I know I'm putting the cart before the horse....but i figure if I sacrifice enough chickens and drink enough lamb's blood over the next 6 weeks.....there's a good chance Schotty could be shown the door. Hell, he should've been ousted last January. Anyway..that's neither here nor there....but it still got me thinking....who's out there? We have the usual suspects from within the organization...like Cavanaugh & Callahan....and people have posted their support in favor of grabbing C.Weis if he becomes available. But is there anybody else worth looking at? any bright minds from the college ranks looking to get promoted to the big league? (Mr.E, Green Hurricane or WW85....any thoughts on this?) Personally...if the Jets don't hire within...I would like them to find somebody who's a thorough teacher and obviously plays to the strengths of our offense.....Sanchez's development is obviously top priority too. What say you TGG? I'm curious to see what everyone's opinion is on this....i know it's a tad early....but in light of Rex announcing that he's becoming more involved with the offense from here on out...the end of Schotty's tenure could become a reality.
if they don't hire from within the organization i think it will be a mistake. my vote is for callahan at the moment. i think an offense like the one the raiders ran back when he was their coach would be good for sanchez. lots of short safe throws are a rookie qb's friend.
I'd be fine with giving Callahan a chance.....I"m not completely sold on him....but we certainly need a change. At least Sanchez is familiar with Callahan...so the transition would be seamless.
yeah i don't want him to have to learn a new system this offseason. i do think a change in offensive philosophy is very necessary.
I realize that this is an unrealistic thought, but the idea of Mike Leach as OC with Rex controlling the D is pretty intriguing.
I'm a huge Marc Trestman fan. Marc has a brilliant offensive mind. Trestman is the HC for Montreal in the CFL. There have been rumors Al Davis might consider Trestman for HC of the Faiders. I don't know if he would quit his HC job to be a coordinator in the NFL again. Trestman would be a perfect coach for Sanchez. Trestman has been very successful in developing young QBs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Trestman
Schottenheier will be blamed for the offense's struggles this season, even though I don't think Bill Walsh himself could make this offense consistent with a rookie Sanchez at QB.... Nevertheless I always disliked Schottenheimer. The numbers tell the story with him... His offenses have been ranked: 25, 26, 16. That's fucking garbage. I'd be down with promoting Callahan. But if you are to go outside the organization you would have to look at assistants on the Saints, Texans and Colts' staffs. Why not bring someone in who has been around successful offenses? There is a ridiculous amount of talent on our offense.
yes..I'm quite familiar with Trestman...as his team (the Alouettes) has been raping the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at will for the past 2 seasons. The Alouette offense has been a juggernaut during his tenure. He is intriguing......I also read somewhere that he could end up in Buffalo if Wilson doesn't land a Shanahan. nice call, WW85.
I'm wiling to give Callahan a shot. I can't believe Schotty was a serious candidate for our vacant HC position last year. I feel like punching Adam Schefter for constantly telling us that he was.
He ran one of the trillion versions of the West Coast offense for Oakland in their Gannon/Tim Brown/Garner days.
You really want to give a CFL coach a shot at OC? It's a totally different type of game. They barely run the ball, there's an extra player, the field is bigger, only 3 downs, single points. I think that would be a horrible idea.
He's a CFL Head coach.....and the Alouette offense has been unstoppable this year....they're undefeated at home too. Trestman is intriguing....I think he could be a good fit as our OC. Remember...he came from the NFL (he was a QBs coach in SF, Oak, Det...he was the OC for the Raiders when they went to the Super Bowl in 2002). He's worked wonders with QBs....I think Sanchez would learn a ton from this guy. EDIT: click on the Trestman link in WW85's earlier post, Jake....he's got a nice resume regarding QB development.
martz would take our #1 rushing offense and turn it into the 26th ranked rushing offense. there's a reason he's out of football. His ego is way too big.
