A bunch of Yankees actually had good stats against Lee coming into this game. A-Rod, Jeter, others. Sorry again, NYJ2K09. Thought you were taking a shot at me for liking the Nationals and Pilots. Lee just concluded one of the greatest World Series performances of all time.
Didn't know that. Lee has been on fire all postseason, though. CG for Lee. Now according to McCarver, he was "exhilerating".
hmmm, my digital converter box just shut off randomly. First time that's happened. At least the game is over.
Might have had a chance but of course Girardi marches out the garbage to try and hold them. Hasn't he figured out yet that Hughes was finished when the regular season ended and what's the deal with Bruney? They brought him back for the series why exactly?
With the amount of pitches he threw, Manuel will definitely go with Blanton in Game 4. Winning the next 3 would be tough but doable.
If the Yankees win games 2 and 3, I'm pretty sure we'll see Lee 3 times in the series. And we can't beat him. The Phillies are the best AL team in the National League. On a side note, not that it's the reason we lost, but it contributed, the home plate ump was consistently inconsistent on balls/strikes. Granted, I've often said that a pitcher who shows control is going to get calls whereas a pitcher who lacks good control won't, but some of the same exact pitches Lee got strikes on CC didn't. The pen is horrid. Like completely useless save for Mo. The lineup is worse though. Apart from Jeter, no one is able to hit consistently. ARod had a good run early, but has gone cold. Everyone else is shitting the bed. Oh, and if anyone recalls how I said I wouldn't mind bringing back Damon and Matsui, forget it. I mean, wtf? Can one of these two asswipes buy a hit? Then of course there's Posada failing at the plate. Cano has become completely useless at the plate. And of course there's wonderful Nick Swisher. Holy shit I want to stick his bat up his ass, twist it sideways, and pull. I don't care how bad Gardner could possibly perform, start Gardner and bench Swisher. Or put Hinkse in. I didn't even bother to finish watching the game. I started nodding off while Hughes was pitching, woke up while Bruney was in, shut off the game, and went to bed. BTW: As I was reading through the thread, I noticed people were attacking Posada for Utley's second homer. That was all CC. He shook off the breaking ball, which he could have thrown 3 times at that point, and wanted to throw the outside fastball, which he left right over the middle. Unacceptable. And stupid.
One game is enough to say he's "gone cold"? I don't think they're bringing Lee back on short rest after 122 pitches last night.
AJ CANNOT give up a 5 run inning tonight. We'll score some runs tonight and even it up. I like the game three match-up
He struck out 3 times last night man. But fine, I'll give you that it's a bit premature. I hope you're right about Lee, but I'd bring him back on short rest. Screw pitch counts. He may have thrown 122, but 90+ of them were easy. He's 3 wins, which means you just need to piece together one more. I'd do it.
Yeah, he struck out three times last night... looked silly doing it, too. But it was against Cliff Lee, who was frikkin' dealing, much as I hate to say it. Lee was ridiculously good last night. Every batter in the lineup (with the exception of Jeter) looked silly last night. I'm not saying they shouldn't do it because they're trying to protect him. I'm thinking they might not do it because he's not likely to be effective coming back on short rest after throwing a lot of pitches in the previous outing. Because it's not just 122 pitches. It's 122 pitches over nine innings, which means nine times up and down, warming up, etc.
Yeah, Lee was freaking phenominal last night. He looked like such a douche on that pop up back to him though. I'm a lot more forgiving of Alex today than I am everyone that follows him in the order anyway. Damnit, nobody can hit. And it's not like this is the beginning of their offensive struggles. From 5 to 9 we've been shaky throughout October. I would be embarassed to be Matsui with Melky getting on more often than me, and Melky hasn't even been "good." Damon has been dismal up top. Jeter and ARod have been the only ones really hitting well. Teixeira has had his moments. Beyond those three though, this team just doesn't seem like the one that made it through 162. A lot of last night was Lee, but the Yankees helped him out a lot by swinging at bad pitches, and letting Lee dictate the pace of the game. I mean, step the hell out of the box and make him wait, damnit. Why are Jeter and ARod the only ones who really seem to understand that? As for Lee, I'd rather take my chances that he might be tired in an extra start, unless they've got a 3 game advantage at the time. If the Yankees tie it up tonight though, I'd definitely be looking at Lee like he could pitch 4 and 7. If the Yankees win both tonight and game 3, I wouldn't even hesitate. Lee would be my game 4 guy.
Pedro has been very good this season for the Phillies, but I have a hard time believing he is good enough to keep the Yankee line-up off balance. runs should be scored tonight. that being said, I don't have that much faith in Burnett against the Phillies line-up in a pretty pressure-filled must win game, so that should keep it close.
I expect a win tonight. I fucking hate Pedro, and I think it's time Daddy gave him a big ole spanking on the grande stage.
