Just something to throw out there but with leonard having surgery it might be possible to see lowery at safety where alot of people think he would be better suited.....just a thought

In theory, not a bad idea. For a game against the Pats and Bilichick, bad idea.

Eh, he's not our best tackler by any stretch.

They should put Gholston at safety and have him blitz from all over the line against Brady all night long. It wouldn't work but it would be entertaining as hell to watch and at least Gholston would get some field time which he's having trouble doing when he competes with all-pros like Jamaal Westerman.

The worst part about having Eric Smith start for Leonhard is we're not going to have anybody to cover Welker in the slot. That's what Smith would have been doing without the injury.

I'm not saying he would have been effective but he would have been better than anybody else we have to do it.

He has the skill set to play safety, probably better than he does for corner. The only problem would be trying him at a new position against one of the most dangerous offenses left on our schedule.

Are we positive that Leonhard is out? They didn't even know how bad the injury was or whether or not he'll need screws. He could still wind up playing with his finger in a cast/splint.

If I had to guess it's Lowery as the nickel corner/safety and the guy most likely to draw Welker. I guess they could put Strickland on that if Sheppard is really healthy and ready to go full time.

Lol..I totally forgot about Sheppard. Can you blame me? Welker is going to abuse the shit out of Lowery.

I won't put it above Ryan to just put Revis and Sheppard on Welker and Moss full time, regardless of where they line up. Lowery, Coleman and Stickland should probably pull Edleman and the rest. If Ryan just lets our corners play their normal slots, be prepared to see a lot of Randy Moss matched up against Lowery and Strickland, running his routes directly at Rhodes and Smith like Belichick had him doing against the Colts Sunday night.

Let's say we trade Rhodes this off-season.

Would you be OK with Lowery and Smith alternating at S and we draft a CB or would you prefer to keep Lowery at CB and draft a S?

I'd much rather just have Smith start beside Leonhard. I'd also like to see Ihedigbo get a chance in there.

I guess one good thing about moving Lowery there is that he could spend all OTAs and training camp at the position and we could then decide if he can cut it. Maybe he will be surprising and take a starting spot. The good thing if he can stick around would be that he'd be able to play in nickel and dime packages.

He needs to learn to tackle, but I don't think he's a Rex Ryan guy in that respect. I think Rhodes will stay unless we get a FA there. I'm also not opposed to drafting a DB at either CB or Safety. Eric Berry would be nice, but probably not attainable.

Did anyone happen to see Rhodes' interview last night on SNY? I find him annoying. The clear implication in what he said was that he expects to play somewhere else. Whether that is when his contract is up, or sooner, is unclear.

What did he say?? And if you are a defensive player who likes football, why the hell woudl you want to play for anyone other than Rex Ryan? And why would you want to be on any other team right now? He ahs a role on the defense, he has a great O-line with a young promising QB and playermakers at the skill positions. He's got Kris Jenkins and a strong group of LBs and Revis, as well as a pretty good player who goes as hard as anyone right beside him in Leonhard...

Lowery is growing. He's no Darrelle Revis, but who is?

If Lowery wins the starting battle next off-season between he, Strickland and the corner we pick up on the second day of the draft (hopefully) I feel very comfortable.

We should not put him at safety. He's not physical enough. He's an average cornerback with the potential to be a good cornerback.

didn't hear it but I have been getting the feeling Rhodes doesn't like playing for the Jets.

My opinion is that the coaching staff is really kicking his ass to make him a better player and he doesn't want to put the effort/fatigue in it.

I know Rhodes has talent but football.wide he just doesn't have the mentality.

By football-wise I mean that for all I know you can be a drug addict off the field but if, once you play football, you deeply care and become a raging bull then you can become a succesfull player. If on the other side you are a model citizen but just lack the focus/fire to play you'll get nowhere... and I thik Rhodes has become that.

Sure, he's no thug, but he doesn't give a s??t about playing anymore and that's just sad. If you have that kind of mentality at 27 you're going nowhere... he jsut wants to find a place where he can be part-time football player, part-time actor, part-time pimp.

Getting back to Lowery I think he can become a good S and he can alternate with Smith (once he learns the nex position) because Smith is more of a kick ass S while Lowery can develop in being more of an INT machine S...
