Kerry Rhodes is a liability at that position. His hit on Delhomme at the end of the game almost knocked him back. Eric Smith made tackles all day and showed he can play football, not just play catch.
the bigger question is how many minutes before Rhodes posts his first tweet? Usually he doesn't tweet until Thursday after a loss. i'm expecting him to tweet tonight and say how the doubters doubted him and how he is elite.
Eric Smith's Tackling Ability Was anyone else really impressed with Smith's tackling ability in this game? He had 8 solo tackles (leading the team) and he hit HARD. I don't remember him having such impactful tackles last year, and the most remarkable thing is that he didn't allow Carolina's big backs fall forward over him. When he hit Stewart or Williams, he stood them straight up and didn't allow them to get any extra yardage. A very good surprise and something really good to take from this game.
I ripped this guy for his coverage problems the last two seasons but one thing he has always done is hit like a truck. This scheme is working for him, he is good playing close to the line of scrimmage in the 46. He's really thrived in RR's defense.
Just saw Rhodes comment to the media. Douche!! I can't wait til you get what you want and that's out of New York.
Rex also seems to have a lot of schemes that require 3 safeties to be on the field, so odds are we will see a lot of both of them. Who starts? Who cares?
Smith was playing his ass off today. Rhodes was playing his ass off today. Rhodes is a better athlete and a longer tenured veteran. He'll probably start next week unless his effort shits out in practice.
Rhodes is a better player then Eric Smith. But there is no arguing his poor play this season. Hopefully the benching woke him up. His first pick was pretty big as the Jets went on to score on that drive. They both played well today. The whole secondary played well. Leonhard had some nice plays and Revis of course did his thing. Sheppard and even Drew Coleman made some nice plays as well.
Having Smith in just on first down and short yardage is a big difference maker. It worked out well especially against a run first team with a pass protecting line problem.
The defense on 1st and 2nd down is definetely better with Smith then Rhodes. Kerry Rhodes as usual made an ass of himself in the post game interview.
I don't have the exact words but something along the lines of "I'm not gonna say nothing else but this, I got the message, kerry rhodes is back, that's all" Blah Blah, make a tackle you dickhead.
He made some bland comments about getting the message from his benching. Said something like, "Kerry Rhodes is back," and then refused to say anything else. He's still steamed about the benching and it's obvious that he really didn't want to talk to the media outlets that just got done bashing him last week. Edit: Rhodes: "The message has been sent from Coach to me. I got the message, I'm moving on." That was the quote.
