I was on NFL.com when I went to the stats section to find out we are ranked 2nd in the NFL in rushing, behind the dolphins. While this is very good news for our running backs and offensive line, don't you guys think this does not make Sanchez look good? Considering he has the 2nd best rushing offense and he is not preforming well. Play action passes should be working...

I don't take much from that stat. While its great we are #2, we rushed for over 300 yards last week. That tends to pad your stats. I think teams are still stacking the box against us. We had no legit #1 until Edwards got here. While the jury may still be out on Sanchez, I think his numbers improve drastically over the next couple of weeks, as long as Cotchery is healthy. That would give us 2 options to throw to, which will also help the run game.

the numbers are a little skewed. There have only been six games played and we ran for 318 yards in one of them. Having said that, yeah it doesn't make Sanchez look all that competent. (Especially when you consider that he managed to throw 5 picks in the 300 yard rushing game)

They probably would be if the Jets were running play action a lot, but they're not.

When was the last time you saw Sanchez fake a handoff, tuck the ball out of sight and drop back? The Jets just aren't doing much of that, if at all, this season. Schottenheimer apparently is not a big play action guy.

You may say it's bunk because of the criticism of Sanchez, but it's relevant still. I know he is a rookie, but you can see teams look at him as somewhat of a threat to throw a good ball. That was evident in the 300 + yards rushing. We wouldn't get that against anyone if they didn't respect him and the addition of Edwards. I see good things to follow.

I would say that sweet "fake" he nailed...and hit Hartsock with that TD pass in the Titan's game.

    A thing of beauty.

I agree 100% having Cotch back, hopefully this week, will really help. Edwards helps by making opponents take that extra guy out of the box. I EXPECT an improvement in the next few weeks especially with a scaled down playbook. Sanchez will finally realize he doesnt have to force it in, checking down isnt a bad thing. When this kid plays with confidence he is on point. When he starts forcing well.... Im sure you guys have seen what happens

Pennington ran great play action, and I remember Favre running quite a bit last year too. Maybe they envision Sanchez as nothing but a drop back QB?

That was a goal-line play. Everybody uses play action on the goal-line because the ball actually gets run the majority of the time down there.

Schotty puts the team in the shotgun on 2nd and 3 at the 3 yard line.

We don't really have a consistent running game tho. We seem to get all our yardage in a couple of huge plays and then a ton of 1 to 2 yard gains.

And this is absolutely true. Our rush offense this year is Barry Sanders-lite. It puts up good numbers but it also puts the team in a 2nd down hole a lot of the time.

That's a lousy context for a young QB to develop in. A really lousy context.

I say it's "bunk"...because the OP was worried about how Sanchez "looked" because how well our run game is being executed.

And I'm saying...the guy is a rookie...he's not gonna be Peyton Manning in his first year or maybe even his 2nd year....my concern lies with how Sanchez deals with adversity. With his intelligence level and passion for the game...I'm sure this past Sunday was a "learning experience" for him. There's no plausible reason to worry how he's "looking" this season.

I know what it was...but you were asking the last time you saw playaction....and I mentioned the Hartsock TD........it doesn't matter if it was a goaline play....it's still playaction.

I dont think after 6 weeks with a rook QB there is cause for concern.

Having said that, I would like to address an issue which may actually be more appropriate for its own thread. In theory it should set up the play action, but I have noticed something with his play action..and before I get jumped all over for *criticism* of a rookie QB Ill just state that I am thrilled with Sanchez going forward and I understand the growing pains that come along with throwing a kid to the fire.

That being said, his play action is atrocious. He does a half turn quick fake and goes right back to reading the D. Have a look at Pennington and how he runs the PA and then look at Sanchez. Definitely an area for improvement.

Curious to know if anyone else has seen this.

This offensive line needs to pass block much better.Sanchez is hurried 9 out of 10 passes.
I know i'll take heat for saying this but besides the Buffalo game this offensive line has flat out sucked.

I failed to quote BRADWAYSucks on this one. He said we arent running much play action, which I agree with. But we used too. That is what my post was attempting to state. I'm not sure if they moved away from that type of playcalling because of what they envision Sanchez being, or what.

he stinks right now, so what is the point of this, are you just trying to reassure yourself that sanchez stinks right now?
