Ainge. I wonder what the Jets coaches think of his abilities?

You just added an extra inch to every single one of those QBs.

So then I added an inch to Sanchez too; he's actually only 6'1".

Well if Peyton is 6'5", and Eli is 6'4", & Big Big is only 6'5", and Mr. Brady is only 6'4", the bottom line is Mark Sanchez is 'at least' 2-3 inches shorter than all of the most recent SB winning QB's.. 2009 6'5" Big Ben, 2008 Eli is 6'4", 2007 Peyton is 6'5", Big Ben won another and Mr Brady won three since 2001.

Mark Sanchez isn't in the same league as any of those Championship QB's though, hell, he only played 16 games in college. Heck, he couldn't beat out another college QB? Don't give me the JD Booty excuse...Booty is a much better QB than Sanchez...How could the Jet's get so duped again?

Play the 6'5" Ainge who was a 4 year starter in the SEC...
Unlike MS, Ainge is the real deal...Again, how could the Jets get it so wrong again?

And in regards to Mr Brees, "the ring is the only thing"
1.)Show me one SB ring by a shrimpy NFL QB, 2.)then show me a trend to shorter QB's winning SB's and I'll be quiet. But, with the evolution of the NFL, all players are getting bigger, taller, stronger and faster...Shorter QB's is most definately the exception, not the rule to win SB's in the 21st century!

Welcome to the 21st century men...Bigger, taller, smarter and more athletic Quarterbacks...Drew is the ONE exception and still has ZERO RINGS! Teams that play for the exception most often fail. Maybe that's why the Jets haven't been close to a SB championship in 40 years. They keep drafting and trading the wrong guys. Gholston? Sanchez? OMG people...

well according to the scout staff, they gave ainge a 3rd round grade a couple years ago... so getting him in the 5th, would be considered a steal by those standards...

So before Tony Dungy and Mike Tomlin, were you saying that black coaches couldn't win a Superbowl?

Sanchez's real problem is that he's a minority.

I don't even know why I'm arguing this when you clearly must be a troll. Young, Montana, Favre, Warner - all 6'2". Has a QB over 6'5" ever even won a SB? And fwiw, players haven't gotten much taller, just bigger and faster.

I was talking about the RECENT winners! Not the guys who can't walk anymore!
Montana, Farve won in the 'old-school days' of the 20th Century, I'm talking about the trend in the 21st Century! You know, ALL THE MODERN Super bowl Winners had TALL QB's!!!
    "2009-6'5 QB, 2008-6'4" QB, 2007-6'5" QB, 2006-6'5" QB, 2005 6'4" QB, 2004-6'4" QB,
    2003-6'4" QB, 2002-6'4" QB, 2001-6'4" QB...

Now that is more than a flippin trend, Wake Up People to the 21st Century.
If a small QB 6'2" or less wins a Superbowl now it would be an anomoly. That is what the Jets are gambling on; "MS the exception"...No wonder it's been 40 years since any Jet has won a Ring!!
    PLAY AINGE NOW...

    QB's that made it recently-

    Kurt is 6'2
    Rex Grossman is 6'1
    McNabb is 6'2
    Delhomme is 6'2
    Gannon is 6'3

So I think the height this is basically irrelevant it just so happens that taller QB's have won, but the difference between 6'2 and 6'4 is not that big a deal.

He also added an inch to every player he mentioned and then tried to take an inch off of Sanchez's height. The guy is a troll.

A very short troll too apparently.

Yeah Mark is 6'2, and with cleats on maybe 6'3-4, lol.
