Through the years we all have witnessed Marty Shottenheimer teams, monsters during regular season and pretenders in playoffs. His conservative approach cost him many times and a couple misfortunate plays also. One thing I do know though is Marty Shottenheimer would never lose that game Sunday, he would have milked away that 13-3 lead and put it to bed. Watching the game I knew first to 20 wins (turned out to be 16 but you get the point). Rex allows B Shotty to run the offense and the other day the playcallilng was just to damn aggressive in the wind and weather. Other then a random play action or perhaps a bubble screen I don't think the ball should have gone in the air on Sunday. Does B Shotty wake up every Sunday and say I don't want to be compared to my old man. I like alot that shottenheimer does when we play against a cover 2 etc.... or defense similar he calls great game and our offense clicks. However this is about the 3 or 4th game in the last two years that we played in situations where we were running the ball and should have just kept pounding- IE- last year- seattle, San Fran, Denver and this week Buffalo. I think he tries to separate his persono from his old mans to much and would rather risk ball protection then just call a conservative no nonsense game. Its something Rex needs to be aware of and really put the handcuffs on in games like Sunday. It was ugly horrible played game, every team has them once in awhile difference is the playoff teams win them.
Yeah , I'm sure Bshotty stays awake at night trying to figure out ways not to be his father. Haven't we had enough of the conserative play not to lose Horeshit of Herm and Mangini . You win in this league by stomping on an opponent when you have a chance. The days of the 6-3 wins are past unless you happen to reside in Cleveland.
We haven't had a decent OC here since Dan Henning left town. Now we finally have someone who is young has creativity and has a proven track record working with a young QB( Brees) and you guys want to run him out of town. If that makes me a cheerleader so be it
I still think Sanchez is going to be a good QB, but even I was saying after the third INT...for the love of god, don't let him pass. Especially not deep. They should have limited the down field throws a bit considering the wind, and the WR situation.
mehl there is weeks to tuck it away run the ball and move on, at 13-3 everyone knew first to 16 probably wins that game, I like alot of what shotty does also, don't want to run him out of town but sometimes lining up and smashing it in the line is all it takes. Hell we busted two long runs w 8 in the box before buffalo got tired your telling me that we run it 20 times in 2nd 1/2 we don't bust another big one and end the game.
Actually Himerdinger is an excellent OC he just never received the opportunity, and we actually have 2 OC's and if you notice they are implementing some of Callahans plays.
Schotty's MO has been to throw the ball when games are close dating back to last year. maybe being a QB coach has made him love the passing game way more. He just doesn't seem to love the run as much even when its the smarter way to go.
let's take a look at his "proven track record" with young q.b.'s.he did such a good job with drew brees that s.d. used the first pick in the draft to select eli manning and later trade him for phillip rivers.brees has a 1 good year with the chargers and really explodes with saints.rivers really hits his stride about 3 years ago.both become better 1 year removed from being coached by schotty jr.maybe it's a coincidence i'm just saying
I'm not convinced we have a decent OC here now... I'd like one with a bit more consistency. At times when we win Schotty has his moments where he looks like a mad genius... otherwise on the losses he looks like a complete boob. Somewhere in all that "creativity" I think he over thinks the whole game plan.
You can throw out last years offense as reference to anything. That offense last year was dictated by what Favre knew and wanted period.
id rather be over aggressive then mangini-twatlike shit. I just think schotty needs to tone it down a bit now that we know again that sanchez is a rookie and hes gonna play like one. NO reason to panic, its a learning process well take care of it.
He's refering to last years play against the Broncos, which was fumbled and covered by the Jets - however the refs allowed the defender to blast a downed player forcing a fumble. And so what it was a play that resulted in a fumble. Am I standing here pointing out all the 3rd and short runs which failed in our previous regimes.
