I like Leon Washington. He is a good player. But now that we are seeing more of him do you think he was worth the extra money he was asking? He has been mostly average to me this year. I haven't seen him break anything big and now with the increased load we see that he is hurt. I have to say that I think Tanny played this one correctly by not paying him. Leon is starting to remind me a lot of Lamont. Played huge in limited action but was not the same player when he took the daily load.

He's definitely slowed down a step this year. Whether that's a result of the way he's been used or just the fact that 27 is a milestone year for reflexes is unclear. The thing I most measure his explosiveness by is the kickoff returns and he has not broken a long one in awhile.

My guess is that he's still worth the contract. I think he's likely to remain a potentially game-breaking player for several more years and that he's going to come back from the injury hungry. The Jets best move at the moment is probably to tender him at the highest possible compensation and let him play for his contract next year.

The difference (pre injury of course0 is that Lamont thought he was a No1 back. The question with Leon is -- would you pay a "change of pace" back that sort of money.

Can Shonn Greene catch our of the backfield?

Hes really not a change of pace like Leon though.

    yes he's worth it

next year I hope to see Greene be the starter in the Thomas Jones role except Greene will literally wear down the defense with his physical running. Then Leon will come in and finish them off.

He is worth 6M? I don't think so. TJ has broken more runs than Leon. Leon is not an every down back. He is a change of pace and a kick returner. He is a good player in the right role. But he can't handle the load as evidenced by his performance and injury this year. He is a 3-4M/yr guy, TOPS.

He had the most all purpose yards last year in the league, Yes he's worth it.

He is a ACE kick returner and his yardage is down simply due to the fact the Jets defense is letting up enough scores.

The holes Greene hi yesterday LW would've done the same exact thing.

I wouldn't mind 3-5 mill a year. With TJ aging our future RB duo is LW and Shonn Greene.

He's not worth what his clown agent was demanding but we should definitely try and keep him for a reasonable price.

no one's asking him to carry the load

never said he's a 6 m dollar player either. after this injury he's not getting that from anyone so I see him returning to the Jets.

    +1

I believe this will be the approach the Jets will take with Leon. Provided the injury isn't career-threatening.

Although If Leon is smart...he kicks Keels to the curb before negotiations start up in the offseason.

We're a running franchise always have been, always will be. I like the idea of having three fit backs in New York. Of course he is no Thomas Jones(never gets injured, can carry the ball a million times) but he is fast and big play capable.

We're never going to have a west coast offense....Lets Keep getting big rushing mentality offensive linemen...and hard nose runnning backs.

    Keep Leon, Jones, and Greene!

The question is if your a Future Jet in Leon's situation do you play or sit out and get your Money? Leon could have gotten way more than what he is now if he had held out. I wonder what he was thinking while he was on the ground. I wonder what Revis or Edwards will be thinking when it is their time to renegotiate.

Anybody in the NFL always has that question on the back of their minds: do I take the money that's offered, which is usually less than peak market value, or do I risk an injury that leaves nothing on the table?

Leon picked and got one of the two results that is likely to happen. It's the lower percentage result but it also happens.

I think any player makes his decision and then lives with it. Cotchery took a safe contract a couple of years ago and he got his money. Leon chose not to and he now has a big question hanging over him. They both made the right decision. Leon just got unlucky with his.

This is true but I just wonder how it will pan our for our future free agents since Tanny and Co like to take tough stances when it comes to this. Revis is the one that worries me the most since he held out in his Rookie Year.

All of this is coming out because he got his leg broken? I think this type of thinking is not right. I understand Leon wants to get paid a good amount, but at the same let's hope he can recover from this and be the same old leon we all know and love.

He is a valueable player and till they find someone else to replace Leon & no I'm not saying Green is that guy. I was hoping for a Green-Washington tandem for next year. Still Leon is valueable till he shows he has fully recovered from his broken leg.

I have had this post in mind for a while and it has less to do with his broken leg than his average performance thus far. He is getting an increased load this year and he is not responding well. The broken leg is the period at the end of the sentence.

agree with WSW. he is one of those players that with the ball in hand, becomes very dangerous. how many teams would love to have him return kicks? plus he's a very dangerous scat back. he should have taken the offer given. c'est la vie. hopefully he has a speedy recovery.
