This play seems to be a perfect example of bad playcall vs bad execution with bad execution being the easy answer. They had the matchup they wanted and Cotch clearly had a step on the DB yet didn't get the results because of a badly thrown underthrow by Sanchez. It didn't exactly kill his confidence either and neither did his next int, in fact he got stronger after them which is a great sign.

If the crowd turns on Sanchez we'll never get him back again. Any game now the crowd is going to start getting really frustrated with what's going on and they're going to latch on to the most obvious example of why the season is not headed for the Super Bowl. If the Jets are stupid enough as an organization to promote Sanchez as that example then we (and Woody Johnson) deserve to watch a lousy third rate team for the next decade.

No he wouldn't. He was gunshy almost from the beginning. He only got obviously gunshy when the sacks started to mount up but he crumbled under pressure early in his career also.

When the Jets were going really strong as a team he was ok, but when things started to hit the skids he was usually the first guy tripping on the steps.

A play-action throw with only 1 read, to a wide-open receiver, is a pretty simple play. Sanchez threw the ball late and underthrew Cotchery. How much more do you want to baby him?

We don't know what he is yet and if he has the vision, timing, athletic ability and toughness he will be a top NFL QB regardless of who is the OC. Rothlisberger might have been just as good with a totally different approach he has huge NFL skills. Sanchez doesn't seem to be bothered in the least by this mistakes, he has shown incredible resiliancy. Your worried about nothing. I understand you hate Shotty and I'm not a huge fan either but I don't think he is holding Sanchez back at all I think he would be doing him more of a favor to throw more on first down early in the game rather than putting him in so many second and third and longs.

And if we baby Sanchez and have three-and-outs on every drive, you don't think the crowd will boo?

his second yr he played half the season and in 85 he had 25 tds and 7 picks ... and was also sacked 62 times.... god only knows how many times he was just creamed.... hits and sacks ruined his career.... he was injured in the second half of 86 and never looked the same... obrien in 85 was good enough for us to make a sb

Sanchez seems to lock on to 1 reciever and force the ball regardless of coverage.....instead of stepping up in the pocket or trying to buy some time to find someone else( which he did ALOT the 1st 3 games). agree?

+1. Stupid, reactionary idiots. I would love to see a valid explanation of how putting in a guy who, despite having four seasons of experience in the offense, could not beat out a rookie for a starting job who has not worked with any of these receivers, backs, or coaches prior to April.

I don't think we'll have three-and-outs on every drive if we commit to running the ball, which is the one thing this team can do well on offense at this point. I think we'll have a lot of three-and-outs if they keep letting a 53% passer throw the ball on first down before he's established that he understands the reads well enough to be able to do that and complete more passes than that.

There's no reason to believe that Sanchez can carry this team this year at this point. That's asking way too much of him. The Jets need to establish a strong running game and work everything else off of that.

They need to STOP USING THE SHOTGUN. Sanchez has a 50.6% completion percentage out of the shotgun and he's got a 50.7 rating from that formation. They need to STOP PASSING OUT OF THE SINGLE BACK FORMATION. Sanchez has a 45.6% completion rate and a 39.3 rating out of the single back formation. He has thrown 8 interceptions out of the shotgun and the single back formation.

In other words when you tell the defense that Sanchez is likely to be throwing the ball they are way ahead of him. That's because he's a rookie and they're supposed to be way ahead of him at this point. Stop asking him to play like he's a vet who understands the game well enough to take it in hand and produce. He's not, he's a rookie.

If he can't deal w/ the crowd he should be in another line of work. He needs to be tough mentally and so far it looks like he is.

There's a difference between dealing with the crowd and having a hostile crowd booing you. There are very few people, let alone young people, who can handle the hostility of a crowd when it is directed at them.

There are two cities where if the fans get on the wrong side of you you'll never get it back. New York City and Philadelphia. If the fans decide that Sanchez is the problem at any point he's basically going to lose most of the upside he has for us at this point. A smart organization would never let it get to that.

I think it is an absurd idea to bench Sanchez for Clemens at this point, however if the Jet organization cannot get over the fantasy that Sanchez is the second coming of Peyton Manning or John Elway then it would be better for us and for him to bench him now before he and the crowd begin to shut doors for good.

There are very few QB's who can come into the NFL as a rookie and throw the ball all over the place and not wash out fairly quickly. Mark Sanchez is not one of those guys. It's pretty obvious at this point that he does not have icewater in his veins. It's pretty obvious that he takes his own errors very seriously to the point of sulking (upset at his own performance) when things go really wrong. It's pretty obvious that he does not have a great deep gun to rely on. Its pretty obvious that the Jet offensive line has some holes in pass protection. It's pretty obvious that the receivers, with the exception of Jerrico Cotchery, have up and down games also.

It's blatantly obvious that Brian Schottenheimer takes none of the above into account in how he calls the games. That's his issue, and we really need it resolved before he takes what could be a wonderful NFL QB and turns him into a guy who failed in NY because he was setup to be something he was not and could not meet those expectations.

One thing sanchez has proven is that he can bounce back from bad plays or bad games. you won't really find a worse performance than the one vs. Buf and he went his next 2 games w/o a TO and gave us good chances to win both games. Yesterday he led us on a great drive to give us the lead late in the game aftyer those 2 earlier INTs.

Again, if he can't deal w/ boos he'll never make it b/c even in good years if he throws bad INTs he'll get booed. Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera get booed. You can never run from that.

You can't just baby the guy, eventually he's going to have to face the boos.

Mark sanchez is having a really good rookie year. people look at the rating and think he hasn't but that poor rating is the direct reflection of 2 bad games. In 7 of 9 games he's played well enough to win. I'll take that from a vet QB let alone a rookie and each week he seems to taking another step. I think he's getting it down mentally, most of his mistakes yesterday were physical that he can easily correct.

Schottenheimer has not had a great year but yesterday he called a great game and he's doing a good job developing a rookie QB who didn't have alot of experience in college.

In the END he drove us down the field for the winning score and the dropped 2 point conversion.

It's stupid to even think of pulling Sanchez.

The defense held them the entire second half and when it came down to the end they didn't have one more in them.

no reason to pull him now.....WE ARE NOT GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS (see schedule)
when you have a rookie quarterback the defense has to step up, if they had it would be a different story
wasted a 1st and 2nd rounder on this guy, might as well give him a chance to play out the year.

Of course we should bench him...he's 4-5 as a rookie. I mean clearly his career is over. I cant believe we wasted our picks on him. We should have kept the picks and started Ratliff or Clemens...with either one of those guy we are 8-1 now...no doubt. Forget that the D sucked ass yesterday and shit the bed in a big spot.

Sanchez is also at fault for the D giving up 260 yards in the 1st half. I mean...he's a first round pick...he should be able to play LB too and stop the run. Plus, he couldnt block that field goal in the final seconds so clearly he's a bust. Lets put him on a bus with Big Vern and cut our losses.
