Well we have Cotchery and Edwards. Keller is still listed at TE. Out side of that I rank no receiver on this team ahead of Jones for any offensive play. Clowny is a one trick pony. Wright is strictly a ST guy. We really only have two receivers on this team, 3 if you count Keller, worthy of playing in the NFL full time on offense. Add to that both Keller and Edwards seem to go through long bouts with the dropsies and our pass catching talent seems vastly overrated by many. I still hold that Cotch is our best option in the passign game.
If you don't think Cotchery, Keller and Edwars are more of an offensive threat than Thomas Jones in today's NFL I'm not sure what game you're watching.
Actually, when one thinks about it, this true. It is tough to watch, though. The three games where Sanchez cost us the game he has been absolutely horrible. One of our losses is on the ST unit. I know one other was basically on the D. I guess the third one was sort of an almost win, but more of a collective loss.
Good point, but a) I never said that, and b) this is completely different. Shotty's play calling frequently puts Sanchez in positions he shouldn't be put in at this point in his development. Shotty steadfastly refuses to a call run-heavy offense - even when we are running the ball extremely well. Shotty's play calling defy's logic at times, and I mean every fucking game, not just once in a while. His system fools nobody.
The sad thing is that he is now almost half way to being a bust. There are downsides associated with rushing a QB along too fast. In this case we had a Rookie HC making a decision to start a Rookie QB and giving Schotty playcalling responsibiliites. The plan has worked dismally thus far. The Rookie QB has had 10 games and he has seemingly regressed and continues to make really dumb mistakes. Typically QBs get 2 seasons to show if they can play in the NFL. Sanchez is nearing the halfway mark on that trajectory and the answer thus far is that he is not capable of being a starting QB in the NFL. Perhaps if he had been brought along more gradually and not been the starting QB out of the gate, then he would be in a better position right now. This is a big reason why I was personally against naming him the starter right out of camp.
This is what the idea was for yesterday's game (Sanchez words): the idea was for me to start throwing some strikes early on... Schotty and Rex why the hell do you put him in such a position?! Can't he manage the game for once...? Can we not try to outsmart opponents for once!?
Agree the coaching staff continues to use this rookie QB in a stupid way. They put the entire game on him rather than just ask him to manage the game conservatively and not make mistakes. Instead despite their empty promises after the Bills debacle - they have gone right back to the same idiotic gameplan that has repeatedly failed with Sanchez. Schotty should be fired today. But he won't be. Sanchez should be benched today. But he won't be. Instead the Jets will blame their poor performance on a few injuries to Leon and Jenks and fail to see that those are the excuses of LOSERS. Pathetic. At this point I am just hoping that Ryan knows what he is doing because it makes no sense to me. I don't see how continuing to send Sanchez out there as a starter after dismal performances is good for the team or for Sanchez. Perhaps he needs to sit out a game and see things from a different vantage point. Perhaps Clemens deserves a chance to see if he can do better.
There's no point in benching him right now. You need to go look at one of junc's posts regarding Sanchez. The numbers are in his favor. if you want to blame anything, how about blaming the shitty tackling? You put a rookie 24 deep in the first half, and you have no choice but to score quickly.
I was skeptical of the choice, but at the same time felt the Jets ran a competition, and felt the best Qb should start. In hindsight it appears as if the FO may have been favoring Sanchez, but I really don't know that, and if Clemens could not outright win the starting job, it seemed like the choice to go with Sanchez was, at worst, a draw. The one problem all along, though, was that there was more downside to taking him out if he didn't do well than in letting Clemens start and putting in Sanchez at some point, meanwhile he would presumably be learing by watching, and practicing. Now he seems to be if anything getting worse. It's certainly not the case that he's improving the way he is being used and coached. I have to conclude that Clemens would be playing better right now. Saying he's be playing worse or no better than Sanchez strikes me as quite an indictment of both Tanny and Schotty. Remember they went deep into the off season before they got Sanchez, not having done anything about Clemens and his status. If their view was that Clemens is really as bad as Sanchez is playing now, how could they not have done something regarding Clemens? It's no answer to say they were hoping to land Sanchez all along, either. As others have noted it would be quite helpful to have a vet Qb working with Sanchez. Well, there ain't one on the roster. Oh well... The evidence that Sanchez is not improving is bringing me around to thinking he needs to sit a game or two.
If Sanchez busts, this will be the reason. The only reason. That was the philosophy behind the first play bomb against Jacksonville. How did that work out? I remember Cowher HANDCUFFED Berger his rookie year. Big Ben kept saying he wanted to do more, he could do more, but Cowher (don't remember who the OC was) just told him to shut the fuck up and hand off the ball. Here we are now, three straight losses, and we STILL have the number one rushing attack in the league. But three yards and a cloud of dust rarely gets an offensive coordinator promoted to a head coach position. Hence... "Air it out, kiddo: they'll think I'm brilliant."
The Jets poor performance is because of many things. A rookie QB, A rookie HC, a thin and ageing DL, a veteran talented player at safety who is interested in his after football career. A talented second year TE who has been widely inconsistent, a new WR added into the mix deep into the season, a Veteran No. 1 wideout with a hamstring injury that has kept him out of games and limited his practice with the rookie QB. A running game that puts up great overall numbers but is mediocre at moving the chains and creating third and short situations and can't be depended on putting enough points on the board to win in a pass oriented league. A thin group on special teams because of an overall lack of depth. In short if you want to bench Sanchez because you think we are a SB team with Clemens or a decent veteran QB, you are completely out of your skull. This team needs many parts and it's going to take a few years for Sanchez to be good enough to win just like it did when we got Namath.
We can sit here all day and talk about how Sanchez is or isn't learning. Fact is, Shotty is calling terrible plays that put Sanchez in positions he shouldn't be in. We have no veteran QB to teach Sanchez even the basics of the game. So, until we get a better OC and either a vet QB or a QB coach who knows what he is doing, Sanchez will continue to have games like this.
Nobody needs to analyze numbers. This kid is a rookie and in over his head: 16 college starts + high draft pick + big paycheck + Californication attitude + NY media super-hype to add to the attitude + Establishing an early NY modelling career and other distractions + TV ads up the ass alongside Eli Manning (like he's really at that level) + 3 big wins under his belt, leading to: + "I can eat hot dogs on the sidelines now because I'm Mark Sanchez" + "Watch me make a fucking speech instead of answer media questions" __________________________________________________________ = One fucked up situation
not every play has a designed pump fake, manning, favre, montana, moon, not comparing sanchez to them but they used the pump fake not from design but because of experience of knowing when its needed, you dont use it all the time, but in critical situations when a play is not designed with a pump fake a smart QB would know to use it at that time.
What NFL defense allows any QB to be in the position they should be in? There is no quality NFL team that is going to win in this league without their QB being able to make plays in positions they don't want to be in our shouldn't be in. I would love to see Sanchez in a nice bubble and not have to throw the ball more than 15 yards into an uncovered WR on every throw. That's simply not practical. If they guy can't take the lumps and eventually figure it out we aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
Just let the hotdog shit go, that was innocent, dumb, but innocent. Most of what you list here is just a young guy not quite ready for the spotlight. The prepared speech and the hotdog I could care less about. The high draft pick, that is what you have to do to get a potential starting QB in this league in most cases. And the "super hype" is all but gone now.
