i like that idea as well. Only if the guy who the Jets truly wanted gets taken off the board. I really want to see another 10 pick draft. Tanny got 2 pro bowlers, franchise LT who could make a pro bowl one day, a backup QB, a ST ace/#4 WR, and a 5th CB. That's one hell of a draft. And another one of those kinds of drafts would easily put this team at contender status.
You do realize that the 3-4 defense gets pressure by blitzing linebackers, right? The defensive linemen are there to take on blockers so the linebackers can make plays. You're probably one of those guys that will call Terrence Cody a bust because he won't get more than 2 to 3 sacks a season.
2010's draft is going to make or break a lot of teams. There's so much depth all over the board. If the Jets don't have a successful draft, we may see this team get worse before it gets better...especially on defense.
that's why i can see a starter being traded for more picks in this draft. If Cody is there Jenkins should be traded. Its a sad thing to do but if he nets the Jets another 2nd rounder and a 4th as well the Jets will have so much to work with for this draft. And the need it.
Yeah, trade one of the most dominant nose tackles in the league so a totally unproven rookie with high bust potential can take his place at the most important position on our defense. Great plan, you should be a GM.
IMO, we need to keep Jenkins atleast another year or two and develop a player like Cody....as DraftaFullback pointed out. Jenkins is on the down side of his career. There is no guarantee that he will heal and be 100%. In fact, it's a certainty Jenkins won't be the same. A man Jenkin's size/age just can't hold up for an entire game, let alone a season. Jenkins has chronic back problems and now a knee issue. As much as I would like a player like Haden in Rd 1, Cody is the smart choice. If the Jets continue to lose and Miami keeps winning..Cody is a lock. I'm sure Rex had alot of input in drafing Ngata in Baltimore.
Actually, he is right if you think about it, the shelf life for a dominant NT is about 6-7 years without injuries, now that Jenk's has been hurt, he may only be good for 1 year, so if you can get above market value for him and it translates into 2 good players that can give you 3-4 years it would be the right move to make.
I don't think Jenkins has that much value anymore. We may be able to get a couple late round picks for him though. I can see Tannenbaum trying to deal guys Kellen Clemens, Thomas Jones, and Leon Washington on draft day to acquire multiple picks. Kris Jenkins WAS a dominant player. There is no guarantee that he'll be able to come back from this injury. His age is my main concern. The guy's getting close to the end of his career, so it's time to find a replacement. A lot of people don't understand how old this team is. The defensive line is full of aging vets that can't cut it anymore. Kris Jenkins is really the only player on that line that should be a starter. If the Jets' front office can get anything out of some of these older players on the roster, it will be a good move. This is Mark Sanchez's team now. It's not a playoff team yet. We're going to see a major rebuild over the next couple of seasons. Honestly man, every rookie has high bust potential. It's pretty shitty to knock Terrence Cody and then not back it up with any reasons why.

Mr E brought up a great point about the age of our D-Line. Jenkins...30 (May never be the same) Ellis...32 Pouha..30..(doesn't seem that old, went on one of those overseas missions) Green....30 Douglas...30 The Jets need to get at minimum...A NT & DE (3-4) in this draft. I really would like 2 DE's.
I agree about finding a replacement, but to get rid of Jenkins and put a rookie into the starting role is the wrong way to do it. And nobody is going to trade for Jenkins when he's coming of a knee injury anyway.
I never thought trading Kris Jenkins was a realistic option. I believe that if Cody is selected by the Jets, Jenkins has to be on the roster...we have to keep some sort of rotation.
There's no doubt in my mind that Cody's the best NT prospect to come out in years, but selecting him will be pointless if the line around him aren't solid. The front office has to rebuild this defense line or this 34 scheme will fail.
Sorry, I just didn't want to sound like everyone else and pull a "We need a replacement for Kris Jenkins... Terrence Cody" I'll try to be a better poster in the future tho. If he is on the board when we pick it's a no brainer really.
Unless we get rid of Vernon Gholston (highly unlikely), I don't want to see this team draft another 3-4 OLB until later in the draft. I can see Ryan going out and signing a few free agent pass rushers. This draft has to be all about the lines. Cody and a 3-4 defensive end prospect would be perfect. (Jerry Hughes is an animal though - Hughes, Fresno's RB Ryan Mathews, and Boise's CB Kyle Wilson are my top mid-major players)
Choice of Cody or Haden?.....it has to be Cody. Players like Cody are very rare. Maybe we can get a CB in FA (at a good price) or pick-up a later rd CB that may produce. I have my eye on Jerome Murphy, USF. Haden could be a possibility if Cody is gone. It would be difficult for the Tanny to justify huge money on a #2 CB/Haden. There is only so much money to go around.
