The more I think about it, Suh could be a dominant player in Ryan's scheme. Same goes for Marvin Austin.
Suh would be a dominant player in any scheme. Suh would be a dominant player with 10 tackling dummies lined up behind him. I like the lists. I don't know if you intended to have them ranked down the line, but I'm with you with the way most of them are listed. With that happened to Jenkins, the more I want versatility in the defenders the Jets bring in. Guys that can line on the nose and play next to Jenkins in consecutive downs and be equally effective are invaluable, and we NEED to go out and find them. That said (keep in mind, I'm speaking six months ahead), if Terrence Cody's available, they have to grab him. Jenkins is a monster, but, sadly, injuries have made him a never ending question mark.

This looks like a great draft to finally rebuild that aging D-line. Hopefully Tanny doesnt give up anymore quality picks for players he hopes will salvage the season. By the way Mr.E, could you maybe put what round these guys are projected to go in as of now. It would be nice to get an idea of which guys we could pick up with our current draft picks.
Terrence Cody needs to be the focus of the Jets draft strategy, particularly if these season tanks due to Jenkins injury and Sanchez' on the job training. The guy has a Wilfork build. That's rare. -X-
plus he commands double teams on a routine basis. Cody is tailor-made for our defense and would fill our biggest need. He should be on the TOP of Tanny/Rex's draft board.
i'd sacrifice 2011 picks for some of the DL prospects in this draft. If the Jets win 7-8 games, they'll be in a mid teens spot. Cody is there now. I hope his stock doesn't rise come next spring. But i wouldn't be surprised.
speaking of course, months ahead of time, if Cody is on the board at our pick, wouldnt it be wise to get a king's ransom for him in a trade? Pick up more selections as we are so limited, and by trading down still offer us the ability to select guys like, Vince Oghobaase Corey Wootton Jared Odrick Tyson Alualu there is other NT options out there, like a Boo Robinson so i mean essentially which would be more valuable to our defense? just Cody, or a combo of Oghobasse, Wootton and Odrick/Alualu? three young studs in the making on our DL seems my viable than one super stud, but then again, maybe I am over-rating the others or under-rating Cody...
good point. I need to watch more college football to garner a better opinion before I start talking out of my ass anyway. The word on the street is...a dominant 3-4 NT is tough to find.....apparently this kid Cody is one of those NT's. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I wouldn't cry either if the Jets took the versatile Suh.....Electric compared him to Haloti Ngata...and I'm all over a player like Ngata like "flies on shit". :wink: To be quite honest...I'm glad Tanny didn't trade away our picks yesterday for Rogers or some other team's sloppy seconds......we need as many picks as we can get for this draft. In fact, I'm on board with NDMick's logic too...i say we trade some of our 2011 draft picks to acquire more picks in the 2010 draft. With that talent pool...the Jets could take advantage of replenishing their roster at an opportune time.
Right now, it's tough to guess where some of these guys will go. I'll edit the original post with some estimations. I'd definitely be willing to give up some 2011 picks now...especially with Braylon Edwards on the roster. 2011 will be the year of WR with AJ Green, Julio Jones, and possibly Dez Bryant available. The middle of the first is where Mount Cody should go. I'm worried that a team like San Diego will pick ahead of the Jets and take him. The Chargers experienced the exact same thing the Jets did - lost their dominant nose tackle. If Cody is gone, we should move back and acquire a later first and an extra second.
i agree for the past 2 years or so we have known this draft would be stacked with 3-4 guys, that said I don't know diddly squat about how college prospects project to the pro's and even though i try and watch as much college football as I can, my brain just doesn't project these guys to the pros as well as guys like Mr. E or Jabba or WW85 do. I mean yes I can clearly tell from watching a guy like Eric Berry that if he stays healthy the guy will be an animal in the NFL, but a not so super talent is tough for me to judge.... your point about the elite NT being that important to a 3-4 is true. I just don't know enough about Cody to know if he is that much of an elite prospect. If he is available late teens, doesn't that in itself speak volumes. If the 3-4 NT is the second most important position in football behind the QB, than if he really is that dominant a prospect shouldnt he be expected to go top 10? ala B.J. Raji a year ago? but back to my original point, even if Cody is that super dominant 3-4 NT, which would be more important to the team? Drafting a solid NT in Boo Robinson (but not all world like Jenkins) and drafting 2 guys who project as studs at the DE position or even a guy like Ogohbasse who could be a Ngata type playing both roles when needed?
You have to look at the teams that play 3-4 in the league and then which of them could use a nose tackle: Pittsburgh - Casey Hampton: possibly San Diego - Jamal Williams: probably New England - Vince Wilfork: no way San Francisco - Aubrayo Franklin: no way Dolphins - Jason Ferguson: possibly Ravens - Kelly Gregg/Brandon McKinney: no way Browns - Shaun Rogers/Ahyba Rubin: possibly Chiefs - Ron Edwards: definitely Broncos - Ron Fields: no way Dallas - Jay Ratliff: no way The Chiefs, the Chargers, the Browns, the Fins, and the Steelers should all either be picking ahead of us or near us. It all depends on how the draft falls.
Completely agree with that. If Cody is gone, we should move back into the early 2nd and take Oghobaase. Then with the late 2nd we get in the trade and our 2nd we can take Wooton and Mike Johnson. Or we could go OL later and take a guy like DeMaryius Thomas.
