Brandon Spikes isn't a immediate need. I don't see a (OLB) Sapp as a big need, especially in Rd 1. Sapp is rebounding from a torn ACL. I rate Hughes and Norwood higher and would grab either in Rd 2 if still available. DT (Cody), DE (3-4), CB (Haden only) & WR.......would be my Rd 1 targets.
B-Spikes is pretty versatile - he's shown that he can get after the quarterback and cover well. He's not an immediate need, but he's the best linebacker in this draft. Bama's Rolando McClain might give him a run for his money though. Spikes and McClain both benefit from playing behind the two best defensive linemen in college football - Terrence Cody and Carlos Dunlap. People can bitch about how these guys take plays off all the time, but even with streaky motors, Cody and Dunlap are the best run-stopping anchors in the game. Harris and Scott have shown that they suck in pass coverage. Spikes is actually very, very good against the pass.
Today's results with a Jet's win doesn't look like we will drop too far....my guess maybe to 14/15. Miami and Houston losing could vault them ahead of the Jets by percentage points, not good for drafting Cody. Tenn & San Fran won with a 4-6 record too. Atlanta winning helped the Jets. Baltimore is an important game tonight. The Jets getting into the Top 10 is less likely. There is about a 2 game difference to break into the Top 10.
Top 10 could still happen if the Jets get killed in the final three games this year. I still think they'll finish with 7-8 wins, and it'll be up to the Fins whether or not they'll have the same record, then it comes to tiebreakers.
I posted this in another thread, but it belongs here as well: If our Jets end up with a middle of the first draft pick, it's okay - this draft is loaded. It's highly unlikely that we'll end up with Berry, Suh, or Cody. There will be so much talent available...even if we trade back in the first.
Dan Williams could be a possibility, he's no Cody but could be a decent addition. Also defensive players later in rd 1...Norwood, Hardy & Von Miller are 3 I'd consider on defense. Offensive side of the ball.....Sanchez's friend D Williams, Dez Bryant or Iupati.
I brought up drafting Tennessee's Dan Williams a couple days ago. He is the second best nose tackle in the draft. I really think he'll become a mid-to-late first round prospect before April. If it comes down to a receiver and an offensive lineman, I'd love to see the Jets draft Mike Iupati. He's one of the beastliest guards I've seen in quite some time.
Something important is that the higher up the draft you pick, the more guaranteed money you are putting up and the more chance you take of a holdout happening. That is why people shoulden't get too upset over having a early 20's or high teens pick. I also have a problem with the entire draft tiebreaking system on how a team like Miami would pick ahead of us considering they beat us twice this year. They are the better team right now as shown by their 2 wins, why should they pick before us. Stupid flaw in the system that needs to be fixed.
Early in the season, Idaho was running all over everyone. Mike Iupati was a huge part of that success. He's one of the better pull guards in the nation. Also, I'm a big fan of Samoan players.
The WAC leads the nation in Samoan players, even not counting Hawaii. Samoan Football players seem to be stronger than strong.
We should REALLY do that... assuming we pick around pick 10-15 the only players that interest us in that position should be Cody and Haden... all the other positions of need (DE,NT,OT, maybe CB, maybe S, maybe WR, maybe OLB) are very deep and can be addressed with a low 1st rd pick. As for Iupati, I don't think we go G this year... unless we cut Faneca. It's more likely we go RT because we have no one besides our starters. I think next year will be the last for some veterans on our team (Faneca, Woody, Ellis, Richardson, TJ, hopefully not but maybe Jenkins) so they will try to get players to complement them... then in the 2011 draft they'll get players to take their place. Only exception is Woody because Hunter isn't a backup T but an all-round OL... very useful but if a T goes down we are screwed. PS looking at our line play I'm much more concerned about our OL poor pass protection than our DL push. I hope we draft a 3-4 DE just because of how much talent is available at the position in this draft... but Ellis, Douglas, DeVito and Pouha (when lined up at DE and not NT) have been more than adequate. Always room to get better though... but I don't think we are as bad as I thought we would've been without Jenkins.
You bastards. I was trying to put the finishing touches on a JETS mock draft w/Dan Wiliams included. You guys beat me to the punch. Now its gonna look like I'm trying to steal thunder.
NFL Draft Order for RD 1 is updated for the end of week 12. Kind of strange the past 2 weeks. The Jets lost last week to the Pats and moved from 12 to 13. The win this week moves them up from 13 to 12. It's all based on other teams winning pct and SOS. Here are the rules of determing the draft order: • The team with the lowest winning percentage at the end of the previous season drafts first in the NFL Draft. • The rest of the teams are placed in order from lowest winning percentage to the highest. • The Super Bowl winner drafts last, even if they do not have the highest winning percentage. • The Super Bowl loser drafts next to last. • Strength of schedule for the previous season is the first tie-breaker for teams with the same winning percentage. • Divisional and conference records are the next step in the tie-breaking procedure. • As a last resort, a coin toss is used to determine the order of selection for teams with the same winning percentage. • If a playoff and non-playoff team end the season with the same winning percentage, the non-playoff team selects before the playoff team regardless of strength of schedule.
NFL Draft Order for RD 1 is updated for the end of week 13. (Post #1) Jets move from 12 to 16. Players like Joe Haden, Terrence Cody, Cameron Heyward, & even *Dunlap may be out of reach. There are a few teams ahead of us that would take these players before the Jets. * I've heard some strong rumors from a friend in California (Niner's fan & Draft Guru) that Al Davis loves Carlos Dunlap. Al Davis still may go for Taylor Mays. BTW, my friend said don't be surpised that the 49ers look at Cody in rd 1 with one of their 2 picks. He projects an OT as a lock and maybe MT Cody in Rd 1. I'm not too sure about the 49ers drafting Cody...Denver needs a NT in the worst way.
