Unless Braylon Edwards goes back to fundamentals on how to catch a football 101 and rebuilds from the ground up. My opinion is we dump him while we can maybe send him somewhere for some draft picks or maybe package a deal. I think Miles Austin and Brandon Marshall are looking pretty good right now for people who didn't have faith in them. I think Miles Austin would of been a perfect fit due to the fact that nobody knew who he was and he has a lot to prove. But thus far he has backed up his Number 1 receiver talk. Brandon Marshall is another receiver when he is under pressure performs and can catch a ball in traffic without being afraid of getting hit by a DB who is way smaller then him. Anyhow next season is a good year to dump contracts we don't require and I think Braylon will just be apart of our woes.. Plus During the draft if we could draft this kid Jordan Shipley out of Texas. Hands down the kid can play and is hard to cover and is constantly on the move and runs excellent routes plus the hands speak for themselves. I don't know if Austin or Marshall will be on the block for a trade due to the fact that they are having productive seasons but its worth a shot....
Austin is going to get locked up long term by the Cowboys. He's the only Viable receiving threat on that team. Marshall should be getting the same treatment from Denver. He may try to talk his way out again, but I doubt that will happen.
actually i would like to see us pick up a solid slot reciever to dump off to. But I do agree that we should pick up Dline first
We can't trade Edwards; this is the last year of his contract and the Jets aren't going to let him walk after trading 2 draft picks for him. Besides, our draft is looking pretty thin as it is. Giving up any more high rounders would kill us.
Did you see Marshall and McDaniels thursday? B-Marsh isn't going anywhere. And personally I'm fine with Braylon. Give him and Sanchez OTA'S and training camp to build even more of a rapport.
Have I missed all these drops by Braylon? he's had couple like ALL WRs but he's been good and he gives us a really nice starting duo and Sanchez a huge target. It would be a huge mistake to let Edwards go UNLESS he wants to be paid like a top 5 WR. As far as Austin goes, we had a chance for a 2nd rd pick to sign him this year. I don't think that opportunity will present itself this year and it was a great move for him going back to Dallas as I don't think he would have had the impact here that he is having in Dallas.
I would say yes. I've seen him drop a couple 3rd down passes that hit him in the hands. He also seems to take some routes off when its not his number is not called. He has all the physical skills in the world to be a top end receiver and seems to not care at all about becoming great, but is happy with good. He and Carrie Rhodes must be best friends by now.
He's not dropping any more than any other player. That 2 pt conversion was a tough catch w/ a defender nailing him as he tried to catch a ball that was lofted behind him. He's going to be a big time target for sanchez and form a really good duo w/ Cotchery.
I agree with the first bolded part and am hopeful for the second. Living 60 East of cleveland I've seen a lot of Edwards over the years. He is great at times and frustrating as hell at others. At least in my opinion he has carried that right over to the Jets. He may drop as many as Keller or Clowney, but I have not noticed Cotchey dropping as many all year as Edwards has in a few games.
He had a terrible year last year as did the Browns team, he was great 2 years ago. if he had a year like that here it very well might be the best year of a WR in NYJ history. He's been decent since coming here but he has to be given the benefit of the doubt playing w/ a new team, a rookie QB,...
Edwards stays! Yea he dropped a few but hasnt cost us the last 5 losses he was a part of (mayb missing that 2point conversion catch against buffalo). The whole team is underperforming and he will be a quality addition for years to come!
I agree. A lot of the balls tht fans are calling drops, aren't called drops by the NFL. Here is what Rex said about it in his presser yesterday. i also agree with this. Edwards and Sanchez are going to be the next great TD combo in the NFL From Rex On the pass at New England that Braylon Edwards didn't catch... The ball was tipped, but I?d love to see Braylon catch it. It was like "Oh, he?ll catch it, Braylon.? That?s kind of how I felt on it. It?s a third-and-short and you?d love to see him come down with that ball. You want to see your guy catch it. But officially the one in end zone where the ball was jarred loose, neither one of them were rule a drop by the NFL statistical gurus. Braylon might be right. I think we all wish he caught both those balls. He?s competitive. We?ve got to get him that thing. I will say this, the catch that kid from Denver [Brandon Marshall] had yesterday was incredible. The one that Braylon made on the practice field yesterday was better than that. I don?t think I?ve ever seen a guy in person make some of the catches he does on the practice field. The thing that has been really impressive with Braylon is the fact that he?s an amazing worker on the practice field. I don?t know why I would be not expecting that, but his level on the practice field is phenomenal. I think most of the great players do practice like that. [Darrelle] Revis practices like that. D?Brickashaw [Ferguson] practices like that.
There is no need to sugarcoat Braylon's drops. They happen and they can be frustrating...but no way Jets let him get away after surrendering 2 picks. Plus he is still a dam good receiver.
So your power move was dumping Edwards??? Thats not a power move, thats a dumb move. One of the dumbest moves a team can make after giving up a 3rd, a 5th, and two other players...And this is not the NBA where you can do a sign and trade deal. If we dump Edwards and can't get a decent option in the FA, and miss out on a decent WR in the draft as well, guess what? Brad Smith or Clowney would be starting. The only way we can let Edwards go is by giving him a 'low tender offer' of $1mil. Any team can match that offer, but they would have to give up the original pick, a first rounder. Either that, or a $2.7 mil tender offer in which case we get a 1st and a 3rd round pick if any other team decides to match it. http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2009/01/15/2009-restricted-free-agent-tender-amounts/
