Things to think about: - Three or four starters (Gaudin being 1 of the 4 alongside CC, Burnett, and Pettitte)? - Cervelli, will he be on the roster? (otherwise, I see Jorge catching every game). - Hinske over Guzman? - Does Bruney get a spot in the bullpen?
-Given that CC didn't have the extra start in the ALCS, I'd rather go with the 3-man rotation, or if we're up 3-0, give the ball to Joba. -I'd carry Cervelli. And as irritated with Posada as I've been, I agree, he should start every single game. -Hinkse way over Guzman. -I'd love to carry Bruney, but then who is out? It's basically a choice between Cervelli or Bruney I guess. Personally, given that Gaudin never made it into a game, I'd flip Gaudin for Bruney. I know people are down on Bruney, but I still think he has the stuff to be successful, and at the end of the season he had it back.
If you put Bruney in place of Gaudin, you have no real long man (although, I guess Aceves might be good for 2-3 innings, and in the World series, you might have another of your starters come in on a throw day), and no potential fourth starter. I doubt they feel Joba is stretched out enough - never mind capable enough at this point - to start a game.
I hear you, but I stand on the front of "Well, Gaudin took up a roster spot in the ALCS." You can carry Bruney and have that extra arm you know you'll use. Aceves is going to be a long man either way. I'd rather have the option of a big out in the 8th than the 14th. Joba's probably not prepared for a start right now, but like I said, I'd rather go with a 3-man rotation anyway. I'd only use a 4th starter if we have a 3-0 advantage, in which case, I'd be willing to throw Joba to the wolves. Obviously the question would be whether he's stretched out enough, but that can be worked with if they're up 3 games.

Apparently the Yankees are swapping Guzman and Cervelli for Hinske and Bruney. I still hope that Bruney never gets into a game, but I'm happy about this move because it all but guarantees that Jose Molina won't be starting a World Series game.
All of those pinch runners in the ALCS came back to hurt us. We'd have Gardner and Guzman batting in the middle of our order in the later innings, and half the time they'd be a non-factor on the bases due to the vast amount of DP's we hit into. I like the Hinske Bruney substitution. Then we can bring in Matsui to bat for the pitcher once, and hinske once.

Love it. While I like Cervelli, and would like to see him with the team, I'd rather have Hinske on the bench and Bruney in the pen. Plus, this allows us to keep Gaudin. I guess Gaudin will start game 4 then. I'm okay with that. I expect to see Bruney in games. He was way up and way down this year, but when he's on, he's near unhittable. That's how he ended the season, and from what I've read, he's continued to work throughout the postseason staying ready if called upon. (He was actually with the team in the ALCS, but in Tampa for the ALDS.) Joba, Hughes, Bruney, Mo. With some Marte and Coke mixed in, and Robertson if anyone has trouble. If these guys pitch like we've come to expect apart from the last couple weeks, that pen is going to be nasty. That's going to matter more from games 3-5. Hinske makes double the impact. First he's a legit bat off the bench. Second, by leaving off Cervelli, as you said, we prevent Molina from starting (and probably coming in at all.) The rain is supposedly going to die down around 6. We should get to see this series start tonight! Let's go Yankees!
I think that Robertson should 100% by ahead of Bruney in the pecking order. In fact, I think that Robertson should be ahead of Joba as well--he's been absolutely lights out since the second half of the season and his curveball will be a critical weapon in neutralizing the Phillies' big lefty bats. Now that we've arrived at the big day, I feel ready to make a prediction: the Yankees will win the first 2 at home, the Phillies will defend their homefield well, and then Andy Pettitte will slam the door at home. Yankees in 6 close games.
I agree and disagree. Robertson is the guy I'm most torn on. He's the most valuable guy in the pen not named Rivera right now. If the game is tied, it's a no-brainer, you bring him in. If we have a lead though, especially by 2 or more, I'd probably hold him back unless it's the 8th.
I like the roster moves. Added power for CB Park games. They say Game 1 will get in with the weather, but it looks dismal out there today. This weekend is New York-Philadelphia. Yankees-Phillies, Giants-Eagles and Knicks-Sixers. Does anyone know if the Knicks are still in the NBA?

pitching is better in the NL, so if they are potent against better pitching, how else can you expect to project that other than to say it should be equally well against AL pitching. of course, that ignores the fact that the Yankees throw out much better pitchers than a lot of teams, but then league comparison becomes irrelevant.
