I dont think its the running plays themselves. I think its the type of running plays and the personel. They need to give shonne greene more carries and call different running plays instead of running straight up the middle 95% of the time.

And I am guessing this could have gone in the playcalling thread but oh well.

You're right, and that's been taken care of.

Screens? Note last week, big D-lineman running the opposite way after picking off a screen pass. Anyway, without Leon, our screens wouldn't generally net too many yards. Greene is said to have stone hands and Jones appears too slow to turn the ball upfield during a screen.

The Jets want to be a running team. And for all who complain about the running up the middle, this is working to the strength of the O-line and Jones. Jones is not an outside runner. I remember him getting caught a few times last week against Jacksonville on outside running plays.

Boils down to Sanchez making the correct choice. Throwing into coverage where there are three defenders and two offensive players is not going to cut it.

I'd like to blame Schotty but between the picks and drops early, I'm giving him a pass for this one.

WR Screens work well too, if designed well. The Pats use the WR screen like it's their running game. Giants do it effectively too. Washington used to do it well to Santana. Carolina, Steve Smith.

We could definitely be calling more WR Screens to Cotchery because he's such a physical runner. Brad Smith used to get screens all the time - and his shiftiness and vision allowed for successful results - but I guess Schotty thinks he's more effective running the Option.

One terrible play that had worked previously this year. Granted it was run with Smith and Leon.

My point is that for some reason we've abandoned the WR Screen when we actually have the personnel to run it. Our WRs are also good blockers, so whether you throw a quick screen to Edwards, Cotchery, or Brad Smith, you can count on the other two to set up good blocks.

Clowney could be our Welker with the proper tutelage.

Is Clowney shifty enough for plays like this? I know he has speed but there is a difference between being fast and shifty in the slot. I haven't seen this from Clowney yet.

That's a good point but I guess the play would depend on the type of coverage.

Looked pretty shifty on his kick return, which I've been saying since Leon went down that Clowney should be doing.
