I agree that some of Ryans in game decisions are troubling but I can only hope that he will get smarter ad he gets more experienced
Rex is what he has always been; a great DC. He has not grown into a HC yet, nor does he seem to want to. Listening to his post game pressers, he does not sound like a HC. He talks only from a DC perspective. He abdicates all responsibility for the O to Schotty and ST to Westoff. On in-game decisions he acts like an over confident DC instead of a HC. I hope that he grows into the HC position.
Credit for what? Being fluky? KRs are not something you can bank on it was just a pure fluke, otherwise we would be givng them up every week and Ginn would be scoring them every week - you got lucky - end of story.
He is no worse than our idiot coach Sparano, last week he uses a timeout that cost us four points, and this week he goes for two like a dope.
I'm not saying he's horrible just yet, but if the Jets were a well-coached team they'd be 6-2 right now, easy.
Not to mention that Sparano's sideline demeanor is ridiculous. Seriously, I would have a hard time rooting for that guy if he coached my team.
After waking up and shaking up, I've come to settling down my emotions and my brain is telling me that we lost this game because of a rookie fumble deep in our territory and a mixture of Ginn doing the only thing he is capable of, running at light speed, and some blown tackles while he was running at light speed. I don't necessarily agree with the 2PT conversions, but Miami took the lead quickly, obviously and they wanted to keep it a FG game. If you go for the PA you're still 4 behind. What concerned me was how soon they were going for the 2pt. Either way, fuck it, we lost to a better team twice and that's that. You can't tell me they aren't a better team because....they won.
So the Raiders are better then the Eagles with that logic. We dominated them yesterday, tripling their offensive production. It came down to Greene and Teddy. The second return he should've been wrapped up, and the first Feely kicked a bullet right to him.
I can't stand him, but i can't stand Rex either. At least Sparano is quite after we lose, and doesn't come off as a sore loser. They both have been suspect as game managers.
How many times did the Raiders beat the Eagles? When they do it twice, then yes they are the better "team" I hate Miami as much as anyone, but they found a way to not lose it, and win it in both games. Something we couldn't do.
They found a way?? Without TEDDY yesterday they don't find a way to win. Yes we lost both games. We do have the better team, it's blatantly obvious to me. You're entitled to your opinion. Hopefully we beat the Pats when we meet again, so we can declare we are officially better than them.
I will say this...we were in both Miami games right down to the last play.....if Sanchez connects with Keller or Cotch in the end zone in that final minute...obviously, the conversation would be different. I guess my point is...despite the ST gaffes....the Jets didn't mail it in. When a team gives up a Kickoff return for a TD...it's a momentum killer....when they give up TWO in the same quarter....that's a killshot all together. But the Jets kept fighting. I learned something yesterday about this team......the Jets have character. And when this team begins to gel over the next few seasons....that "character" will do wonders for us during a playoff run (just like the Giants did 2 years ago...and the Cards did last year).
You won the game on 3 fluke plays. It's not something to be proud of. Thank your lucky stars and move on.
Hind sight is always 20-20 isn't it. We all think we would make coaches and make way better decisions. The Jets lost the game on special teams plain and simple. It had nothing to do with Rex and his decision making. It had everything to with their inability to make a tackle on kick off returns.
I'm not sure why you say that. Yesterday's loss is squarely on the special teams, but are you saying that Westhoff coaches badly? I don't think anyone thinks that. The Buffalo loss was overwhelmingly because of Sanchez' bad play. New Orleans is a far better team than the Jets. In the first Dolphins loss the Jets defense was completely out-executed by the Dolphins offense, but I do agree that Ryan stuck to the same defensive philosophy too long (he even admitted that); obviously the defensive coaching yesterday was vastly better, which is a good sign. I think the losses have been much more about being out-executed than being outcoached. By the same token, I think you have to give Ryan and the staff some credit for wins over teams that are 5-1 (Pats) and 5-2 (Texans), respectively, against the rest of the league. It does work both ways, after all. As I and others have noted here and in other threads, the complaints about the 2-point conversion attempts are not valid, since they didn't affect the result at all; in fact, going for 2 the second time is the only reasonable decision, since only if it had worked can the Jets kick a FG at the end to go into OT. There have also been some head-scratching play calls on offense, but I don't think it's reasonable to expect perfection. I think that this kind of season is exactly what you get with a rookie QB and a rookie head coach. It seems to me that most of the complaints about Ryan are that some people just don't like his style (the ones about him being fat are just moronic and should be ignored). That's perfectly reasonable, but does his style hurt the team on the field? I don't believe that, and there is nothing in the losses to Buffalo, New Orleans, or yesterday's game that in any way suggests that the team lost because the other team was more "fired up" (you could perhaps make that argument for the first Miami loss). Does his style make the Jets more of a target in the media? Maybe, but Mangini is the polar opposite of Ryan, and that didn't prevent him from being attacked here, and absolutely savaged in Cleveland. The media made fun of Herm at the end also, and he couldn't have been more accommodating to them.
