That's like saying it's my fault my accountant fucked up on my taxes or it's your fault your mechanic fucked up your car. 99% of athletes didn't take courses in contractual law, so representing themselves is probably not in their best interest. Not happening. The new magic number is $2M per.
Jones eluded to the contract situation in his presser. Saying that this is the reason players want to sign long term deals and not because they're being selfish. Jones sounded shaken over the injury to Leon. Saying he kept thinking about him throughout the game. I've really got a new respect for TJ and for Leon. I understand they'd be fined for holding out but they never let the contract situation become a disruption.
He'll get a deal, hopefully the Jets keep the deal they gave him, this injury isn't career ending, just has to comeback hard.
That's foolish. The 2009 salary cap is 127 million. That salary implies that Leon Washington is a below average value player, relative to an entire 53 man roster. I'd be very surprised if he made less than 4 million, short or long term.
Exactly. This lowers Leon's asking price, but he wanted $6 million a year. His value has gone down, probably into the $3-5 million range with incentives, but he's not getting $2 million a year unless there are serious questions about his ability to come back. And even then, I don't think he'd take that deal.
The agents job is to get the player the best deal possible, the player is responsible for taking a deal if he thinks it's a fair deal. if leon never gets that deal this is on him more than his agent. The accountant example maybe but not the mechanic. You should know enough about your taxes to know if your accountant is doing something against the law. The player controls his situation NOT the agent. Many players sit back and allow the agent to control things but that's their fault not the agent. The agent didn't tie leon up and keep him from accepting the deal.
Because, 1) It's not his fault his agent is a douche 2) It's a broken leg - Players come back from that - as long as he's rehabbing ok 3) LW is a team leader - If the team plays hardball here, it's a bad precedent and every player will be ticked off.
As long as he makes a full recovery he'll get the same money he was going to get before the injury. It was a freak injury and he's a durable, valuable player.
I feel terrible for Leon, he's a true professional and he seems like a really good guy from his interviews. But in the end, Leon took a pretty big gamble and lost big. Maybe he was getting bad advice, but in the end, he's responsible for choosing people to represent him, and as much of a turd as Alvin Keels is, Leon hired the turd.
Yeah, I'm glad they didn't zoom in according to this quote- "As soon as I saw it I knew it was over," Woody said. "You never want to see anything like that. It was an inside zone [play], and his foot was on the ground and Tommy Kelly hit it. I could just see it crunch. I've never seen anything like that. The bone broke the skin and I saw blood just squirting. I knew right then.'' I would've threw up considering the whiskey and my man love for him, lol
Leon will probably get something close to the last offer the Jets laid on the table. Chances are, it will be back-loaded and incentive-heavy. It's not like this was a knee injury, so he should be fine, but the Jets will know look to protect themselves from making a bad investment.
I love Leon but you can't blame his agent. Only Leon is responsible for Leon's decisions. The Jets had 10 Million guaranteed on the table. You sign the freaking thing, then you pull a Coles later on if you have to, if you think you're worth more or your play far exceeds your current contract or whatever. But for now, you sign the contract and at least have that assurance. Leon came from nothing. He grew up in the shadows of the Jacksonville stadium and for a while dropped out of high school and was going nowhere. A PAL police officer was cruising around the streets looking to keep kids off the streets and needed a RB for his team and talked Leon into joining his PAL team. Then he talked Leon into going back to high school and the rest is history. For Leon to not have signed that 10 Million guaranteed is unconscionable. If it was Keels who advised him to hold out, then he should be shot, but ultimately, Leon was foolish to not sign that deal and get it done, at least for now.
All the reports I've seen on tv are saying the exact same thing. "The deal he had on the table is beyond gone." I've heard people say as low as $1.5 and as high as $3.
They said on post game live the offer on the table was 4.5. I wish he took that deal when he had the chance.
Breaking a bone is usually a much better prognosis than a severe ankle or cartilege/ligament injury and generally requires less healing time. That's generally speaking, of course. The fact that he had to have immediate surgery tells me this is more than a simple fracture. It's more likely a compound fracture (multiple breaks) or one that pierced the skin or splintered the bone. He's got till July to get it healed up though, which ought to be plenty of time.
This is still one of the dumbest quotes I've ever seen on here. If seeing young black men making tons of money angered us why would we be football fans in the first place? Regarding Leon, I feel horrible for him, it killed the enjoyment of the rest of the game, as good as it was. I hope he can make a full recovery for his own sake and for us Jet fans.
