Danny is more of a Leon Washington type, while Greene is more like Jones in his build and style. A key advantage to having Washington was his use as an out on passing plays, especially third down. He's a guy who can catch a 3 or 4 yard pass and maybe break a tackle or two for a first down, gain positive yards on most screen passes, etc. We don't know what Greene's hands are like, and Jones is a serviceable receiver, but his routes will rarely ever stretch beyond 5 yards. Neither of these guys have the foot speed Leon has, allowing then to catch the ball with the back to the defense, turn around, make moves, and run forward. We know Woodhead's pretty quick and he showed it on his 3 carries on Sunday as well as a few times in the preseason. He may not have the breakaway speed that Washington has, but he is a closer replacement in size and style than Greene is.
I think they probably worked out a new uniform # for him already. Especially since Smith and Cotchery should be back this week. Furthermore, Wallace Wright kinda supplanted himself in that #5 spot with last weeks performance.
I can see this happening, We only have 3 active RBs, not counting Woodhead, so letting him take a few snaps at HB would help keep Jones and Greene fresh, and hopefully we'll see the split that the Ravens run (1/3,1/3,1/3) between the three.
I think he'll get snaps at RB if Greene or Jones goes down, and he might get garbage time like he did against Oakland, but in the meantime, he's a less talented Shonn Greene, and Greene could barely get the ball when the two guys ahead of him were healthy.
He'll be the third RB probably, which means he will rarely get the ball. However, he does have the skill set to turn into a decent third down back.
Woodhead cannot change his number again. He will be wearing 83 for the remainder of the season. However, Rex did say that he will be doing some of the things they asked Leon to do
I Think so, He's originally a RB and he has more of Leons game then anyone else on our roster and T.J. and Greene have a similar style but Greene is more of a bruiser back who can run guys over and T.J. is kind of in between considering he goes down rather easily for a guy with his build.
I believe he will. I think he's a poor man's leon and he will be more invovled in the O. he'll the few snaps that Greene was getting before the leon injury.
I'd like to have a look see at Woodhead in a KO and punt return role. Nice to have a kid like DW around. Sure glad we didn't lose him when he went to the PS now more than ever.
I'd sure hope we see him get a few snaps at RB. Working him out at receiver while he was on the PS gives him more versatility. I doubt he plays much of a role going forward, but it's good to have the depth. If for no other reason, I'd like to see if he can handle #3 duties if we lose Jones next season.
I have always thought so too. I don't know if it was just the camera angle they were using yesterday or what, but Greene looked freakin' fast for a "bruiser" back. I guess in football years there's a very big different between 24 and 31.
Funniest was Greg Gum-ball saying now #83 is at HB, the Jets have run at will and now they're putting wide receivers at runnig back...duh...he's really a running back, stupid!
Dunder moment from Gregg there. I actually think Danny-boy is more of a threat lined up as a WR. We all know that Schotty loves to run the reverse / end around and Seminole, DW would be pretty good in that area I think
Agreed 100% ... Greene looked very "quick" for a bruiser type back, I think he will be more than adeqate as a replacement for LW ...
