Joe Haden is a baller, but Terrence Cody has the ability to do more for this team. After the combine, I think Haden will go way before our pick. He's easily the draft's best corner.
We can only hope that the Jets pull some shit off and make the playoffs, but that's highly unrealistic. This team should probably end up with 6 to 8 wins which would put them in the 12 to 14 range. If the Jets end up with an 6-10, 7-9, or 8-8 record, then Haden could very well be gone. I see him going between 6 and 10 - especially if he runs a fast 40.
Cody could last to the middle of the first, but if the Jets are around 15-18, how about Corey Wootton or Sergio Kindle?
IMO, it all depends on what teams are drafting in that 6-10 range. A few teams...Washington, Oakland and Buffalo will probably go in a different direction. I expect Haden to run well and should be the third DB off the board. Berry and Mays will be gone before Haden.
15 to 18 is the middle of the first. Mount Cody will get drafted much higher than you think because he's a rarity. At the point, Corey Wootton is a second round prospect. He'll have to have a great combine to move into the back end of the first round. Sergio Kindle isn't the most productive player in the world, but he's got a lot of talent. He's got a non-stop motor, but I don't know if that's enough to get him into the first either. Players like Southern Cal's Everson Griffen, TCU's Jerry Hughes, Texas A&M's Von Miller, and South Carolina's Eric Norwood are better options RIGHT NOW. What's awesome about this draft is that there's so much 3-4 talent available that our team will be able to find some very talented players in the later rounds - guys like George Selvie, Greg Hardy, Jermaine Cunningham, Antonio Coleman, Greg Romeus, Corey Wootton, and Arthur Jones could all be available towards the end of the second.
If we were to take Haden, I would need to change my pants. By shutting down the two primary targets of a quarterback, the safeties can be more flexible in their play. With two legitimate cornerbacks, I think we can see a revival of Rhodes' big play tendencies.
Could be an option, late rd, if we don't get Cody. Big Body (335) but not as athletic/big as Cody. Couldn't read when he was recruited. Powe has a severe learning disability. Has only really played one year for Ole Miss. Played very little in 2008. Talking about Ole' Miss, I love Dexter McCluster's potential in the NFL. Could be that Darren Sproles type player. Could be a replacement for Leon, if we go that direction. Dexter isn't as big (weight) as Leon, but we could use McCluster in the same manner......kickoff returns, receiver out of the backfield and give TJ/Greene a breather.
Jerrell Powe isn't the smartest guy in the world, but he's worked his ass off to get where he is and I really respect that. Powe had to go to Hargrave Military Academy after high school because his grades weren't good enough for him to play major college football. Powe got things in order and EARNED his scholarship to Ole Miss. McCluster is an extremely versatile player and I believe a lot of teams will show interest in him earlier in the draft. The Jets don't need to spend another pick on a running back unless it's toward the back end of the draft. At this point, McCluster could go ahead of Noel Devine. Without Leon Washington, there's a glaring hole for a guy that can catch passes out of the backfield. A third down/change of pace back. WW mentioned Arkansas RB Mike Smith earlier - he is a late round option that could contribute in a similar way. Smith has track star speed. Here's a guy to keep an eye on: Southern Cal's Stafon Johnson. I know he's not a third down back, but he's one of the most talented backs I've seen in a while. A scary weight lifting accident cut a promising season short. Johnson is big and fast. I really believe he'll be a hell of a back at the next level. The guy's got the talent of a starter, but he call fall in the draft. Whoever lands him is going to get a steal.
I Like Spikes alot and Dez Bryants a hell of a receiver but i wouldnt mind going after Ricky Sapp from clemson. That kid has the explosiveness to be a great pass rushing OLB.
I've seen a lot of Ricky Sapp over the past couple years. I'll be able to watch him in person for the third time this weekend. I don't like him as a 3-4 OLB. I see him as a situational pass rusher in the 4-3 at the next level. The guy just seems very skinny and he plays like it too. Sure, he has a quick first step, but I don't know if he'll be able to take on pro blockers. Sapp's been playing a lot of 4-3 linebacker for Clemson this season and he's been exposed in pass coverage - especially in the flats. That's expected from a guy that's played with his hand in the ground though. I'll try to pay close attention to him against USC. The Gamecocks have a swiss cheese offensive line, so Sapp might make a few plays off the edge. Also, Clemson DT/DE Daquan Bowers is a hell of a 3-4 lineman prospect. Watch out for this kid.
I say WR dont bank on Edwards being the savior he had some decent looks over the last couple of games and dropped tons of passes. He is no Number 1 that they claim him to be..
good observation, for some reason i think he has the raw talent and quickness to just blow off the line but like you said he might not be able to take on pro blockers.
Tomorrow night if you have a chance to watch the Texas/Texas A&M game, watch A&M's defensive end Von Miller. Von Miller completely destroyed Russ Okung on a couple plays when the Aggies play Oklahoma State. Also, Miller made Oklahoma's Trent Williams look like a joke. I don't like to give up big name comparisons too often, but Miller reminds me a lot of Terrell Suggs when he was at Arizona State...I haven't seen a defensive end get into the backfield as much as Miller does since Suggs. 18.5 TFLs and 15.5 sacks on a middle of the pack Big 12 team. Miller has two games left to add to these huge numbers. (Also, on A&M's offense, watch out for GH's rising quarterback prospect Jerrod Johnson.)
I don't know a whole lot about it, but is he gonna make a full recovery? He definitely has a nose for the end zone.
I sure as hell hope the kid makes a full recovery. It'd be very sad if he never plays again...such incredible talent gone to waste. I've heard that Johnson may be awarded another year of playing time at USC because of this injury. I think it would be very smart for Stafon Johnson to return to USC and play another year, just so he can show the nation that he's still got it.
With the way this draft is looking, I think we should go OLB in the first. Ideally, we'd move back to the early 20's and pick up a 3rd, then we can take Jerry Hughes. Hughes is going to be a baller in the NFL. Then in the 2nd we could take Oghobaase or Wotton for DE. Then in the 3rd we could take Nate Allen, I love Nate Allen.
We need to take Terrence Cody if he's available. This draft is loaded with 3-4 OLB and DE talent, so we may be able to get good players later in the draft. Jerry Hughes will be a mid-second round pick unless he destroys the combine.
