As awesome as he is, we can't use a draft pick on a receiver. We've already giving up two 2010 picks for Braylon Edwards, who's a proven receiver in this league.
I wouldn't mind using our latest pick on a WR... if Woodhead doesn't work as a slot WR. Hopefully though he'll be serviceable at least. as for the D-lineman I don't know most of the players mentioned (I only know the most famous college players) but I hope we get at least 2, a NT and a DE. With (and of course I'm speculating here) Jenkins, Pouha, the draft pick at NT and the other draft pick, DeVito, Pitoitua and one between Ellis and Douglas I'd be pretty happy with our D-line. Who would you keep between Ellis and Douglas? I'd prefer Douglas... lower salary and I think, right now, the better player (had less injuries than Ellis)
I understand the importance of the NT position in the 3-4 defense. I'm not at all trying to minimize it. But the idea that we should use our 1st round pick on Mount Cody just doesnt make sense. We are in DESPERATE need of a young solid strong 3-4 DE -- that HAS to be our top priority. On 2nd thought, we actually need a couple of them. The only good reason I could think of to use our 1st round pick on an NT would have to be in case Kris Jenkins retires. Think about it, - you draft Cody and then he splits the snaps w/Jenkins. As much as it makes sense from the concept of resting our NT in a rotation, it would just be a waste of resources. I'm on record for trading down to pick up some extra picks --- unless we had the chance to draft Carlos Dunlap ---- I'm not trading down if he's available when our # comes up. We need 3-4 DEs and we need them badly. Trading down in the 1st round to pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd rounder would be perfect. 2 DEs in the 3-4 & then a NT & I'd be happy as a clam.
wewantsapp, rest assured, if the Jets were to draft Cody, he would see a significant amount of time his rookie season lined up right next to Kris Jenkins. He would also of course be out there when we take Kris off, but with a coach like Rex he's going to use all of his weapons while he has them. Don't be scared off by the thought of Cody or Jenkins playing end, I would almost rather have an end with that kind of size than playing with guys at the traditional 34 end size. Cody would fill two needs. First, he'd be the NT of the future, which is now more important than ever. Second, he'd be a great addition to the immediate rotation and overall depth, as well as providing Rex with a look to the D-line that could be very intimidating.
Ndamukong Suh. That is one of the best names I have ever seen. His first name is like a combination of Nnamdi (Asomugha) and King Kong. Kong Suh. What a friggin sweet name.
That's fucking awesome. Nice find. If the Jets end up sucking, I'd love to see Suh or Dunlap become a Jet. Slim chances though... Terrence Cody has to be the guy if we end up in the middle of the first.
^ its gotta be a foregone conclusion. Jenkins has had two ACL surgeries and is on the wrong side of 30. I'd almost trade Jenkins for a 3rd in the offseason if Cody is guaranteed to be there at 15-18. It wouldn't be a popular move, but it may end up working out. I'd like to leave the 3rd WR spot for a FA acquisition. NT, DE, RT, OG, CB thats all that the draft needs to address. FA can fill in the depth holes, but the 1st and 2nd/3rd has to be on the DL. They aren't young anymore and are now expendable. its time to say goodbye to Ellis, Douglas was a quick fill, Jenkins is now on the clock with his knees. its on the verge of neglect.
Why a guard? We can't get rid of Faneca until 2011, Moore is solid, we drafted Slauson so cut him some slack (is that a way to say give him so confidence?) and Turner is a versatile OL. I agree with the other needs though... I hope a slot WR comes to us in rd6 or 7... many teams find good recievers in the late rounds.
ive been watching Mount Cody for some time(same with the rest of the country).........id be extatic if we got him. and hes not in the mold of a 3-4 DE but if you place him there next to Jenkins theres no way in hell a team stops both of them. plus we need someone to anchor the front moving forward. one of the better DL ive seen in a decent amount of time. i know hes probably the most high profile DL outside of Dunlap (prolly a top 10 lock if not top 15 for damn good reason) but im completely sold on him.
slauson is a question mark because he is a late round pick. if you are picked after round 5 the chances of becoming a starter for a long time are extremely low. i'd rather hedge the bets then be stuck with nothing if Faneca goes down or is too damn old to do the job anymore.
I guess I have to come to terms with the fact that guys like Wilfork and Ngata do not grow off of trees. None the less I'm liking Terrance Cody more and more
considering the amount of success ngata's had with baltimore and the havoc he wreaked while under ryan in baltimore, i feel rex may be a bit more inclined in drafting a guy similar to ngata, one who can rotate in and play both 34 end and NT. either way, having mount cody obviously wouldn't be so bad though....
I'm going to be very disapointed if we fail to sign Braylon to a new contract over the offseason. It would have been really nice to have those 3rd and 5th round picks back with the talent this draft has. I guess it will be worth it in the long run to have a very dangerous receiver for this team and the perfect compliement to J-co. Thanks for adding those draft round estimations Mr.E. These lists are great for someone like me who doesn't follow college football that much.
Mount Cody is certainly intriguing but he scares the hell out of me. He is the ultimate boom or bust prospect and I really hate drafting those kind of guys in the first round. I would probably be willing to take the chance on Cody because I do believe that Jenkins career as we know it is over and a NT is now our biggest need. I'd love to come out of the first two rounds with a NT and DE that can come in and make an impact right away.
I dont think Cody is a 1st round player somewhere in the top of the 2nd if he someone doesnt take him earlier then expected. I mean he's not Haloti Ngata , in the sense that he's not a great pass rusher and would be limited if he were in the end spot. Dont get me wrong im still in favor of drafting him but im not as high on him as others, since his one-dimensional.
Cody is the best defensive tackle in the SEC (the best conference in college football). He's definitely worth a mid first round pick. What would you call Vince Wilfork?
I don't care about much else in this draft other than reloading our D line. I think we can squeeze one more year out of our O line. This is the year of the 3-4 defensive linemen and we have to make the most of it. First two rounds have to be some combination of NT and DE. Actually, a NT and two DE's would be IDEAL (hoping and praying Tanny finds a way to pick up a couple extra selections). I also wouldn't be totally against taking a CB if somebody crashed into our lap in the 3rd-ish round (again hoping that Tanny finds us something in the 3rd round). I'm not 100% sold that Sheppard is a good enough answer opposite Revis going forward, both from a health and a performance standpoint.
