Then isn't it Schotty's job to realize this and tailor his offense so as to minimize Sanchez's impact on its effectiveness?
IF we want dink and dunk, and that's a big if, what about getting Zorn as an OC? It's hard to say why he failed so miserably in Washington (I think the HC was just too much too son) but I think from a personality standpoint he'd be real good at working with a young QB. Don't discard Jagodinzski too... after all we did interview him for the HC job... PS All in all however I think the race will be between Cavanugh and Callahan... and it's a toss-up.
Weis, or Hackett. If you bring in Hackett you bring him in with the idea that you hire a good QB oach that he agrees with philosophically and that if he does not expand his vertical passing attack, by the third year you replace him with the QB coach. Hackett understand stretching the field horizontally, the problem is that kills you by making you settle for too many 3's
if the Jets had coaches like that, they'd go really far. Because as we've all seen, the bad coaching decisions have been the downfall of some talented rosters.
Some of the people here calling for Hackett to return are absolutely out of their minds. Did any of you pay attention to the board during his reign as OC? The last thing I need to see are more "FIRE HACKETT" threads.
idk if i really want anyone who'd had anything to do with this current offense taking over. but if we do go internal callahan is the obvious choice. otherwise i'd like to see either: ken anderson: steelers qb coach, has done a great job with ben and has prior oc experience jim harbaugh: john harbaugh's brother...so the connection to ryan is there. has done a great job with stanford. nfl is probably his next step. jim fassel
No, it's not. Jimmy Harbaugh with either stay at Stanford and turn them into a PAC-10 powerhouse or go to Michigan when Rich Rodriguez gets canned.
so if rex calls him and offers him an interview to be OC of the jets you don't think he'll listen? it's a huge step, imo. succeed and you're looking at an nfl head coaching gig.
No, he won't listen. The guy has turned Stanford into a legitimate PAC-10 contender. If the Cardinal keeps getting better, which I think they will, Stanford should make a BCS appearance. Some guys are meant to coach college ball. Harbaugh is one of those guys. What he's done at Stanford is awesome. He's also built a nice little rivalry with USC's bitch head coach Pete Carroll. He's not going to leave a program that he has complete control over for a team that he has zero ties to. I don't give a damn if Rex Ryan worked under his brother. I think there might be a little bad blood between the two anyway considering that Harbaugh was hired over Ryan.
i disagree....i think he'd listen. but you might be right. anyway...i was just listing a coupla guys i'd like to see as jets OC. but, fwiw, harbaugh did re-hire rex and promoted him to asst head coach. there is a connection there, imo.
I am right. Harbaugh would be a complete idiot to leave an up and coming program like Stanford to become an offensive coordinator for a mediocre at best pro team.
Paul Hackett developed both Rich Gannon and Chad Pennington into High level QB's. Pennington was held back by his PHYSICAL inability. Gannon got a Ring. And aside from CMart leading the NFL in Rushing, Hackett was replaced because we never placed higher than 17th in Scoring offense. Part of that clearly was the infamous 3rd and 15 Draw play. However, in 2002 there were many games where we put up lights out point totals. That's where the job of the HC comes into play. He needs to install the solid horizontal spread but be able to force the down the field action if the OC can't learn it. (the opposite of what we are asking him to do with Schottinthefoot.) The ideal situation would be to hire Weis when he gets fired, and bring in Hackett as QB coach when Oakland fires him. With this cast, all we need is a replacement for Stuckey in the slot, and we're a top 5 offesnse.
Really we are going to go back to "Cant" as in Can't Hackett. This guy dried up like a prune every big spot every big game. I don't think he was that good the first time around.
