I still think Sanchez will be (gulp) great, but God he's got me worried with some of these INTs. Still, I would lay some of the blame for the first pick and the 4th pick at the feet of Schottenheimer and/or the receivers. In both instances, you had two Jets receivers within 5 yards of each other--BAD DESIGN. Why are they so close together? It's a situation where the intended receiver's defender is NOT the one making the interception but the other guy's d-Back. Spread these motherfuckers out, Brian.
we have no dump off options available. We really need to run a more West Coast style of offense that doesn;t rely on so many downfield throws. Plus, how many touches did Shonne Green get today and how early was the run abandoned?
I blame the fact that he refuses to throw the ball away for the 4th interception. I don't know how you could blame anything else, really.
Schotty is just terrible. I agree that I think Sanchez will be great, and I know he is a rookie and will make mistakes - but Schotty's offense is distugsting.
This. I posted something nearly identical in the game thread immediately after the first INT. The thing is, this happen a lot (the poor play designs, esp WR routes), but we don't always get to see the routes. The replays of that INT finally provided a perfect illustration. I'll be the first one to criticize Sanchez for shitty throws/decisions, but WAY TOO OFTEN, the routes are just doomed. Look at what happened when we spread it out more, had WRs running downfield mixed with intermediate and short routes not in close proximity with each other -- Sanchez got in a rhythm and was.....finding open targets.
Yes, thats a young guy trying to do too much. That will go away with age. The First one is obviously a very bad design. There were two receivers and 3 DB's within 5 yards of each other on that play. Silly shit going on from shotty right there.
1st and 3rd picks were as a result of receivers being too close together. The second pick was Edward's fault as much as Sanchez's. He's got to read the pressure also, run a better route, and maybe look for the ball????? The fourth pick was horrible. Let's face it. The kid went into a buzz saw today - the Pats looking to avenge week 2 and last week. The whole Jet team sucked in the first half. Where was the running game to take the pressure off the kid? And back to the 4th pick. Why are the Jets flinging the ball with a rookie QB with 3 picks already from their own 2 yard line?????? While he should have thrown it away, I think anywhere else on the field he takes a sack there.
To be honest the 4th pick doesn't even count as a pick in my opinion. That was a do or die play. If he throws it away we have to punt and we have no chance to win, if he throws it up and a Jets player catches it maybe we have a shot. I'd rather him throw it up than away in that situation.
I agree but also running right into Wilford on 1st and 2nd down all the time sets up really tough throws and prevents the QB from getting into a rhythm. It's really bad playcalling as well as bad play design. Sanchez takes some blame too, but right now it's hard to feel really good about the direction this franchise is going.
Don't worry about blaming BS for this crap he calls an offensive scheme, he has yet another lifeline to save his crappy career, a rookie qb. Brett saved him last year and Pennington's weak arm helped him before that now we have another 3 years of this guy. If BS is so good at his job why is KC not farther along in his career development, he was hear behind Chad, Brett, and he still can't run the offense? If he is that bad of a QB then you have to cut him but if he can only be developed to be a backup then get rid of the OC.
the INT's that worry me are when he misses wide open receivers. he has been doing it way too much of late. it's one thing to be confused and overwhelmed as a rookie and make poor decisions but missing open receivers can't happen.
its not sancheese fault.... it cant be. guys the kid made some BONEHEAD throws today. to the tune of 4 ints again. you cant spin it any way but that he threw a bunch of bad passes and was completely scared out there for most of the first half. you could sit there and watch the fear in his feet everytime he got the ball.
1st pick was miscommunication. Sanchez thought the receiver was gonna turn out not in. He appeared to be saying that on the sideling. The 2nd was just a bad pass. The 3rd he was trying to put a ball into a tiny spot that he had virtually no chance of hitting. The 4th was a case of trying to make something happen when there was nothing there. I think Sanchez has the makeup to be good. but at the risk of severe flaming, he has the arm strength of Pennington pre-shoulder surgery. He throw a slow ball on anything outside, so if the timing isn't perfect you're risking a DB jumping the route. he throws the long ball over the top well as well as the seam routes.
Pick #4 was inexcusable. I hope Ryan gets in Sanchez face big time about that one because there is never an excuse for throwing the ball up blindly under pressure that close to your own goal-line. Never. I'm more than ready to give him the first 3 picks as just rookie mistakes, poor communication between him and the receivers, whatever. But that last pick was just flatout inexcusable. This is where I hate the fact that Kellen Clemens is the backup QB. I'd much rather have a guy with less talent or an older guy with no future there. Because then Ryan could jerk Sanchez for a series now and then to make sure that he learns a particular lesson (like throw the fucking ball away when you're outside the tackle box and under pressure on your own 7 yard line.) That was one of the worst decisions I have ever seen a QB make. Unfortunately if Sanchez gets pulled for Clemens the Jets could easily wind up with a Todd-Robinson situation and a split clubhouse, particularly with the kind of veteran team they have here. All Clemens has to do is look 10% better than Sanchez current performance, which would not be hard, and the Jets clubhouse turns into a sullen riot, without the team being much better than they are right now. So far half of Sanchez rookie wounds are self-inflicted. The Jets need to find a way to stop that before it turns into something really bad for the franchise.
