They're both rookies that are having trouble with decision making. Both also show that they have the ability to make good decisions and nice throws. One thing I do like about Stafford is that he is tough. Hard to say how much his shoulder effected him today but it obviously did. This is a question that can be better analyzed after 2-3 seasons.
I also want to know why we keep comparing the two like we made the wrong trade. There was no way the Jets were gonna get Stafford even if they really wanted him.
Stafford by far. He is a winner. He had 4 INT's today and they were bad, but you can see he is a leader. He doesn't pout or cry like a baby like Sanchez does. Again, he is on the Lions. Also, I was impressed that he even played at all.
So Sanchez isn't a leader? Because I've read that in that huddle he owns everything. Guys like Mangold and Faneca have gone on record saying that. And Stafford by far ain't shit. Sanchez has been the reason why the Jets have had a chance to win 7 out of the 10 games they've played. ugh their rookies. No one has pulled ahead of the other at any point until they're both 30 starts in.
well he played well in the first 3 no need to explain that. he has given them the lead in the 4th quarter of 4 other games and our defense which is what this team is supposed to be built around blew those leads.
he's marched down the field, scored a TD, and then the defense has let the final seconds score happen 3 times this year. Both Miami games should have been won, and the Jags game. And just to throw it in there, Sanchez could have pulled a Romo and beat the Bills while throwing 5 INTs if Weatherford gets the damn spot down.
I feel for you guys who are upset about the two/three "Stafford vs. Sanchez" threads that have popped up so far. Brace yourself, folks. Until both quarterbacks are out of the league possibly ten/fifteen years from now, there will always be a fresh "S v. S" thread in this forum. They're linked, eternally.
I miss the Chad Pennington vs. Kellen Clemens threads. I guess this is the evolved version of those. His best performances have come in our losses I would say (Miami+Jacksonville). Also, I just want to say I am not anti-Sanchez or anything like that despite the negative talk towards him lately. It is not all his fault at all. Way too much has been thrown at him for a rookie QB with little starting experience.
Why do people forget that there are 21 other players who influence a win or loss...not to mention the coaches on the sideline? On some teams, QB isn't even the most important position yet it always comes down to this guy vs that guy. I only made the thread to compare 2 players at the same position who are both rookies. Talking about who won or who lost a game for their team and naming 1 guy in the process is asinine. That's why Rex says Mark "played well enough to win"...because he alone cannot win anything.
Then you could use INT% and fumbles. Though then TD% swings the other way. Damn, back to square one. Of course, we could just watch them both play and give them more than half a season instead of strictly using stats from a small sample size. But hey, what have they done lately? For all we know, Freeman could turn out better than both. Which would completely suck.
I think the Lions were nuts to play him Thursday. You could tell early he wasn't right. I still think he has more upside (talent-wise) than Sanchez. It doesn't mean he'll be a better QB, especially if the Lions let him get beat into another Joey Harrington.
he does have the higher ceiling for talent, but Sanchez has the higher floor. if that makes any sense.
okay yo heres the bottom line. they're both rookies. they're both going to make mistakes. they've both had flashes of absolute brilliance and they've both made rookie mistakes. sanchez is CLEARLY in position to have a much better career than stafford, being that he is in detroit. also, stafford wasn't available when we were on the clock with the fifth pick, so why the comparison? we did NOT make a mistake in drafting sanchez over stafford, because that was not our call. sanchez will be great. he has put us in position to win 7 out of the 10 games we've played. defense and special teams has failed him in 3 of those 7 games. as for the other 3? he will learn. yes, the fourth interception against new england was absolutely atrocious, but how many times did we see him throw balls away that he otherwise would have forced since the buffalo game? he is learning, he will make mistakes, but he will be a great quarterback. give him time.
