Wow, so Wilpon hasn't been losing money with Bernie, he's been pocketing the loot. Wish I could find a way to steal $47.8M!

What a terrible, terrible franchise. Mets fans can talk all kinds of garbage about the Yankees spending all their money to win, but their team steals money and loses.

    Such a shame.

For guys like you, I honestly feel bad about how the team is run. For other Mets fans, stuff like this is just delicious.

Anyone who made money off Madoff including Wilpon better be ready to pony-up every cent of it to the trustee.

Now I'm sorry but why this has anything to do with the team I'm not sure. The Yankees, as you pointed out, spend tons and this directly affects the product on the field of the team. The Mets did not steal money, their d-bag owner did, but he's too cheap to actually spend it.

The Mets owner blows... doesn't mean the Mets are thieves. Mets suck.

Don't forget Knicks. Some of us are Knicks fans too.

I had something to say about this, but I'm too depressed to remember what. I hope the Wilpons lose the team though.

The Mets have the 2nd highest payroll in baseball no?

It isn't like they aren't spending.

Are you guys aware how even more slimy this makes the FO look?

By all accounts Omar should have been GONE after the debacle this year. BUT Jeff did not want to be stuck paying him the rest of his salary and so he's a lame duck GM until the end of his contract.

Also, consider the draft this year and the Mets spending like it's a small market team. Maybe the FO knows something the public doesn't, but all the major draftniks -- BA/Heyman/Law -- have absolutely bashed the Mets for spending $1,864,300 for their first 10 picks.

Yet all this would have been somewhat understandable had the Mets actually lost money in the Madoff scheme as many people thought; but to find out the Mets actually came out ahead? Are the Wilpons stupid? Did they think they could hide behind the speculation as an excuse to not spend money on the team?

Maybe Sterling equities is getting bombed, and the source for the Mets' thriftiness. That I could understand. But this seriously is not looking good for them.

Alio, I kind of feel sorry for you. The Yankees are having a great post season and you still find it necessary to take jabs at the Mets. There must be something very wrong in your life.

Now for the facts. Maybe you should go to an Accounting 101 course. The "Mets Limited Partnership" was one of many accounts Wilpon related to the Madoff Ponzi scheme. According to some reports, Fred Wilpon had a "personal" account with Madoff in which he reportedly lost up to 700 million. He has taken the high road and said his personal misfortune will not affect the finances of the New York Mets parent club, and they will remain "one" of the highest payrolls in baseball.

The Wilpons are historic dysfunctions. Sell the team, jackasses. The Wilpons are now 0-8 in bringing a World Series to the New York Mets. It has been 45755789491985191851 days since the Mets last won the World Series.

wow, that is the most dishonest and illogical interpretation of that article possible. all it says is the money was invested, and the money was withdrawn at a profit. if it was withdrawn prior to the scandal, and they didn't know it was just someone else's money covering his supposed earnings, and thus they thought it was earnings, it isn't stealing -- they thought it was earnings. how you could jump from that to they deliberately stole money is just asinine.

That would be incorrect. Did you read the article?

The Mets took those profits. The team not Wilpon.

The Mets are thieves, and the title is correct.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA. Nice. JoeJet tells me to get a life. It's cool though. I don't give a damn. My Yankees are going to the World Series. I'm happy.

I'm just more happy that there's more bad news for such classy Mets fans as yourself.

Heh. My father was a Yankee fan from cradle to grave. He wasn't a douchebag towards Mets fans though. Really, I've never known a Yankees fan that was a douche towards Mets fans. But most Mets fans I've ever known are douches. I've finally had enough, so I'm going to point out every stupid piece of doucherrata from now. Just because it's fun to laugh at losers.

    Dishonest and illogical? :eek:hmy:

The Mets took profits from Madoff's ponzi scheme. Did they come forward and say "Oops, our bad?" Nope. But I guess it's okay for Mets fans to point fingers at guys like ARod, or Giambi, or Pettitte and say "You only admitted it because you got caught!" but it's different for the Mets.

It's cool. I get it. I don't really care. It's just hilarious to me.

What does Arod taking PEDs have to do with the Wilpons taking profits out of an investment? Arod knew he was cheating. As far as we can tell the Wilpons had no idea that Madolf was a crook. They thought that they had upwards of 500mil still in the funds when it went belly up. It was profits from their initial investments but it still must have felt like they lost a lot of money.

Ok, your team will probably win this year. So why don't you just enjoy for what it is instead of trying to insult fans of other teams because you feel empowered by your teams success. It makes Yankee fans seem pretty small if you ask me!

At least we don't fuck over our fans for the money.

I really think this thread is ridiculous; certainly the Wilpons engaged in unethical behavior, but for anyone to assert that the Mets and their owners take part in immoral and/or illegal behavior that the Yankees leadership is unfamiliar with is pretty ridiculous. I mean, George Steinbrenner has actually been CONVICTED of shit.
