Yeah...Martz is an offensive wizard....but he's had problems in the past with people he's worked with....his ego drives his behavior unfortunetly. good observation, Mick.
How about the QB Coach from the Bengals, the guy Rex was targeting in the off season if Schotty left. He has made another USC QB a great QB, so maybe he can do it with Palmer.
Could both Schottys end up in Buffalo? Just read an article on PFT that Marty Schottenheimer's name is surfacing as a candidate for HC job in Buffalo. Since there are a lot of rumblings about Schotty Jr. here in NY, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a father son duo in Buffalo next year. It's been done before, e.g. Buddy hiring Rex and Rob, Lane Kiffin bringing his dad over to Tennessee etc. Here's the link to the PFT article http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/11/23/schottenheimers-name-surfaces-in-buffalo/
if there is a god....this will happen. But Marty should be the OC and Brian should be the HC.....I love watching a new "clusterf*ck" grow into something worth laughing at.
I remember when this was a rumor for the NYJ last offseason. Terrible. I hope it happens for Buffalo.
I hate to hijack my own thread but the HOU TEN game just ended and it just dawned on me that we have the same record as the Titans. Unbelievable.
Sanchez is turning into an INT machine because he's asked to throw too much and the offense is putting too much on him instead of splitting the RBs and letting them carry the team. If they Jets bring in someone as pass-crazy as Martz now they may only wind up hurting him. As I've said before (probably too much) - I think Matt Cavanaugh is going to be the guy. He's been working closely with Sanchez as the QB coach and Ryan likes him from when he was the Ravens' OC during their Super Bowl run. I'd go with Callahan if we had Clemens under center or someone else who could not be relied upon to win games for the team. Someone where the team absolutely needed to favor the run and give all the backs as many carries as possible(LIKE THIS YEAR!!!!) However, I think the Jets have a player with Sanchez who could be that guy. It would make more sense to bring in a coach more geared toward the QB position who could design a system to benefit a quarterback, provided he can remember there is a running game and more than one fucking halfback on the roster. Also floating around there is Jeff Jagozinski. He is a coach with a great feel for the OLine since he coached that unit for Northern Illinois, East Carolina, Boston College, and Atlanta. He was the OC in 2006 for the Packers and helped make Matt Ryan a first round pick in 2008. I'd listen for his name if no-one currently on the staff gets promoted next season.
^ Jagodzinski is the Tampa Bay OC. He has a job. EDIT: forgot about his firing. The sad thing is that the Jets are one of the top teams in rushing attempts. The problem is Sanchez is passing in the wrong situations. 1st and 10, 3rd and 1,2,and 3 are times to use the running game. But its the passing game that shows up on those downs and the selected play makes no sense at all. Like 3rd and 2 shotgun with a rookie who doesn't do well in shotgun. That allows defenses to tee off on him. How is that helping him? Just promote from within. the offense is fine, the man who can't stop outsmarting himself is the problem.
I personally thing Trestman would be a great hire for you guys. Here's the question, though.....This would be the second coach thrown under the bus by the new HC this season right? I don't know if I would want to come into a New York team under an HC under pressure like Ryan sort of set himself up for. All that said; I think Trestman would be a good hire.
