rex presser he said that he would NOT be returnig punts, but he would be dressed for the game.puzzling that they could have BE tear it up his first time out uder a week after joining the team, but can't get miller ready in time...a guy they drafted and sent to the pro bowl.a little trickery by rr maybe?
Miller will never be allowed to return punts, he's horrendous at it... he muffs every other one. Miller will return kicks, and then as the season goes he could be incorporated into the DB rotation based on what Ryan thinks he can and can't do.
I don't know if I wanna judge him by his 5 returned punts in 5 yrs, but I wouldn't mind seeing him back there to protect Leonhard from any injury. Our DBs are already banged up. Now JM hasn't done jackshit returning punts, but he hasn't had a chance either. JM is still 25. I think he can be a better cover guy than Coleman and he can still learn a lot. Lets see how RR sees him.
Miller is absolutely horribly terribly bad at returning punts. It's pretty much a guaranteed fumble. You do not want him to "protect" Leonhard from injury. Miller doesn't know squat about Rex's defense and isn't a good DB to begin with. Braylon was working in an offense very similar to Schotty's and has shown pro-bowl ability at WR. Huge difference. I do think Rex may be able to find a role for him in this D eventually as a blitzer with his speed and big hitting ability.
I think in his rookie season they let him return punt and he dropped like 3 in the first 5 weeks or something.
I remember an awful muff he had in 2005 against I think Jacksonville (the game we lost Chad and Fiedler for the season). He's a bad punt returner.
I don't mind him returning kicks but the thought of him playing DB is frightning. He is a walking penalty flag.
I could see him being a situational blitzer from the secondary. His speed, and violent tackling could be a dangerous combination in Rex's scheme on occasion.
great point. I'll spell it out for those who fail to understand... If you are only allowed to return 5 punts in 5 years, and your specialty is kick returning its pretty clear you suck at punt returning. and Miller was stripped of punt return duties in NY because i believe he literally muffed as many punts than he returned! I think he had 5 muffed punts with the Jets alone!
Did everyone forget how fucking horrible Miller was in coverage? Strickland's playing again and Lito is back in practice. Why does half of this board want to see Miller's piece of shit coverage skills back in action?
What violent tackling has Miller ever partaken? I don't recall anything extraordinary about his tackling. And he has no cover skills anymore. He was on the street for a reason. He is a nice kick returner and that's it.
