EXACTLY! I've been thinking the same thing for weeks. He coaches with arrogance, not logic. In the first Miami meeting when he should have called TOs: his own words "I thought we were going to stop them" The end.
There is no arguing that thus far Rex has proven to be a terrible in-game coach. Terrible. Whether this improves with experience is yet to be determined. Hopefully it will. But so far he appears to be a big fat "rah rah" guy snapping towels at peoples asses in the lockerroom.
Rex has been fine, sure he's made a few questionable decisions but this happens to ALL HCs. Look at the bonheaded 2 pt call by Sparano- that was a million times worse than rex's decision to go for 2. it happens. We have a rookie HC and a rookie QB, have lost 2 key players for the season yer we are 4-4. It's really not that bad.
It was only a matter of time until this fanbase started to attack Ryan. I saw the hints of it a few weeks ago when the fatass type comments started to come out. He has made a few mistakes, but these last three losses are more on the players than the coaches. The coaches can only put you in a position to make plays, then you have to make them when it is your turn. Like Danny Woodhead for example. Or the Shonn Greene fumble. The other team made a play, the Jet players did not.
Ok, the Dolphins dominated the Jets on the 15 special teams plays in the game. The Jets dominated the Dolphins on the other 80. Sound about right? You have to realize that without the two long KR TD's this is a 10 point Jets game at the end of the day, and even that only because a rookie RB fumbled the ball while trying for unnecessary extra yardage in a situation where just going down was called for.
The losing streak is not about Rex Ryan, although he certainly shares some blame for it as the head honcho. The losing streak is on the offensive staff, who have done a horrible job of calling games, and unfortunately now on the special teams also who had performed very well up until they collapsed yesterday. Westhoff, BTW, hates the Fins. I would hate to be in practice with him for the next two weeks until the Pats games. He's going to be angry.
That can't be chalked up to a rookie HC mistake. Every team has guys looking at the replay to see if they should challenge, right? I didn't get to see it again as I couldn't really judge from what I saw during the game, but if it was clearly a fumble, someone should have been yelling at Rex to throw the flag.
More the refs fault than Rex's. The rule should be to always rule it a fumble if there's a possibility and then allow for the reverse after the fact.
No, I go the other way on this one. In a 50/50 play the refs should make the ruling that least effects the game state and then let replay overturn them if it will. A turnover is one of the most disruptive things to the game state. The officials should not call one unless they are sure it has occurred.
They wouldn't have been able to challange. The ruling on the field was he was down by contact. Bull$hit as it is, but nothing Rex could have done.
You got that right ... Sorry, but the "phantom" illegal shift penalty stole a chance for us to tie with a FG
I don't blame Rex at all. Sure he has some growing pains in certain aspects of being a HC. It happens. So... I just think a lot of Jets fans are horrible. This thread pisses me off.. Some of our fans are some of the most ignant people I have ever encountered. Frustrating. Is it that hard to support your team, even when things are bad? It's part of the freaking game, are you serious? We can't all ride a winning streak like that Patsies, that shit rarely happens. Just ask the Titans.
they did show one replay on CBS, and the announcers said they couldnt find the guilty party.... but it was a quick 2 second replay. They never showed it again... IDK I watched the quick replay 3-4 times, and couldnt find it. But I don't claim to be an expert on legal vs. illegal shifts...
Absolutely not. Totally bogus, Both radio & TV announcers were saying there was no illegal shift as far as they could tell. I cannot believe this fan-base is attacking Rex Ryan. He is 8 games deep into his head coaching career and everyone is pissed. Its no wonder the Jets are the laughing stock of the NFL. Every time a coach makes a mistake, the fan-base looks to get his head cut off and bring in someone else. How can this team ever get any stability if we are changing head coaches every few years. And the "fire Schotty" rants are over the top. Maybe he isn't that great or "too smart" for his own good. But whats the alternative - bring in another OC and have our young QB, OLine, & RBs learn yet another new system? Then when that system fails, we can bring in another so Sanchez will never get comfortable with any system and we can label him a bust. Disgusting fellow fan base. RELAX. The season isn't over and you should not have been expecting playoffs this year. JUST ENJOY THE SEASON!
the problem with not ruling a possible fumble a fumble is that it becomes almost impossible to reverse the call if the fumble results in a pile up. i think when a ball comes lose it would be better to go with the fumble and let the replay sort that out. it is much easier to overturn a turnover than it is to overturn a play ruled down by contact.
