There's alot more riding on this game than meets the eye. Ryan has reached the perverbial x-roads with this team. He's out of motivational tactics as the "must win game" statement means absolutely nothing at this point. More Hot air just isn't gonna accomplish anything at all with the players, the fanbase or the tristate Media. Defining moment? Maybe. Ryan came into town talking tough. 2 months later he's crying in the meeting room. On Sunday, he's up against the guy that he didn't come to town to "kiss his rings". Ryan has alot on the line this Sunday the least of which is his 1st year HC resume. What will it read after this game on Sunday and his first season as a whole? This game could define Ryan's coaching stay here in Jetland. If this team comes out flat and gets it's collective ass handed to it, then Ryan will have no choice but to start perhaps a Parcellian purge of the roster during the offseason. Not to say destroy it all and start over, but some "names" may have to go and that could include coaches as well. He's gonna be forced to make hard choices about his players and his staff. While logic says the Jets will get absolutely smoked on Sunday, the history of this franchise says this team may have one last gasp left in it and we'll see it for 3 qtrs. By qtr #4, Ryan and the fanbase will have learned enough about the '09 Jets to make and sound judgement and hand down a verdict on the '09 Jets and its CS. I have a funny feeling this team will show up in Foxboro and its ego/pride will pull 3 good qtrs of football out of it. Anything less would be a tragedy and will force both Ryan and Tannenbaum to re-examine the roster and Ryan to give the perverbial fisheye to his staff.. Thoughts?
C, why does there need to be a defining moment 10 games into a persons career? Imagine if you were 10 weeks into your new job and people were asking for more TPS reports.
If I had started a new job and couldn't live up to my resume, I'd expect to be getting the fisheye from my employer. Ryan made things hard on himself and now, he's faced with another "moment". If Ryan can't get this team motivated to play at a high level for 60mins this Sunday after "crying", what's his next move? There's nothing left for him to do except put a bullet in certain players and coaches and I believe the purge has already begun.
People label way too early. This is year one. Do you remember the majority of predictions before the season started? 8-8/9-7. This is not a defining moment. A win would be nice.
Living up to what resume? Having a top 10 D? Well he has done that. His resume as a HC is 9 games old. If you go from middle management to CEO are you expceted to turn GM into Honda in 10 weeks?
yes, I'm sure by his resume the Jets expected nothing but winning seasons from day one. there certainly wasn't any expectation of a learning curve.
And a crushing defeat would be what..? What yardstick would you use to judge? I'm saying this team HAS TO SHOW UP and play. Lose perhaps, but not get smoked. If they play and fold in the 4th AGAIN, what does that say about Ryan's first year as HC?
Name 1 team that has beaten the BB Pats with a rookie QB. Now name 1 team that has done that twice in a season.
Learning curve sure. Anyone and Everyone expected that. I'm not saying the Jets expected 16-0 from Ryan. I'm saying Ryan came in and made things hard on himself and now he's facing the guy that he didn't come here to "kiss his rings". Suppose Ryan's team finds yet another way to lose or worse yet, gets it's ass kicked by not showing up at all? Doesn't that reflect badly on Ryan?
OK, so the Jets are the #3 D in the NFL The #3 Pass D in the NFL The #18 rush D (minus their best defender) in the NFL
Can't cause it's never happened. That's not what I'm getting at. Its not winning, but how this game is played and how well this team is prepared on Sunday that writes the story. This team fails to show up, fails on fundamentals, fails to be competitive, then it will reflect on its leadership badly. That's the point I'm getting at here..
whats up with you saying 3 good quarters? is that like your way of predicting we will put up a good fight and blow it?
Yep. and they're 1-5 over their last 6 games. Stats can be deceiving can't they. If Rex were simply the DC still, you'd have to love it but he's not.
Fails to be competitive? The Jets were close in every loss. They gave up 3 loses on the final drive. If you want to play the what if game, than the Jets could very well be 7-2 or even 8-1
i just didn't understand what you were getting at. it is certainly the pattern, one that i hope will be broken sunday.
I would love to sweep NE* as much as the next Jets fan. The 3-0 start was clearly an abboration. We have a young team in transition.... Splitting the season series with NE* doesn't exactly mean we should fire RR. I expect the game to be close, but if they lose will you really be surprised? NE* is a good team, at home, coming off a demoralizing loss.
no, it would show a team and coach still learning, which is what you expect in year one. just because Rex believed they were going to win the Super Bowl this season doesn't mean everyone he told that to then set that as the barometer of their own expectations of the team based on their own knowledge and analysis of the players. building a team is usually a multi-season process, with a few bumps in the road. what you look for in those bumps is whether the team is competitive and improving from year to year. considering this is the first year, we have nothing to gauge its improvement against, but we know for certain they are competitive.
Nobody said anything about firing Ryan Jake.. Splitting the season with NE would be a accomplishment but if this team goes up to NE and gets smoked? Then yeah, it will reflect on Ryan's 1st year resume.
