I actually remember reading somewhere that he showed a bunch of Jets up in a dunk contest a couple months back...that was obviously before Braylon Edwards was here though, he is a fucking freak.

Mays doesn't hit hard? Are you sure about that?

Rhodes has 42 tackles and 5 passes deflected.

Eric Smith has 27 tackles, 4 passes deflected and an INT and he hardly ever sees the field.

I mentioned this in another thread too, but Rex should start Smith over Rhodes. If nothing else, hopefully it'll light a fire under Rhodes. If not, well, I honestly can't see Smith playing any worse than Rhodes is now. Smith can be a bonehead but at least he doesn't play like a damn fairy.

To address the OP's point though, we only have a few picks in this upcoming draft and we need to draft a guard and DL/OLBs. I don't see safety as a priority for us.

0 Sacks (and he blitzes at least as often as any other DB), 0 FF, 0 FR, 0 INT. As mentioned above, the stat sheets and my game memory are in synch here. If anyone can name a positive, IMPACT play KR has made this season please fill me in. It's very possible I missed a play while in the bathroom or while frantically trying to get a frozen game stream back up, but I've seen 90% of the snaps and can't remember a single one.

If the Jets somehow drafted Eric Berry, I would probably blow my load.

I don't give a shit about the defensive line if Eric Berry is available. He's the best safety I've seen since Eddie Reed and Sean Taylor.

Yes agreed, I don't care how good our safeties are you don't pass up a talent like Berry, that's why BPA is always the best way to go.

I will really feel sorry for him if he has to go play in Cleveland...

Don't buy the hype. Have you seen Mays on the field? He's built like a basketball player, I'll be surprised if he even ends up playing safety in the NFL. Darnell Bing was a similar player in the same system, but ten pounds lighter, and today hes a linebacker. I don't know that he projects as a linebacker necessarily, but if anything, maybe hes a strong safety like Roy Williams when people liked him, a safety who doesn't hardly come out of the box. He's too heavy on his feet to play deep against NFL talent.

Beats me as to where any criticism of Leonhard would be coming from by the way, he's one of our most consistent and productive defensive players. To suggest he's too physically limited to be a starter is ridiculous, as long as you're not matching him up one-on-one on 6-6 TEs, he's got all the range and ballskills you could ever ask for, and by all accounts he's one of the smartest guys on the field. Rhodes has had a disappointing year, but I don't think we're even close to the point of putting him on the bench.

If you want to talk draft picks, gotta talk linemen. Defensive and offensive. Offensively, Moore is average, Faneca is elderly and Mangold's contract is up soon, so we need some talented depth up there. Defensively, Jenkins and Ellis are old men playing like young men, but they're still old men, I like Devito quite a bit but you can never have too much depth in the trenches. Beyond that, if we were to end up with a fairly high pick, I wouldn't mind seeing them trade down. I don't see any clear holes on this roster, but we've traded enough picks away recently that quantity youth might be better than quality this time.

Yuor completely mistaken. Leonhard has been a play maker in this defense. Rhodes has been almost invisable at times. I often notice him coming off of coverage and the throw coming to his man right afterwards. If we draft a Safty its because Rhodes is not playing up to his abilitys and has nothing to do with Leonhard's play.

Alright, I guess I am wrong about Leonard. Evaluating safeties isn't really my strong point. I can admit I'm wrong.

i used to like rhodes but now he just seems more interested in modeling and twittering. he seems way to distracted, i'd love to see someone with more passion at safety

Jim Leonhard has consistently been our best safety. He should be wearing the green dot, BTW; he's the smartest player on the defense.

Kerry Rhodes hasn't made an impact play this season. Not one. Don't be afraid to commit to this one folks: he's not playing like an average safety- he's playing like a liability. Teddy Ginn? That was Kerry's assignment. Marcedes? Kerry's assignment. The other tight ends who have been converting on us? Kerry's.

Personally, I'd freak if we got Berry- not gonna happen. I don't want Taylor Mays. Regardless, unless Rex can find a way to effectively motivate Rhodes this season (and I really, really hope he can) we have to let him go. Absolutely have to. Fashionista wide receiver? That's fine, but their can't be a soft guy in Rex's defense. Send him to the Giants for their first rounder.

Well, not to be Mr. Negative, but if we don't win another game we could have our choice of Mount Cody or Berry.

As much as I like Mount Cody, I would shit if the Jets took him over Eric Berry.

You can purchase 3-4 linemen. You can't buy a Berry, though.

I'm beginning to think that a playmaking safety of OLB are our biggest needs on the team, as it stands now and heading into the offseason. We have good talent throughout the D but we do not have a single playmaker on the defensive side of the ball and that needs to be addressed.

I do think we need to address the Dline, especially a capable replacement for Jenkins but I'm not sure yet if it is the huge immediate need that people make it out to be. Devito is doing a great job and I would like to see more of RoPo, who seems to do well every time he is on the field.

This D has a dire need for playmakers and is IMO what is missing from making this a dominant unit.

I hope we "purchase" about 3 or 4 defensive linemen in the off-season.

Eric Berry is a once in a decade talent at safety. I'm not getting my hopes up for this kid - he'll be selected in the top five and we don't have enough ammo to move up.

I know that you've already recanted, but just wanted to add that outside of yesterday's game when he was covering a 6'4+ TE, I can't recall one other play when he was burned for a jump ball.
