Peyton was on a terrible Colts team that didn't have the players we had and were in rebuilding mode, Not the case with us as we have a solid team and made some big trades this season. Dont like the comparison with Peyton Manning of all people and even so Peyton completed 57% of his passes and through a shitload of TD's with 26 and yeah he through alot of interceptions but he was a QB who through downfield, Sanchez doesn't compare to peytons gunslinger mentality in his rookie year, Sanchez is barely completing 50% of his passes 5 TD's 10 INT for a guy who hasn't really been throwing deep and how many yards a game 155 ? Manning threw for almost 4000 yards as a rookie. Sanchez will never be peyton and is 5x worse as a rookie.
I would say that Carson Palmer and Daunte Culpepper are better examples. Culpepper only played in one game as a rookie in a mop-up role. He did not throw a pass. The next year he threw 474. Palmer sat his entire rookie season. Dan Fouts is another Hall of Fame quarterback who had major problems early in his career. He was awful in seasons 1-3. Bill Walsh was brought aboard as offensive coordinator for Fouts' 4th season. He was mediocre in season 4, and only played in four games in his 5th season. It was his 6th season when he finally broke through. After three seasons, Trent Dilfer threw 17 touchdowns and 43 interceptions. Of course, he would later quarterback two different franchises to the postseason. Like Sanchez, Dilfer was a 1st round pick.
Simms suffered shoulder, thumb, and knee injuries in his first five years in the league. In 1983, he battled Scott Brunner for the starting job in training camp. Bill Parcells went with Brunner. Simms won the job in 1984 and had his only 4,000 yard season.
He did get significant action with the Buccaneers in 1986. Just as he was with the L.A. Express, he was mediocre in Tampa Bay. The Bucs drafted Testaverde in 1987 and then traded Young to San Francisco for two draft picks.
This thread is totally irrelevant. Mark Sanchez is not Peyton Manning. It would be like posting Todd Marinovich's rookie year stats and saying Sanchez could end up like that bum based on similar stats. Every QB is different. Only time will tell how good or bad Sanchez is when it's all said and done.
this forum has without a doubt the dumbest fucking crowd i've ever seen on a forum. most of you assholes don't even know how to read.
When I said "benched," I had in mind guys who played for a while as rookies and then got sat down. Culpepper and Palmer didn't really play at all.
David Carr. Ouch. I agree with your win now point, too. The other analogy to Troy Aikman is also inapt for that reason - that Cboy team was in a total rebuilding mode Aikman's first year.
