"S Kerry Rhodes, demoted last week in favor of Eric Smith, said his relationship with Ryan is "real good" and said he had "to do one more thing with him and I'll be back in my regular old spot." He declined to reveal what that one thing is." Well... is anyone else extremely curious?
Yes, that's a big reason why I posed this in it's own thread instead of a Revis one. Maybe Rex wants to get into modeling.
In all seriousness to the "one more thing" thing: Strip sack. Remember Kerry's break-out season? It looked like he was going to be a strip sack artist. I believe he had five sacks, four of them forced fumbles? That's what I need to see out of Kerry, a sack-turnover. I can forgive what he does with ball carriers in the open field if he proves that he's a complete playmaking safety in the passing game.
That one more thing is for Kerry to stop prancing around the field like a girl and laying big time hits on players, I hope
I still don't see all the hooplah about Asomugha... don't get me wrong I know he's a phenomenal DB but just last week I saw him get blazed for 50+ and 20 yard gains in the same drive
Does anyone think that Revis has a shot for defensive player of the year? Is he even in the discussion? He definitely is the best player on our team, the best corner in the league, and has been just ridiculously good this year arguably deserving of it, but I agree with Rex that a player from a flashier team will probably win it. Look at James Harrison winning it last year. He was damn good of course, but best? I don't know...
Elvis Dumervil is currently leading the league with 14.0 Sacks. Jarius Byrd and Darren Sharper are tied for the league lead with 8 picks. I'd like to think that Revis has a shot but typically, it's the players with the flashier stats that get the DPOY. Shutting down receivers does not get you the titles in this league. Revis' play mostly impacts the WR while the above mentioned more directly impact the QB. If playing like Revis does got you this title, Ty Law, Asomugha, and Bailey would have both gotten one by now.
If Darren Sharper doesn't win defensive player of the year I will be shocked. The guy has a ton of interceptions and is closing in on the interception return yards record. Also, it's hard to discount Jared Allen and what he has done for the Vikings. It really depends on how you look at the defensive player of the year. If you are looking at the guy who had the biggest impact on his team you might have to give it to Revis because he allows us to play defenses that a lot of teams can't play. However, it's going to go to the guy with the stats on the good team and I can't really argue with that.
Yeah I get what you're saying. Personally I'd like Revis to win it and I think he deserves to be in the conversation, but realistically I think Jared Allen should win it. Sure Dumerville has more sacks and Sharper has the flashy interceptions, but Jared Allen totally changes that entire team. If you watch the Vikings play, Jared Allen fires that team up and totally takes over games. He's amazing to watch and is IMO the best DE in the game by FAR. If Jared Allen keeps his play up and he doesn't win it, I'd be shocked.
PAlease, he has more than half of his sacks against GB and their terrible o-line ... and hes playing with not one, but two of the best dt's in the league. he doesnt see nearly the number of double teams that other elite rushers see and hes only dominating against one team plus his sack celebration is lame
I'll bet he gets votes and ends up third or fourth in voting. That of course unless he doubles his INT totals from here on out. Likely would need another pick 6 or two as well.
Looking for more proof that Revis is the NFL's best? Go to profootballfocus.com and click on the link rating all NFL CBs. The spreadsheet is incredibly comprehensive. I would post the link, but I cannot since I haven't posted enough messages on this site in the past. If someone that has been posting frequently can post the link for everyone, that would be great. This spreadsheet rates EVERYTHING (including penalties). Revis has the best rating by a fairly significant margin. Furthermore, these stats do not include the Panthers game where he held S. Smith to one catch for 5 yds. Incidentally, according to the spreadsheet, he has been targeted by opposing QBs 65 times thus far and only 43.1% of passes thrown into his coverage are completed. He has only given up 108 YAC the ENTIRE season. Furthermore, he has only missed 3 tackles while making 31. His coverage rating? 14.8. Next closest? Jabarri Greer (NO) at 10.1 followed by D. Rogers-Cromartie at 8.5
