2010 AFC free-agent preview by PFW staff - Nov. 25, 2009 > http://www.profootballweekly.com/2009/11/25/2010-afc-free-agent-preview
Only possible if we're cutting Gholston, I don't think we could have that much money tied up into one position.
next year will be uncapped. if we nose dive and the new stadium is not sold out, wood y may go on a shopping spree
I guess I wasn't exactly thinking straight, but still, we have to think about the future, and signing a heap of one years deals won't be good in the long term.
i wouldn't mind picking jason furguson up from the dolphins. gives us d line depth for jenkins and it allows him to retire a jet.
If only one year ends up being uncapped a shopping spree will kill us in the long term. While it may be a good a good time to unload a bonus heavy contract (Ghoslton?) or keep an aging player for one more year (Jones?) its a bad idea to sign several guys to long term deals. We really need to concentrate on getting our own markee players wrapped up. Mangold, Brick, Washington, and Harris will all be some type of FA before long and need taken care of.
I would like Ryan Clark and Turd Ferguson, there is a few guards that would look good and maybe Bannan, but he will command more than his worth. I would cut Faneca, pains me to give up but Gholston, trade Rhodes for picks, as many as we can even late rounders deep draft and we need more picks
...and replace him with? Cutting an O-lineman wuith no replacement lined up is not a good Idea. Faneca is a big part of why we have such a good run game. He has never been a great pass blocker. He is pretty much as advertised comming into NY.
I am not saying instant cut, but find a replacement first, I think he is earning too much money at this point and its an oppurtunity with no penalty, I think there is better and younger guys out there at this point. If he stays fine, but if ther else someone there who would fit than grab him. Having a young QB, pass blocking is very important so thats another reason to look elsewhere
It depends how they write the contracts. If they sign, or even restructure, existing contracts, and put all the guaranteed money up front, in the form of 2010 salary. All the usual prorated bonus money will fall on next year, and not effect future cap years.
YEs, and those are the exact contracts taht also cause players to hold out because they are "underpaid" even though they already have the money. It may workout, but it could be problematic. I still want us to focus on our own players first.
How much ya think we can get outa Jenkins,,,, maybe the time to look is now, it's one of the anchors of Rex's D......
i think Jenks can be had for a 2nd and 4th. I'd like to do that to have more 2010 picks. Then this team can really stock up on all the talent in this draft.
I heartily agree, I mean the guy has/had talent, but with his size/history, he is always one play/game away from injury, and with an ACL, I don't know how he comes back from that, really, We need OUTSTANDING talent at NT, (draft) Safety at the very least to make Rex's D work .......
If next year is uncapped, I want to see Gholston's locker empty. I would prefer a veteran like Karlos Dansby over him. In fact, I think we should make a push for Dansby this offseason. In addition to a pass rusher, I would like to see someone like Jason Ferguson, Casey Hampton, or Ryan Pickett backing up Jenkins. And a veteran QB instead of Clemens.
