I feel for the guy, even though he probably makes more than 99.999999% of all Jet fans.

I don't know why he didn't take the contract that was offered to him. Was it a bit 'undervalued' -- yeah, a bit. Going by a bunch of peers, you could say it was maybe only 80-90% of what he should have gotten.

But that's the point: why worry about the last 10 or even 20% ? OK, if a team wants to pay you only 1/2 as much as you're worth, maybe you tell them to stuff it. But these players are always playing Russian Roulette and the gun unfortunately went off at Leon's bank account.

Agents are really sleazy. Instead of looking out for their clients and setting them up financially, they're more out to use the player to make contract news and use that to attract more clients. I remember the good old days when a guy like Leigh Steinberg got his players into camp, got them good contracts, and made sure they had plenty of $$$ in safe investments like blue-chip stocks, bonds, CD's, municipal bonds, etc.

    Leon's agent really failed him.

I really hope the jets resign him. If Greene is good then they can move TJ to another team and resign leon.

The deal Leon had on the table was more than fair. Leon had absolutely NO leverage in this deal, and he makes only $500k this season and is a RFA after the year. Alvin Keels is a clown that has no business being a professional agent. He got a good deal for D'Angelo Hall, only because the 'Skins overpay for everyone, and now he's trying to act like he's the best agent in the business.

The offer on the table was more than reasonable. Keels didn't just fail Leon - he failed himself by missing out on hundreds of thousands of dollars, plus his rep took another big hit. Players are going to think twice before hiring a guy who fucked another player out of millions by being a dumbass and pushing the envelope too far.

Not to mention he also was responsible for the Andre Smith fiasco

Agents often fail their players. They are only out for themselves more often that not! I guess Keels was trying to get more $$ to use as a chip to attract new clients. I can hear him now "You know LW was only offered x but by waiting I got him x+"

For Lw's sake I hope there are not any issues along the healing process.

Please RSVP to Alvin Keel's super "exclusive" pool party. So exclusive, that only people that know how to go on youtube can come

We would not get anything of value for TJ, maybe a 6th round pick at best. If next year is uncapped, I think we should keep TJ around. He has been great the last 2 seasons for us.

Leon and his Agent gambled and lost, plain and simple. They gambled that Leon would follow up his incredible 2008 season with an equal or better one in 2009 and then command the same or better contract than the one Sproles got. Fact is, even withouth the injury I'm not sure Leon was making a case for getting that kind of dough this year.

His KO returns have been good not great and he hasn't had as many gamebreaking plays as he did last year.

If last weekends running game can be almost-repeated (youre not gonna get that many yards every time..) every week, Leon may not be an issue.

But on a different note, aren't we glad the team came out on top with that? You never know how these injuries play out with recovery..remember Noodle Arm

Yeah, if Greene and Miller can fill in and be productive, well he wont be seeing anything like what was on the table.
Sorry to say it but your right, most of the time we end up getting burned on those contracts. It just sucks this has to happen to Leon.

How is this caveat emptor? Let the buyer beware?

Yeah I don't mean to be the debbie downer, I really hope he bounces back, but right now im more focused on Greene and Miller whooping ass on a weekly basis. Realistically, Leon might not be back from this. He's been fun to watch, seems to fill in the gap, at least from an entertainment perspective, left by C-Mart, and is actually on my list of jerseys to acquire before January. I just bumped him back in anticipation of next year, however. :(

We've gone over this a billion times and I agree with the general consensus that Keels is a total idiot.

But, that said, he got Leon a more than fair offer and at the end of the day Leon could've signed it if he wanted to. Or he could've hired a more competent representative. He chose to do neither and now he, not Keels, has to deal with the consequences.

Most of us were saying this before he got injured. Then Keels himself came on here and basically told us we were racist for calling him a clown. The guy is a major clown.

Hopefully Leon can fully recover and he dumps this slime ball.

    it could be worse.

tanny could have blinked, given leon $6m+/yr garuanteed, then leon goes down.

so even though we don't have leon, which sucks, we also don't have a huge cap space to worry about.

    good job tanny. good job.
