idea of pennington as Coach is intriquing. Everyone must remember though players don't just walk in the door and become coaches. They need to work, cut tape, etc... just like anyone else who wants to ascend the ladder. Its a main reason why you don't see many "Big Time" players as head coaches anymore. Mike Singletary was big time player but he played 20 years ago.
Not sure pennington willing to put that time in to become a coach.

Yeah, just what I want is a guy who is scared to throw an 8 yard pass 95% of the time tutoring and mentoring our young QB who likes to sling it down the field and actually take a risk here or there.

Hell no. I love Chad, but keep him as far away from Sanchize as possible.

No. I never want that POS near this team again in any capacity.

I think he is being groomed into being a coach down here by Parcells. They have him doing 2 week out scouting/film breakdown here in Miami and is he's still working very closely with Henne. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he was our QB coach next year with a future shot at OC. I could also see him staying in shape just in case we have a disaster and need him step in next year because of injury's.

Yes! Sanchez needs a good mentor that can train with him hands on and the Jets have NO ONE who was a good NFL QB in their time. Nothing better then to learn from someone with a first hand experience with the Jets and being a QB in the NFL. This will tremendously improve Sanchez's game.

No. Pennington would cost WAY TOO MUCH money for a back-up QB. Plus I don't think he'd like to be a back up at this point in his career.

i love pennington and i would want back here in any role other then 1st or 2nd string qb, id love to have him here in a 3rd string/qb coach role. Chad is nothing but class and his work ethic and the way he approaches his job would rub off on Sanchez. Watching Sanchez I really think that a veteran QB on the roster would be a major asset to his development, especially in the mental and leadership aspects

Penny has done his time here....he's used up.

Unless he comes back as a coach of some sort...I don't want him anywhere near our sideline.

I think Pennington would be a fine backup if we got rid of Clemens. That would be ironic, but it makes sense, and it would give Sanchez a veteran to lean on and insurance if Sanchez went down. I don't know what the price would be, but I trust Pennington more than I trust Ainge if Sanchez were to get hurt.

I wouldn't mind Pennington as a back-up at all if the price is right. The only problem is that he seems to get season ending injuries on routine tackles and wouldn't be a good option if Sanchez went down for a season (knock on wood)

That's what I think will happen too... there was a short interview on NFL.com in which he was saying how close he was to Parcells and how pissed off he was at the Jets (as an organization, not the fans... although we must admit many times we haven't been too kind to him).

I understand Chad still has his fans here. But this point should override all that. Fiedler actually was a qb who didn't have Chad's rep for fragility but missed as many games as Chadwick.

In a single game the whole season went down in flames because he could not withstand a hit from the same D that took Chad out for the season.

If Chad were the backup, the Jets would really need to have four Qb's on the roster, assuming they carried one young guy who they really do not want to see go on the field. Chad could be the backup until he suffered a likely career ending injury, then they could go to the real backup.

But of course you don't want to carry four Qb's on the roster.

I also have to wonder if Chad really is going to come back. There is an overall dimunition of physical integrity when the same part of the body suffers trauma after trauma. Do those who see themselves as his fans really want to see him lying on the field again?

You know it would simply be a matter of time, assuming he gets on the field at all.

Pennington needs to retire. Three shoulder operations is enough!

I hear he's working on throwing left-handed so he can keep playing until that shoulder has 3 surgeries.