You're not right at all. When your D makes a great play and scores a TD you kick off and your D goes right back out on the field. No offensive production. When your special teams run a kickoff back for a TD your D goes right back out on the field, no offensive production again. When your special teams run another kick back for a TD your D goes right back out on the field again no offensive production, no TOP, no rest for the D. When your rested D that hasn't had to go out on the field all day has their O take the ball down the field for a critical TD including a 3rd and 11 run on 3rd and 10 you're team isn't dominating the game. In the first half we had a little better of the play but we punted 6 times they punted 5 times and had the ball at the end when the clock ran out and the score was 3 all.
yes I'm entitled to the opinion that if a team beats you twice in a single season, then yes they are better. Who cares if it was 2 plays...3 plays.... Let's see 2 returns for a TD. A fumble and recovery for a TD. A TD drive. great, the Jets made a valiant effort and came up short. The Miami D held on the last 4 plays of the game. Remember the sack? Remember the last play with excellent coverage? They won twice, so man up.
ahh shut up! the dolphins were not scoring on the jets defense yesterday. did you watch the game?? the phags had one good drive. 25 of their passing yards were PA bootlegs to the TE the other 25 were screens the wildcat was mega crap. the dolphins were mega crap. don't compare you guys losing to the colts when peyton manning still lit you up for 300 yards passing.
There was no moment during the game when the respective offenses and defenses were out on the field that I felt the Dolphins had anything like the edge in play. Not even close. The Greene fumble was just a stupid error on his part dealing with lack of ball security when he was already wrapped up. Without the two KR TD's the Jets just run away from the Dolphins in this game in the second half. Without the bad series of play calls down by the goal line, one in the first half and one in the second, the Jets control two of the critical sequences in the game. The Jets stopped the Dolphins rushing game cold. They stopped the wildcat cold. They made Henne look like a harried QB just like they had done to Schaub, Brady and Brees earlier in the season. On offense they ran the ball effectively the entire day, until they decided for whatever reason to put the game on Sanchez shoulders down by the goal-line twice and through no real fault of his failed to score a TD in either situation. I've been watching the Jets for a long time and I can smell bad coaching a mile away at this point. Whoever is calling the plays on offense for the Jets this season, and it might not be Schotty for all we know, is doing a crappy job of understanding the game situations and adapting to them on the fly. We always seem out of sync in the key situations and something is always misfiring. We had the blue print for the second half of the Jets season out of the Raiders game and we just somehow lost it at key moments in the game yesterday. BTW, if the Jets go power rushing attack for the rest of the season and squeak into the playoffs Schotty doesn't get anything more than the usual HC interviews at the end of the season. He needs a high powered Jets attack with Sanchez looking really good in it for him to have much chances at getting a HC job next year. If the Jets successfully go smashmouth and grind out the wins it will be Callahan who gets the credit. I don't understand the last sequence of plays at all. Sanchez already had 2 TD's passing and a rushing TD in the second half. He didn't need a confidence booster based on his performance at all at that point. He needed a confidence booster in knowing that he could put the game on the strong backs of the line and Jones and Greene and win that way after he had made his contribution. The play calls at the end of the game looked like Sanchez was making them not the coaching staff. The adults in the room were acting like kids.
Hahaha, right? Jeez people there are no god coaches out there because no one can predict the future or win games with their psychic powers. The point is the even though we feel his calls were horrible since they did not convert and we lost the game, he made those decisions because he felt that was the best way to put his team in the position to WIN!
